3 CASE STUDY The Huntersville Library Mecklenburg County With a 10 year old roof, this building had numerous problems, some dating back to the time of new construction. When you have a concave convex construction such as this, most of the panels have to be installed in two pieces. This creates a seam, which in turn can create problems. The building shape was not going to change, so we needed to develop a viable long-term solution that would protect the building and take the taxpayer s money into consideration. To eliminate the problems due to the seams, we used a specialty application to make a curved radius panel in one piece, instead of two. Because the building needed to accommodate students, the project was a rush job. By working night and weekends, the library only had to be closed for 3 weeks. The roof is expected to last years.

4 CASE STUDY JT Williams Middle School Charlotte This school project presented a truly unique effort as there were fewer than 10 similar designs in the country. A roof like this creates challenges in manpower and in keeping the building dry. This was especially important as the school recently renovated a beautiful old wood floor. We went through great effort to honor the sentimental value this building represented to the school system. The finished product took into consideration energy conservation and aesthetic appeal. We applied a system with added insulation for energy efficiency with a 2 ply modified system. The top cap is a unique modified that has a 24 gauge pine art finish. Again, working in time constraints to have the building open in time for classes to begin, we completed the job in approximately 2 months.

5 Hunt Hall Belk Hall CASE STUDY University of North Carolina Charlotte As the University of North Carolina Charlotte continues to expand, converting more than 1,000 acres of land into livable space, Radco Roofing was contracted for work on two new residence halls. The projects were very complex new construction roof projects consisting of decking insulation, shingles, TPO, standing seam metal, shop fabricated and pre-fabricated downspouts and gutters, all containing a myriad of differing roof angles, details, tie ins and transitions. Specialty components also completed for the UNCC projects were firewall flashings, soffits, custom wall panels and awnings. The work site was limited and the materials had to be stored offsite. Because both projects were completed on campus, safety was of the utmost importance. The crew dealt with a tight work-zone so they complied with all safety regulations by attending weekly progress meetings. We welcomed the opportunity to work with the University, whose architectural integrity is a valuable contribution to the beautiful city of Charlotte. The performance and cooperation of Radco on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte s Residence hall Phase 10 (Belk Hall) was outstanding. It was very unusual in today s world to having a subcontractor to help push the project. Radco was always on schedule and always went the extra mile to make the project a success. 6 CASE STUDY Green Roof Blowing Rock, NC As environmental awareness continues to be a growing priority, green roofs are becoming more common for private residences, schools, government and commercial buildings. In Blowing Rock, NC, we focused on a sustainable design, allowing this to be a LEED Certified project. Given the climate in the North Carolina mountains, an expedited time frame was required. Zinc is a custom building material that is only used under special conditions. It requires a craftsman with a unique skillset to install properly. Radco was able to provide this expertise along with the expertise to install all of the other components of this challenging project.

7 Potential Benefits of a Green Roof A green roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and soil, or a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. It may also include additional layers such as a root barrier and drainage and irrigation systems. Green roofs are also referred to as eco-roofs, vegetated roofs. Reduce heating Reduce cooling (by evaporative cooling) Reduce storm water run off Natural habitat creation Filter pollutants and carbon dioxide out of the air Filter pollutants and heavy metals out of rainwater Help to insulate a building for sound; the soil helps to block lower frequencies and the plants block higher frequencies May contribute to LEED points if installed correctly Increase agricultural space
