3 Introduction: The Mercury Compact Infrared Dryer is an economical and ideal dryer for any home based business or shop with a limited amount of space or budget. Using a large IR heating panel and an adjustable belt speed, the Compact Dryer gives you the capability of professional, long lasting prints. The Compact Dryer comes with a 20 wide belt capable of handling 72 pieces per hour. With adjustable heat gates the Compact can handle just about any job. Standard Operations Guide: Once the Mercury Compact Dryer is installed, it s time to cure! The belt speed is critical to ensure the quality of the print and to prevent the garments from burning. The surface of the IR element can reach temperatures of 600 f, with a curing temperature of f. The belt speed adjustment will allow most garments to pass safely thru the dryer. The heat gates allows the user to control how much heat is contained or expelled from the dryer. My dryer turns on but the belt isn't spinning. Does the belt turn easily by hand?

If the chain has come off it will need to be put back on, however, there is a reason it has come off. Inspect the sprockets for damage or missing teeth, the sprocket should look like the sprocket in Image 6. If sprocket is good, next check sprocket alignment (Image 7). This will allow for the assembly to fit properly into the arms. Secure the bearing set screws (Image 9). If the bearings are tight, manually align the chain. Loosen the set screws for the sprocket, take a measurement from the inside of the bracket to the chain. Both drive and roller sprocket should be the same (Image 10). Using a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the VDC setting (Image 11), check the voltage going to the belt motor. The motor operates on a 0v - 90v DC scale. Depending on where the speed control is set will determine the voltage reading. Unplug the belt motor, the side of the plug with the white/black wires is the power side (Image 4). Insert the meter s probes into the plug as show in image 12. With the probes inserted take note of the reading on the meter, if it displays a negative reading, swap the probes and take another reading. Image11 Image 12 15

(2 Continued) With the probes inserted into the plug, set the belt speed control at 0, the meter should read zero or close to it. Then turn the belt speed to 100, the meter should now read 90vdc.

If the reading is 0 regardless of speed control setting its now time to open the top of the dryer. There are 4 screws on the top and 2 on either side just above the vent doors, lift off the top of the dryer and set it to the side (Image 13 and 14) Image 13 Image 14 Once the top is removed, the speed control board is now visible. 17 Locate the ceramic resistor on the speed control board (Image 16) Image 16 Resistor Part AJ Once the Resistor is located, remove it. Using a piece of wire or paper clip, jump the two open terminals the resistor came out of (Image 17) Image 17 Using the Digital meter in the VDC setting, repeat the testing seen in images 11 and 12. Start at 0 and move the belt speed control to 100, if the full range of voltage ( 0-90vdc) is reached, the resistor will need to be replaced. If no change is seen in the voltage and the belt still wont turn, either the speed control board or motor will need to be replaced. 17

With the Red probe from the meter, touch the circuit tab on L1, with the black probe touch the L2 (Image

18 To test the Speed Control Board, use a digital Volt/Ohm meter set the dial to the ACV setting (ACV on a non auto-ranging meter). With the Red probe from the meter, touch the circuit tab on L1, with the black probe touch the L2 (Image 18) Image 18 Image 19 L1 L2 If the AC voltage coming into the board is correct (115/230 ACV) but there is no power coming out, the speed control board will need to be replaced. 18

19 3. My Dryer Isn't Heating up Remove the top of the dryer (Image 13 and 14). Locate the Power Switch (Image 20) Image 20 Once the Switch is located, 2 large WHITE wires can be seen connected to the switch (Image 20). Using a digital Volt/Ohm meter set the dial to the ACV setting (ACV on a non auto-ranging meter), turn the dryer on and test the voltage across the switch. The Dryer uses 115v or 230v, to verify check the voltage rating on the fan (Image 22). Image 22 Image 22.1 Fan 115V Part V Fan 220V Part AU 19

20 If voltage reading is normal, the element is bad (Image 23). To verify the element is bad use a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the resistance setting (Omega symbol Ω). With the dryer OFF, locate the terminal block. Check the 2 large WHITE wires leading to the element. For continuity, the meter should have a low reading or produce a beep, if the meter reads zero or doesn t produce a beep, the element will need to be replaced. Next, locate the 4 nuts holding the element in place (Image 25).

21 Image 24 To replace the element, locate the 2 large WHITE wires leading to the element. Disconnect them from the terminal block. Next, locate the 4 nuts holding the element in place (Image 25). Image 8 Once these have been set, ALL adjustments will be made from the motor side of the dryer. Center the belt on the rollers.

22 4. My belt Isn t tracking straight. Loosen the belt (Image 1). Center the belt on the roller. On the end of the dryer without the motor, set the gap on both sides of the belt tensioners so that they are equal (Image 8). Between 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 on each side is ideal. Image 8 Once these have been set, ALL adjustments will be made from the motor side of the dryer. Center the belt on the rollers. Adjust the tensioners to tighten the belt until the belt tracks straight. Do not over tighten the belt, the belt should only be tight enough so it wont slip on the rollers. Grasp the belt on both sides and pull on the belt (Image 26). Once the belt tension is set, turn on the dryer and check to see if its tracking. If the belt tracks to the left, tighten the left side adjuster. If the belt tracks to the right, tighten the right adjuster. Making adjustments in 1/4 turn increments will ensure that you don't over adjust. Image Do I need to vent my dryer? No, however, if the user feels necessary a custom hood can be fabricated to the users liking. Do not vent from the center fan fixture on the dryer. 22
