5 Chapter 2 Overview 1. Overview description What is Argonite Amulay 30? An automatic fire-extinguishing system capable of detecting a fire, discharging extinguishing agent, and extinguishing the fire automatically. Can be manually discharged if a person discovered a fire before the equipment did. Argonite extinguishing agent is a clean, environmentally friendly extinguishing agent consisting only of argon and nitrogen and with a zero ozone layer depletion coefficient and a zero global warming coefficient. Basic knowledge of Argonite Amulay 30 An integral type with its control functions and extinguishing agent contained in a compact unit box. The power supply used is based on a dedicated primary power supply of 100 V AC (which can optionally be changed to 200 V). The secondary power supply is 24 V DC. The fire sensor system is nationally certified. (It basically consists of two kinds of sensors: heat sensor and smoke sensor.) The control circuit is equipped with a "self-diagnosis function." It emits a fault alarm (intermittent beeping and error lamp blinking) in the case of any of the following errors: Manual Release line fault Sensor line open circuit Ground fault Circuit voltage fauly Actuator line fault Actuator connection fault A maintenance switch is installed to prevent accidents during inspection, thereby avoiding the inadvertent discharge of extinguishing agent during maintenance. Turning the maintenance switch to the "Maintenance" position will cause the maintenance lamp to flash, and shut down the signal circuit to the gas cartridge actuator that opens the valve. The availability of various interface functions enables you to take out signals for stopping and activating related equipment (such as fans, air-conditioners, pumps, and motors) in an interlocked manner, along with fire alarm signals and other signals. If the object to be protected is too large to be covered with the given extinguishing agent capacity, sub-type equipped with a built-in extinguishing agent container can be added. 3

As soon as maintenance is complete, therefore, set the equipment to the "Normal" position. The front panel has indicators to show the state of the system. Top view of the rear side of the door Maintenance switch Chapter 4 Operation description 1. For automatic fire extinguishing (a choice of the AND circuit system or the OR circuit system) For the AND circuit system (standard system) In response to a fire signal from the sensor connected to either of the two fire sensor lines, the speaker will broadcast fire-extinguishing instructions, which instruct the persons indoors to identify and extinguish the fire. In response to a fire signal from the sensor connected to the other fire sensor line, or in response to a startup operation, the speaker will broadcast evacuation instructions, which recommend the persons indoors to evacuate the place. At the same time, the front panel counts down (digitally displays) the time remaining to discharge of the extinguishing agent. When the preset delay time is up, extinguishing agent will be discharged. The standard delay time is 10 seconds. (The equipment can be set to any value between 5 and 10 seconds.) For the OR circuit system In response to a fire signal from either of the two fire sensor lines, the speaker will broadcast evacuation instructions, which recommend the persons indoors to evacuate the place. At the same time, the front panel counts down (digitally displays) the time remaining to discharge of extinguishing agent. When the preset delay time is up, extinguishing agent will be discharged. The standard delay time is 10 seconds. (The equipment can be set to any value between 5 and 10 seconds.) Manual release has priority over everything else. 9
12 2. For manual fire extinguishing (when set to Manual) In response to a signal from a fire sensor line, the system will emit a fire alarm but will not discharge. Startup is conducted by a startup operation. In response to a fire signal from either of the two fire sensor lines, the speaker will broadcast fire-extinguishing instructions, which instruct the persons indoors to identify and extinguish the fire. A startup operation causes the speaker to broadcast evacuation instructions, recommending the persons indoors to evacuate the place. At the same time, the front panel counts down (digitally displays) the time remaining to discharge of extinguishing agent. When the preset delay time is up, extinguishing agent will be discharged. For emergency stoppage For both automatic fire extinguishing and manual fire extinguishing, and if the fire is controlled or extinguished before the digital timer reads "0," the "Abort button" on the front panel can be pressed to make an emergency stop of the system, thereby stopping discharge of the extinguishing agent. 10

16 2. How to turn on the power supply To turn on the power of the Amulay, follow the procedures described below. A mistaken procedure may result in breakdown. Turn off the power switch of the control panel and the power switch of the power supply. Check if the wiring and connectors of the control panel and power supply are correctly connected. Connect the connectors between the power supply and battery. Caution: Unless the battery connectors are connected, the fire extinguisher will not become activated in the case of a blackout. Turn on the power switch of the power supply. For power supplies, the AC power lamp (green) and power circuit lamp (green) will go on. (For models equipped with charge indicator, this indicator (green) will go on as well.) For certified power supplies, the power indicator (red) will go on, with the voltmeter reading 24 V DC. Turn on the power switch of the control panel. Caution: To shut down the power supply or exchange batteries for inspection or other purposes, proceed with the work in reverse of that procedure. Caution: If the primary power supply is to be shut down for more than an hour, the battery may be excessively charged, resulting in deterioration. Therefore turn off the power switch of the control panel and the power switch of the power supply and disconnect the battery connectors. For restoration, follow the procedure described above. (Do not forget to connect the battery connectors.) Note that the equipment is not active (in a monitoring state) when its primary power is shut down and the battery is disconnected. When connected to a new or discharged battery, the equipment takes about 48 hours until its charging is complete. Note: The battery lasts about five years. It should be replaced after 5 years. Chapter 6 Post-activation treatment If the Argonite Amulay 30 is activated and has discharged its extinguishing agent, be sure to have it repaired promptly by your dealer, service company, maintenance company, or manufacturer having a licensed fire-extinguishing equipment operator. After it is activated, be sure to replace the following parts: Pilot cylinder Extinguishing agent container (rechargeable) Gas-cartridge actuator Fire-damaged parts (including detectors and wiring) 14
17 Chapter 7 Maintenance and inspection 1. Daily inspection The Argonite Amulay 30 is only used in the case of fires. Be sure to perform daily inspection before the shift every day to ensure that the equipment functions normally and displays its effect fully in the case of an unexpected fire. The normal indicator on the front panel is on. Normal Either the auto indicator or the manual indicator on the front panel is on. Normal The indicators on the front panel other than those mentioned above are off. Normal The beeper is not sounding. Normal The door to the unit cabinet is properly closed. Normal The unit cabinet and external connection equipment are free of damage. The connections are free of abnormalities. Normal 2.
