The earth s refreshed by frequent showers. April brings an abundance of new life in our gardens. In March S. Stowell presented a beautiful slide show about Backyard Wildlife Habitat. Our members selected several excellent information sheets and pamphlets from the National Wildlife Federation. The Club gave a donation of $50 to this very active nature conservation organization. Miss Artiste, M. Hines 5 Minute calla lily arrangement, was a delight to the eye. L. Page was the fortunate winner of the white lilies for the Turn in Your Name Badge Drawing. K. 2 April 2004 Point Loma Garden Club Newsletter Page 2 The Prez Sez (continued) Meyer Lemons and J. Please give your checks to S. Nance at the April Bus Tour or mail to her home address: Library Displays Many thanks again for the generous flower donations to the Point Loma Library. April 4th B. Harris April 11th D. Hartman April 18th M. Walsh April 25th K. Walsh May 2nd T. Huston May 9th B. Miller May 16th May 23rd May 30th C. Nogle We still need volunteers for May, please sign up at the May meeting. Sunday hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. D. Norton, Chair Ways and Means May Garden Tour We are including a pull-out page of the 8 garden descriptions so you can encourage your friends to purchase a ticket from you. Our budget goal is to raise $8,000 from the tour. We have sold $1,000 in sponsor advertisements, leaving an additional $7,000 to be raised by ticket sales. This additional sum equates to 700 tickets, so the club really needs each member s help! We will be selling tickets on the bus tour. In order to have a better handle on ticket inventory and to avoid printing additional tickets (you may recall from our previous tour, tickets were signed out to members and never sold or returned) the Way & Means committee has made the following changes: Any tickets signed out to sell will need to be purchased in advance. We hope you will understand why this change is necessary and will pre-plan for the tickets you want to sell. Garden Hostesses S. Dysart is chairing the garden hostesses and will have a sign-up sheet on the bus tour. There are still 29 hostess spots to fill. Please be a part of this event by volunteering to hostess and to make it a huge success for our community. Refreshments M. Cook requests donations of lemons to make fresh lemonade and donations of any fresh baked cookies. Refreshments will be served at the Mueller garden. All donations may be given to her at the May 12th meeting or dropped off at her home. Your club is grateful for your generous donations. Plant Sale We need healthy plants in clean pots that are correctly labeled for our plant sale. We re asking that everyone donate something to make our sale a success. Maybe you have overgrown plants that need dividing, something unusual, or common, whatever you think someone else would like to buy. The plants will be sold at one of the gardens on the tour. Several members have already volunteered to help and if you would like to join us we d love to have you. R. Muir, co chair has volunteered to plant sit or if you need help getting your plants to us please call for pick up. D. Bennett Co Chair

3 April 2004 Point Loma Garden Club Newsletter Page 3 E-Bay Help We have an antique vase from the M. Wood collection valued at $200. Harry Standing Rules The recommended changes of the Standing Rules as listed in the March Newsletter were voted for adoption by the membership. They will be listed as changed in your Yearbook.
