4 Woodbridge Hotel Campus, N.J. Pump Fundamentals 101 Sept. 6th 2017 Hotel Pennsylvania Campus, N.Y.C. Pump Fundamentals 101 Sept. 7, 2017 This presentation discusses the basic of centrifugal pumps, from developing the pump curve to pump basic components, parallel and series applications, NPSH considerations, open and closed system head, the development of the system curve, etc. Some B&G products are discussed. Who should attend- HVAC and Plumbing design engineers. 1.0 PDH Time: 1.5 hours PS# Take-away: Ability to read and understand all aspects of a pump curve. Understanding of the difference between static, dynamic, and working pressure. Comfortable selection pumps for parallel and series applications, along with a knowledge of what makes for a good and bad selection. Understanding of Net Positive Suction Head requirements and how to design a system to ensure this requirement is covered. Increased knowledge of which style pumps are a good fit for a given application. Woodbridge Hotel Campus, N.J. Piping Pressurization and Air Management in Hydronic Systems 101 Sept Hotel Pennsylvania Campus, N.Y.C. Piping Pressurization and Air Management in Hydronic Systems 101 Sept This presentation differentiates between "air control" and "air elimination" systems, it also provides information on components required to make a close system work properly with a large focus on expansion tank selection and the role of an expansion tank play in proper hydronic water pressure control. Some B&G products are also discussed. Page 3

5 Who should attend - HVAC design engineers 1.0-PDH Time: 1.5 hours P5# Take-away: Be able to identify an air control vs. an air elimination system, the components and understand the operational difference between them. Understanding of what determines the pressure in a system at a given point and how static pressure, dynamic head, system temperature, component selection and location affect the pressure. Become comfortable sizing expansion tanks, relief valves, pressure reducing valves, and understand how these components are all related. Woodbridge Hotel Campus, N.J. Modern Pump Selection 102 Sept Hotel Pennsylvania Campus, N.Y.C. Modern Pump Selection 102 Sept Selecting a centrifugal pump based on optimizing system pumping efficiency is critical for the lowest life cycle pumping costs. Pumping systems can have signifiicant load (flow) variations based on their load profile. Throughout this presentation we will review how a pump that operates at a higher efficiency during part load can significantly decrease pump operating costs. Additionally we will see how implementing a term known as PLEV (Part Load Efficiency Value) from a load profile standpoint makes sense when selecting a pump for a given project with chilled water and or hot water systems. We will wrap up the seminar by discussing and challenging current methods for pump selections when designing today's buildings. Who should attend - HVAC and Plumbing design engineers. 1.0-PDH Time: 1 hour PS# TBD Take-away: Understanding of basic pump affinity laws. Review of pump head loss calculations and system effects on a pump's operation. Greater familiarity with the hydronics portion of ASHRAE Be comfortable with PLEV as a concept and its value when comparing pump selections. Page 4

8 PLUMBING FUNDAMENTALS Woodbridge Hotel Campus, N.J. The Art and Science of Domestic Hot Water Design 101 Oct. 18, 2017 Hotel Pennsylvania Campus, N.Y.C. The Art and Science of Domestic Hot Water Design 101 Oct. 19, 2017 This presentation covers the fundamentals of heat transfer, dissecting each variable, it moves to fixture accounting, occupancy assumptions, fixture schedules, DHW percentages and cold water requirements, fixture units, diversity factors, and high level assumptions. Who should attend: Plumbing engineers PDH-1.0 Time: 1.0 hours PS# Take-away Learn to be comfortable with the basics of heat transfer as it relates to the production of potable hot water. Discover a means of calculating domestic hot water loads that allows the engineer to record all of their assumptions and directly calculate the DHW demand (no more black box methods). Gain greater understanding in what goes into determining diversity factors, assumptions on occupancy and other human factor elements. Compare ASHRAE sizing methods to fixture flow and usage methods of sizing DHW demand. Woodbridge Hotel Campus, N.J. DHW Equipment Selection Oct 18, 2017 Hotel Pennsylvania Campus, N.Y.C. DHW Equipment Selection Oct 19, 2017 This presentation discusses various types of DHW systems including: a) Traditional residential, b) Traditional commercial, c) Instantaneous Point of Use, d & e) Distributed Instantaneous both Inverted Indirect and Indirect Plate HXR, f) Plate HXR piped as traditional indirect. The operation of and advantage/disadvantage of each is reviewed. Who should attend: Plumbing and HVAC design engineers PDH-1.0 Time: 1.5 hours PS# Take-away Get an overview of the different types of DHW equipment that are on the market, and learn the pros and cons of each. Gain an understanding of how the ratio of DHW storage affects the capacity requirements of the companion heater. Compare instantaneous heaters for traditional storage systems. Page 7
