2 MSU-Tollgate Evenings in the Garden Registration is open for the latest "Evenings in the Garden" classes at MSU Tollgate Farm These classes are for gardeners of all levels. Regional experts will be here in the Conference Center to help us solve problems in the garden and appreciate our world outside. 4 MSU Bee-Palooza June 24, 2018 MSU will host its annual Bee Palooza at the MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens on the MSU Campus in East Lansing. This is a free event for the entire family that will include exhibits on bees, plants and pollinators. The bumble bee exhibit will include a live observation colony. At the honey bee observation hive, Michigan bee keepers will be on hand to talk about what it takes to keep honey bees. Information will be available for planting gardens to support pollinators and how to build a native bee hotel. There will be even more exhibits and fun activities for kids and adults, including face painting. Featured on this year s walk will be many unique and diverse residential gardens in Milford and the nearby surrounding areas. Advance tickets may be purchased by mail for $12.00 each beginning in May, by visiting the Milford Garden Club website and completing the mail order form. Milford Road, or The Pond Place in Highland. The day of the walk, they will only be available at Central Park. Proceeds will benefit scholarships to local high school seniors. 18th Annual Rochester Garden Walk Thursday, June 21, a.m. to 5 p.m. Garden walk participants will have access to five unique private gardens and two public gardens. Advance vouchers will be available from May 21 through noon on June 20 from Bordine s Nursery or Lytle Pharmacy, or from the museum website, rochesterhills.org/musprograms. Cost is $12 in advance or $16 on the day of the event. Beginning June 18, tickets can be purchased at the Rochester Hills Museum, 1005 Van Hoosen Road, Rochester Hills 48306, from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. 6 2018 Fenton Summer Garden Tour Sunday, July 15, a.m. - 5 p.m. Seven beautiful gardens in Fenton and the surrounding area will be featured in this years tour, reflecting the unique style of the gardener from rolling wooded acres to cozy backyards, each garden is a work of art. Both gardeners and nature lovers alike will enjoy spending the day strolling through these lovely creations, absorbing their beauty and taking away an idea or two. MSU Tollgate Gardens are the perfect place for you. Here is the opportunity to continue your education by working side by side with seasoned gardeners. These smart and welcoming people are always happy to share their knowledge. Being a Tollgate volunteer has many advantages: participating in monthly programs with speakers, sharing your gardening experiences and making new friends. Garden workdays are every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon with a hot dog and potato salad lunch provided after the workday. Tollgate is a 160 acre "Oasis" located in the heart of Novi at the corner of Meadowbrook & 12 Mile Roads. Just look for the long white fence. Meadow Brook Garden Club Invites Gardeners Meadow Brook Garden Club maintains the gardens on the estate grounds of Meadow Brook Hall, 350 Estate Drive, Rochester MI gardening days are every Tuesday morning April 10 through October 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon. All who are interested in gardening are invited to join in helping to maintain these beautiful gardens, designated as a Proven Winners Signature Garden. Master Gardeners and candidates will earn volunteer hours toward your Master Gardener required hours. Bring hand tools (pruners, trowel, cultivator) and any other gardening items that you normally use. Come and join us and meet fellow gardening enthusiasts. Experience is not required. 9 Meadow Brook Naturalists Meadow Brook Naturalists, are a Meadow Brook Hall volunteer group dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the woodland areas around Meadow Brook Hall, The Naturalists are looking for volunteers to help restore the woodlands around the hall by removing invasive plants and planting native trees, shrubs and perennials. Workdays are usually on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 9am til noon. Meet by the garage in the courtyard. Please dress appropriately as we will be working in natural woodland/wetland areas that could have thorns or poison ivy. Close toed shoes/boots are necessary. Tools will be provided. You may be interested in a part-time, seasonal position supporting the local Lawn and Garden Hotline by answering public inquiries made via and phone, and will assist the public at the Oakland County MSUE horticulture diagnostic counter. Under general supervision, this position works under the instruction of the MSUE Extension Educator designated for Oakland County Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute (AABI) researching and providing the public with information and educational material regarding science-based horticulture practices to manage the home environment (lawns, gardens, landscapes, and ornamentals.) Also, you will assist with the interpretation of soil test results and determines nutrient recommendations and will direct inquiries to appropriate entities for special diagnosis where required.
