3 As FCIA s President, welcome to the 2010 Firestop Industry Conference and Trade Show. With my term coming to a close, I d like to express my sincere gratitude to the 2010 Board of Directors, FCIA Committees and the entire FCIA Staff for all they ve accomplished throughout this year. With their efforts and the many others who unselfishly give of their time and personal resources, FCIA continues to improve, expand and make a difference in our industry. Thanks for improving Firestopping and Life Safety in buildings! Our accomplishments, as an industry, have given each of us pride in what we do. And, we have the ability to improve Life Safety throughout the world, while creating bright futures for our employees and their families through the opportunity to expand and prosper. We owe this industry our livelihoods and we should all personally invest in its future by volunteering our time to the association that represents your interests, the Firestop Contractors International Association. Please consider getting actively involved, whether running for the FCIA board, sitting on a FCIA Committee, or even voicing your concerns or compliments to the board. It all helps guide the direction of our industry for the future. It s your association and it s here to represent your interests be involved! As our founders formalized in the FCIA mission statement more than ten years ago, through active participation in the FCIA and related forums, members contribute to the advancement of the firestop and compartmentation industry and maintain exceptional knowledge of this specialized service. In the spirit of this mission, I ask that you encourage others to be part of FCIA. With the growth of our membership expanded to a record number of 277 members, we should all be very proud of what FCIA has accomplished as well as for the future to come. 9 FCIA Firestop Industry Conference & Trade Show Agenda Speaker Profiles ~ In order of appearance Jeff Gould, FM Approvals Jeff is a Senior Engineering Specialist in the Materials Group of FM Approvals. Jeff has been with FM Approvals for over 23 years in various engineering and managerial capacities. He represents FM Approvals on a number of technical committees including NFPA committees and other various code bodies. He has also been involved with the research and development of a number of test methods and standards that are used to assess products destined to become FM Approved. Jeff has been involved in the FM 4991 Approval of Firestop Contractors program from its inception and worked closely with the industry in developing the Approval Standard. He was awarded the FCIA Advocate of the Year in Jeff has a BS in Civil Engineering from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMASS Dartmouth) and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of MA. Headquartered in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, Bill and his team of engineers provide consulting; engineering design & construction administration; codes & standards development; seminar development & training; product testing & evaluation / representation; and litigation support to public and private clients worldwide. Bill remains active in the development process of the industry s governing codes, standards and design guidelines including the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), International Code Council (ICC), International Fire Code (IFC), International Building Code (IBC), International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICCES), International Existing Building Code (IEBC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and Underwriters Laboratory (UL). His experience makes him an invaluable asset to the firm. Keeton joined Dalton in 1985, and has succeeded at every job in the company from fieldwork to managing its installers. In 2000, Keeton began concentrating on the emerging firestopping market. Since then, he has reached the highest levels of industry training and certification. He has the ability to work with contractors on site or evaluate drawings and plans from architects. He assesses firestopping needs, makes recommendations and oversees the professional and accurate installation of firestopping materials. Keeton is FM approved, a DRI and has tested to UL standards. He is currently the Vice President of Firestop for Telgian Corporation, a full service Fire Protection Engineering firm based out of Tempe, AZ. His work experience ranges from inspecting to consulting for firestop and smoke barrier management systems, fire rated doors and dampers. He has worked on new construction and remediation projects for healthcare facilities, educational, high rise commercial, municipal projects and surety claims management. As an associate member of FCIA, he is a member of the Technical and Standards Committees helping to write standards for 3 rd Party Inspectors as a contributing author FCIA MOP (Manual of Practice). Pat is a member of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), ASHE (American Society of Healthcare Engineers), and is a voting member at ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) in which he is on the E-06 and E-05 Committees and the ASSE 9000 Task Group working on Installer and Inspector Certifications. He is also a Founding Member of the Life Safety Organization. He is certified in HILTI, STI, 3M, Tremco, WR Grace and Unique Firestop Systems. 12 FCIA Firestop Industry Conference & Trade Show Agenda Speaker Profiles ~ In order of appearance Randy Bosscawen Randy Bosscawen, DRI, CHC, is President of Multicon Construction, and Multicon Fire Containment, located in Columbus, Ohio. Multicon was originally formed in 1988 to redevelop a 27-acre downtown district of historic, century old, brewery buildings into mixed use groups including office, nightclub, and restaurant, residential and mercantile. Having a major concern for the life safety of their tenants, Multicon formed a firestopping division known today as Multicon Fire Containment. As word of mouth spread about Multicon s firestopping expertise, they were soon contracting their services to other entities. Currently over 85% of Multicon s operations is in the life safety - firestopping field. Randy is a charter member of FCIA, the 2010 President and is also the FCIA Standards Committee chairman. While Multicon is an FM 4991 Approved Contractor, and a UL Qualified Firestop Contractor, Randy also serves as one of the firm s FM 4991 DRI s. He is also an ASHE Contractor Certificate Holder and holds the American Hospital Associations Certified Healthcare Constructors Certification. Randy is a member of ASTM and currently co-chairs the task group for E Proposed Standard Guide for Credentials for Inspectors of Fire Stops and Fire Resistive Joint Systems. He is active as a UL Standards Technical Panel (STP) Member as well. Additional memberships include NFPA, IFC, and ICC. Randy is also a father of four; his daughter, Christi, is an RN working at Children s Hospital and son Ryan has a videography business in Columbus, Ohio. He is responsible for managing technical services department and provides technical assistance, engineering judgments, advice and troubleshooting concerning various conditions related to fire protection applications. He works directly with large architectural firms, general contractors, key customers, consultants, UL engineers and fire protection engineers and is involved with Commercial, Industrial and International operations. His primary responsibilities include Field Management of the HILTI HAFSC program including leading all training workshops. Support development of the Fire Protection Systems team with training programs such as FAST Start. He is also responsible for Firestop strategy development and implementation for the Chemicals Business Unit. He has been with HILTI approx. 23 years, with firestopping experience as North American Market Manager Fire Protection Systems (2000-Present), National Sales Manager Fire Protection Systems ( ), and as a Fire Protection Specialist ( ). Guy is a Member of the International Firestop Council (IFC), Firestop Contractors International Association (FCIA), National Speaker at CSI, NFPA and ASHE Conferences, has installed and witnessed dozens of firestop tests at UL in Northbrook, IL, and trained countless people on correct installation of firestop systems over many years. As the recent Air Movement and Control Association Chair for life safety code action review, Mark has helped influence current revisions to NFPA and IBC publications. Mark also worked with the State of California Fire Services department to adopt the 2006 IBC statewide. He also serves on the National Air Duct Cleaners Association Standards Committee. In addition, he is an author in over 50 articles, published in the academic and professional journals, related to ventilation and water quality in health care. Mr. Streifel was invited to joint the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America as well as invited speaker to four SHEA annual meetings. During work as a health care consultant, he has been involved in the investigation of over 60 clusters of infection related to hospital air quality. He has served as a consultant in over 400 hospitals world wide on a variety of indoor air quality issues, water microbial contamination and has investigated clusters of bacterial infections due to unsanitary clinical practice. His current research interests involve sanitation validation and ventilation optimization without compromising safety in healthcare facilities. Jacobs current position as vice president of facilities and construction at Saint Luke s Health System involves oversight of all areas of design, construction, renovation, master planning, and plant operations and maintenance for 11 Kansas City area hospitals. Jacobs position also includes negotiating construction contracts and coordinating the development of all capital improvement construction projects from inception to completion. Most notably, Jacobs is overseeing completion of the New Saint Luke s, Saint Luke s Hospital s $330 million multi-phase renovation.
