3 General information Unit installation Read this instruction manual thoroughly before using the unit. This unit complies with low-voltage (EEC/7/) and electromagnetic compatibility (EEC/89/6) directives. The installation must be carried out by a qualified installer. This unit will only work safely and correctly, if installed and tested by qualified personnel. Do not use damaged equipment. In case of a malfunction turn the unit OFF and disconnect the mains supply. The user should not work on any of the internal components, or subject the unit to operating conditions which are not specified in this manual. Serious damage may result and the guarantee would be invalidated. Repair and maintenance work should always be left to the installer. Units are designed for installation with ducts. If this is not the case, the installer must place a protection mesh in the discharge according to the standards in force. Disconnect the electrical mains supply prior to any maintenance operations or prior to handling any internal unit parts. Cleaning and maintenance operations must be carried out by specially trained personnel. Use this unit only for factory approved applications: the unit cannot be used in laundry or steam pressing premises. Be conscious of the room temperature and general comfort, particularly when this unit is used near children, senior or handicapped people. This unit contains rotating equipment (fan). Ensure that this is out of reach for children. All of the manufacturing and packaging materials used for your new appliance are compatible with the environment and can be recycled. Keep this installation manual safe and hand it over to the new owner in case of sale. Check that voltage and frequency of the mains power supply are those required for the unit to be installed; the available power must be adequate to operate any other possible appliances connected to the same line. Check that all current national safety code requirements have been followed for the installation. In particular ensure that a properly sized and connected ground wire is in place. Inspect equipment for damage due to improper transportation or handling: file an immediate claim with the shipping company. To work correctly, the air conditioner must operate only within the temperature indicated in the Operating limits table shown in this manual. If the unit is made to operate beyond the limits cited above, malfunctioning or water leaks may occur. Failure to observe electrical safety codes may cause a fire hazard in case of short circuits. All recommendations concerning unit installation are intended to be as a guideline. The installer should carry out the installation according to the design conditions and should comply with all applicable regulations for air conditioning and refrigeration installations. The manufacturer declines all responsibility in the case of modifications and electrical or water connection errors caused by a failure to observe the instructions shown in this installation manual or in the case of operation in conditions different to those for which the unit was designed. In these cases the guarantee is no longer valid. Choosing the installation site Positions to avoid: Exposed to direct sun. Too close to heat sources. On humid walls or positions with water hazard, e.g. laundry premises. Recommendations: Choose an area free from obstructions which may cause irregular air distribution and/or return. Location should be able to support unit operating weight. Consider using an area where installation is easy. Choose a position that allows for the clearances required (see drawing). Look for a position in the room which assures the best possible air distribution. Install unit in a position where condensate can easily be piped to an appropriate drain. 6 Installation Prior to installation It is advisable to place the unit as close as possible to the installation site before removing it from the packing. Do not put on the packing heavy tools or weights. EGLISH If necessary, a rubber or neoprene sheet can be placed between the ceiling and the unit. IPORTAT: The unit must be perfectly levelled. IPORTAT: Do not lift the unit by the condensate drain discharge pipe, or the connect couplings. Unit installation will be facilitated by using a stacker operating at 15 to 18 mm from the ceiling. Vibration absorbers should be provided throughout the installation to prevent noise from being transmitted. IPORTAT: ake sure that all unit panels are fixed in place before moving. Raise and set the unit down carefully. Unit False ceiling Ceiling Register cover Once all these operations have been completed, the false ceiling to hide unit may be installed, but a removable cover must be included for future maintenance. Grilles of an adequate size should be incorporated in the unit for the return air. Condensate drainage Installation inimum 5% slope Screws-in rod Shoch absorbers Washer ut Insert 8 threaded rods into the celling. Introduce the other end of the rods through the slots of unit suspension brackets. Position the shock absorbers, add washers and screw the nuts down until the unit is correctly suported. All units are provided with an inside condensate drain pan which incorporates a drainage tube outside Ø mm (5) and 5 mm (9,16). A tube for evacuating condensates must therefore be provided. The recommendations below must be followed in all cases: Use galvanized steel, copper or plastic piping. Do not use an ordinary garden hose. Use a material that guarantees perfect water tightness on the drainage pipe. If a rigid material has been used for the drainage, it is necessary to provide some kind of elastic coupling in the drainage line to absorb possible vibrations. The drainage line should always be below the connection itself, and should also slope to facilitate drainage. If ambient temperatures below freezing are expected, the drain tube should be protected against the formation of ice. To do so, a trace heater wire should be installed in the drain connection. This should be independent from the unit power supply, and come into operation before the temperature drops below C. WARIG: o dril holes should be made in the base of the unit, since the drain pan may be perforated. GB - 5
7 Water connections LEGED Water chiller fan coil units Water circulating pump Inertial accumulator Expansion vessel Pressure gauges anual shut-off valves esh filter Pressure ports Thermometers Flow switch Automatic purge Drain Charge valve Flexible coupling ake the heat exchanger water connections with the necessary components, using material which will guarantee that the screwed joints are leakproof. Figure shows a typical water circuit installation in an air conditioning system. For an application with a water circuit, the lollowing recommendations must be taken into considerationt: 1. The water pump should pump into the evaporator, and draw from the installation side.. It is advisable to install shut-off valves to allow isolation of the most important circuit components as well as the chiller itself. These valves (ball, globe and butterfly valves) should produce a minimum loss of charge when they are open.. Provide unit and system drains and vents at the highest system point.. Install purge valves in the highest part of the circuit. 5. Pressure ports and pressure gauges should be installed upstream and downstream of the water pump. 6. Thermometers should be installed in the unit water inlet and outlet. 7. The installation must include a flow switch in a straight horizontal pipe run, with a length of a minimum of 5 times the line diameter before and after the switch. The flow switch must be located in the inlet piping of the refrigerant-water heat exchanger. If this is not possible, the installation must include a protection system, activated when no water circulates in the heat exchanger. It is essential to ensure sufficient water circulation in the heat exchanger. 8. All piping must be adequately insulated. 9. After the installation or after circuit repair the whole installation must be cleaned completely, with special attention to the filters. Water pressure drop Water flow, l/s l/s kpa kpa kpa GB - 6

13 Ductwork IPORTAT: Duct calculation and design must be effected by a qualified technician. The duct dimensions should be determined in accordance with the air flow and with the available static pressure of the unit. It is advisable to follow the below suggestions: Whatever type of duct is used, it should not be made of materials which are flammable, or which give off toxic gases in the event of a fire. The inside surfaces should be smooth, and not contaminate the air which passes through. At the points where the duct joins with the unit, it is advisable to use a flexible connection which absorbs vibration and prevents the transmission of noise inside the ductwork. Bends should be avoided as much as possible near the unit outlet. If unavoidable, they should be as slight as possible, and internal deflectors should be used when the duct is of large dimensions.
