4 ABOUT BPC VENTILATION Due to increased awareness of poor indoor air quality and the effects on our health caused by insulating the walls and ceilings and making our houses more airtight, we started BPC Ventilation. Before heat recovery was widely recognised as a total solution in this country we sourced the world s leading manufacturers and started to supply and install the highest quality systems possible. It became apparent very soon that the industry had a few problems concerning cost of installation and overall quietness and airtightness of systems. To combat this, we looked at what other countries were doing and discovered that a clear majority of systems were being installed with a manifold system consisting of a crushproof pipe to every room. This was providing a quiet and more efficient system with the added benefit of quick installation time. We had found the perfect solution but still had the issue of cost and although the systems were popular with the home builder looking for quality, the overall cost was much more than the conventional rigid duct system. As we grew so did our buying power. Now we believe we can provide the highest quality ventilation solution from world leading companies at the lowest cost. We now work with the world s top ventilation companies in designing, supplying and if required, installing home ventilation solutions to any worldwide location including the UK, Ireland, Europe and as far away as Australia. 5 WHAT IS HEAT RECOVERY? When we started designing and supplying ventilation systems the main reason to have a heat recovery system was to recover the heat normally lost through the conventional bathroom extractor fans and air supply vents built into the windows and walls in every room and a heat recovery system achieves this very well with recovering over 90% of the normally lost heat. But a heat recovery system does so much more and is now more important than most other systems you will be installing into your home! BUILDING CONTROL AND LEGISLATION Over the last decade there has been increasing demand on builders, architects and government legislation to increase the thermal efficiency of our homes making them draught free and well insulated. This in turn has caused poorer air quality which can significantly increase the effects of asthma and other respiratory problems, health problems, condensation, mould, dust mites, unpleasant smells and build up of toxic gases. For health reasons Government legislation now makes it almost compulsory for your new air tight home to have a balanced mechanical ventilation system and a heat recovery ventilation system is the most preferred option. HOW DOES A HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM WORK? A ventilation system with heat recovery (HRV) or (MVHR) is an energy efficient, controlled and balanced ventilation system. It extracts the moist, stale air from all the wet rooms in your house and replaces it with filtered, fresh, recovered warm air to all your habitable rooms and bedrooms without letting the heat escape. Your home is fully ventilated throughout the year with as much as 95% of the normally wasted heat being recovered providing you substantial energy savings. This heat recovery system allows your property to stay air tight with no window vents or bathroom extractors being required, creating a healthier and quieter environment. 5

6 HOW HARD IS IT TO INSTALL? Installing a heat recovery unit is quickly becoming a necessity rather than a lifestyle choice and In recent years heat recovery systems have also become much more targeted towards DIY installs with all products being easy to fit and connect whilst maintaining an efficient and quiet operating system. Don`t worry we also have a large network of installers and can supply a full installation system if required. On completion of the installation the system will require commissioning and we can help you with this or provide an installer local to your area to commission the system. CAN YOU INSTALL A HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM TO AN EXISTING HOUSE? It is possible to install to an existing house, but good planning and design is critical, If your house is a bungalow the installation would be very easy as all ductwork would be in your attic space but if your house has a number of floors we would have to work with you to provide solutions to drop ductwork to the rooms below through service voids like wardrobes and storage rooms. CAN YOU INSTALL IN A PERIOD HOUSE WITH NORMAL LEVELS OF INSULATION? We have installed systems to a lot of period houses and even a castle, you will not be able to achieve the maximum heat recovery rate of 90% but you will achieve almost all the advantages including fresh filtered air and condensation control. 6

23 What is Positive Pressure Ventilation? A positive input pressure ventilation unit (PIV) is a loft or wall mounted unit that pushes fresh filtered air throughout the property to combat condensation via a ceiling mounted diffuser normally fitted in the hallway. The units continually introduce a subtle filtered air supply from the trapped heat and fresh air from your roof void via a ceiling mounted diffuser normally in your hallway and redistributes the heat trapped at ceiling level. 25 What is Mechanical Extract Ventilation? Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV) systems provide continuous ventilation. Centralised mechanical extract systems also known as a Multipoint and Central Extract System draw moisture-laden air from multiple wet rooms of a property, Essentially the concept is to provide simultaneous, low level extraction from kitchens, bathrooms, shower rooms, utility rooms and toilets to a central extract fan typically located in a loft space or hallway cupboard via a system of ductwork and grilles to control humidity levels.. The extracted air is then normally discharged to outside via a single duct and grille/cowl. Passivent Demand Controlled IMEV The Passivent total imev fan is perfect for large residential properties which require individual areas to be monitored and ventilated separately, without the need for occupant involvement. 27 Radial ducting is the latest innovation on ventilation systems and can provide a quieter and more efficient ventilation system compared to rigid ductwork. Radial Ducting is a system of smooth bore pipes which are crushproof, semi flexible with zero air loss. The pipes have an anti-static and antibacterial lining which individually connects each room to a manifold and are available in both circular (75mm or 90mm) and oval (51mmx114mm) fittings. 55 HIDE A HOSE IS NOW AVAILABLE ON OUR CENTRAL VACUUM SYSTEMS The new Hide A Hose. The perfect solution for quick and easy cleaning. Each retractable hose is housed inside the pipe itself, so, by opening the lid of the socket you will pull the end of the hose and it will easily come out. The only thing that we will have to do is connect the handle with the corresponding cleaning accessory and quickly start cleaning in record time. When finished, as easy as disconnecting the handle and by covering the end of the hose with your hand, it will be quickly collected inside the pipe.
