3 General information before installation Check that the following documents have been supplied with the unit: - Installation Guide (this document) - CTS 600 User Guide - Wiring diagram If you have any questions concerning installation after reading the guide, please contact your nearest Nilan dealer via The unit is designed for installation of supplementary heating elements (electric or water) for additional heating of inlet air. The unit is supplied as standard with filter classes F5 (EU5) for exhaust and F7 (EU7) for inlet air. The unit is operated by a CTS 600 control system, featuring a wide range of functions, e.g. menucontrolled operation, weekly programme, filter monitor with timer, adjustment of fan speed etc. (CTS 600 is described in a separate user guide supplied with the system). For spare parts and other accessories, see page 23. All rights reserved Page 3 of 24
4 Electrical installation Electrical installation/power supply (including safety switch) must be installed by an authorised electrician. Connect the unit according to the wiring diagram supplied. Each ventilation part must be connected to mains electricity before the unit can be started. The unit is supplied with a 1m test cable for the CTS 600 panel. The panel is connected to the CTS 600 control system in the unit by cable type 2 x 2 x 0.25 mm2 twisted pair (max. length 50 m). The CTS 600 panel must be placed in a dry, frost-free place. The integrated sensor prevents further cooling of the building in the event of breakdown of the primary heating supply, by stopping the ventilation unit if the panel sensor goes below its set value. (factory set at 10 C, can be set between 1 C and 20 C). Figure 1: CTS 600 control panel If an electric or water heating element is fitted in the unit, the regulation valve and circulation pump must be connected according to the wiring diagrams supplied. 5 Setting up VPM During set up, future service and maintenance should be taken into account. We recommend a minimum gap in front of/behind the unit according to N/M, O/P - measurements (see Figure 16Figure 16, page 22). The individual nozzles are labelled to simplify setting up. Please note the attached labels. The nozzles and duct system are connected by flexible pipes (flex-pipes, sound-insulated flex-pipes or other type). A non-return damper should be fitted to prevent condensation, frost and heat loss. Dampers can be controlled via the CTS 600 control system. The unit must be installed level for the sake of the condensation outlet. The condensation outlet requires clearance of min. 120 mm under the drain nozzle (see Figure 3, page 6). No additional insulation is required, as the unit is supplied with 50 mm of insulation as standard. If installed outdoors, the unit must be covered (above its top at the least) to prevent water getting in. Although the unit generates practically no noise or vibration, measures should be taken to prevent vibration radiating into the building. To separate the unit from the surface it stands on, we recommend placing it on vibration dampers. Top cover for outdoor installation. 6 Condensation outlet/water lock VPM models are supplied with a 20 mm condensation outlet (PVC, GF fittings). The drain is located under the discharge air nozzle. The unit is supplied with a fitting in front of the drain for protection during transportation. Remove the fitting before fitting the water lock. A water lock is required connected to the condensation outlet. A pipe with a consistent fall of at least 1 cm per metre must connect the condensation nozzle to the nearest drain. Protect the pipe from frost. It may be necessary to fit a heating cable to the condensation outlet to prevent icing, running from the unit to the house climate screen. The electrician is responsible for protecting the condensation outlet from frost. There can be underpressure of up to 500 Pa (= 50 mm water column) in the drain during operation. The height difference in the water lock must therefore be minimum 50 mm. The first bend in the water lock must be at least double the length to ensure flow of condensate water. The condensation outlet must be airtight from the unit to the water lock to ensure unobstructed flow of condensate water away from the unit. If the condensation outlet is not airtight, air will be drawn in and the water will not flow away from the unit. The water lock can dry out and prevent water from draining from the condensation tray. It should therefore be checked regularly, and topped up with water as required. Filling the water in the lock above the minimum requirement will reduce the need for topping up. Ø20mm drain VPM min. 50mm. min. 78mm min. 50mm. Figure 3: Installing water lock Once the water lock is installed, test its function as follows (the unit must be connected to the duct system, and covers in place): Fill the condensation tray with water. Start the unit at highest fan speed with the doors closed. Allow the unit to run for a few minutes. Check there is no water in the condensation tray when the test is concluded. 7 Heating element, water (option) Connection of the heating element must be performed by an authorised plumber. If the unit is installed outdoors, or outside the building's climate screen, protect the installation against frost damage. The heating element is installed inside the unit by the factory if ordered as an option. If retrofitting a water heating element, it must be activated in the CTS 600 control system as described on page 13. Pass the pipe connections to the element through the inlet nozzle side. It is important that the pipes are supported from the element where connected. See figure for recommended mixing loop. Connect, bleed and check the system for leaks. The unit can then be started. Check and clean the dirt trap after flushing the system. The distance between the water circulation system and heating element should not exceed 2 metres to ensure stable adjustment of the element. Avoid installing pipes in the unit such that the fan cannot be removed. 4 3 A 1 AB 2 5 Heating surface Flow B Reguleringsventil: PN = 16 bar Max. diff.
