3 Product information 3.1 Brief description The fire alarm system is the central element with regard to the fire protection of a building. Being an alarm system for dangerous situations, it is used to save lives and to protect people s health, the environment as well as material assets. It consists of the central fire alarm system, the fire detectors as well as the control and alarm organisation. The dc3400 SC system includes several compatible assemblies as well as small, individual centre applications. Currently, the FCP dc3400 SC monitors a loop wiring system (loop) which may include up to 126 loop components which, in turn, can be divided into 100 detector zones with a line length of up to 3000 m. The loop wiring system is a monitored 2-wire bus with a ring line. The system guarantees a safe detection of fire areas or impurities due to the individual identification of the detectors and/or the addressing and control components and provokes a predefined action. The different lights on the LED display indicate current alarms, faults and other messages. The display which can be easily operated and understood provides comprehensible clear text information with regard to operation, fault and alarm. 3.2 Environmental conditions In order to ensure a safe use of the FCP dc3400 SC it is necessary to observe and comply with certain environmental conditions when installing the system. 11 3.4 New features in Version Serial number check The loop card of the FCP checks the serial number of all read in loop components. If differences are notified, then a fault message "Serial number changed" appears. This fault can NOT be reset by pressing "Reset". To change a polluted or defective detector you can copy the detector data to a new detector. You need to enter the menu "System parameters" and start "Extend / reduce loop". The new serial number of the detector will now be saved and the fault message will disappear Detection of detector change (Type check) New is also the perusal of the detector type. Changing a detector type, for example from an "O" to an "OT" detector, then you need to start the "Extend / reduce loop" procedure from the menu "System parameters". The new detector will still be recognized as a new detector, which will automatically be set to the default zone 9501 and the fault message "Wrong detector type" will be displayed. You need to reprogram the detector to the desired zone via the dpt software. The fault message will disappear doing so. The following conditions lead to the detector change fault (type check): Concerning detectors have an isolator (3300 series) There are no further faults in the loop The type check cannot be done in line operation Indication of detector pollution All automatic detectors with a optical measure chamber (O, OT, OTi, Oti Fusion...) are poluttion monitored. The FCP can determine the grade of pollution in three levels. Level 1 & 2 do not lead to a fault message, only a notify message will be generated. Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Pollution >30% = Notify message Pollution >70% = Notify message Pollution >80% = Fault message A Pollution of >80% will automatically lead to a fault message and the fault relay will be triggered Key lock function A key lock function can be installed from version 2.5 or newer. This key lock function can be used to unlock the user password levels. This must be programmed in the dpt software in the system parameters. Hardware implementation is done via a contact on the "Display and Indication Board". Version

3.4.5 Mappings The possible mappings have been extended. Further source and targets have been added. Additional information can be found in the dpt manual Firmware-Updates Firmware updates of the single FCP boards are now only possible via the dpt. A FCP dc3400 SC version can now be updated to version 2.5. All FCP boards will be updated automatically. Exception is the Display and Indication Board. The board can be updated separately to install new languages. 4 Installation 4.1 Requirements The following procedures are to be assured in order to ensure a fault free operation of the FCP dc3400 SC, the following Only install the FCP dc3400 SC in dry, clean and conditionally accessible rooms. In this connection, observe chapter "3.2 Environmental conditions" on page 9. Assemble the FCP dc3400 SC without mechanical stress on a level mounting surface. The FCP dc3400 SC may only be commissioned after it has been professionally attached to a wall or mounting surface with sufficient load-bearing capacity. Avoid strong electrical / electro-magnetic and mechanical influences. This applies in particular to the assembly of the FCP dc3400 SC, components and installation lines in the immediate vicinity of fluorescent lamps or energy cables and the fastening on vibrating, instable surfaces like, e.g. thin partition walls. 17 Function The voltage supply of the FCP dc3400 SC and the 24V DC supply voltage for external devices are located on the power board card. The maximum current load due to external devices is 400mA. CPU The mains adapter s CPU measures and monitors all voltages and if necessary, forwards these values via the CAN bus. Additionally, the CPU controls the charging controller for the connected battery. Sub voltage disablement of the battery If the battery voltage falls below 22.7 V, the battery is disabled. This function can be bridged using jumper 201 in order to achieve an emergency start function. Please keep in mind that an exhaustively discharged battery can normally not be used anymore. Charging controller The battery voltage varies by means of temperature. The current is consistently maintained at 1.6 A. When the final charging voltage is reached, the system will change over into trickle charge mode. In case of negative temperatures, the battery will not be charged. Disablement criteria The battery charge is disabled as soon as: The actual temperature falls below or exceeds the temperature specified by the battery manufacturer The charging current exceeds 1.8 A After 24 hours, if the battery has still not taken up 80% of its charge The final charging voltage is not achieved within a predefined period Temperature compensation If the ext. temperature sensor is not connected, the temperature sensor is analysed in the processor of the power board card. As soon as the ext. temperature sensor (type KTY ) is connected, it accepts the battery control function. Explanation of the two fault messages Battery fault / missing: Means the battery is actually missing or the voltage is below 14 Volt. Battery totally discharged: Means that the battery voltage is below 22,7V and can only appear in mains operation. Batteries The power board card is designed for a battery capacity of maximally two batteries (12 Ah) with the dimensions 100 mm x 151 mm x 99 mm (H x W x D). If the mains voltage fails, the batteries continue the voltage supply without interruption. Maximum charging current: 1.6 A. Sign of life LED The sign of life LED must flash every second. If this is not the case, the input voltage has failed or the power board card is defective. In this case, check the mains adapter connection and/or the main fuse at the mains connection. Version

The elements like detectors, manual call points, signallers, etc. must be easily accessible and permanently fastened. Example of Connection Possibilities Version

4.5 Housing assembly Warning! Danger due to electric shock. Assembly and installation of the FCP dc3400 SC must be carried out in a deadvoltage state! The FCP dc3400 SC may only be operated with closed housing. Operation is inadmissible if the housing is open, the housing openings have been manipulated or if housing plates are missing. Warning! Connect the housing to an earth potential in order to avoid electrostatic charging. Observe the precautions when dealing with electrostatically sensitive components. The FCP dc3400 SC is to be fitted to the wall so that the displays can easily be read and the keyboard can easily be used. The mounting height should lie between 1.50 m and 1.80 m. Display and LED display should be at eye level so that the operator can operate the display without problems. The housing is provided without batteries and only with the internal lines. The use of batteries as replacement power supply is absolutely necessary. For more information please refer to chapter Installing the batteries on page Assembly steps 1 For the wall assembly, use S8 dowels and Ø 6 mm cylinder head bolts. Select a screw length ensuring a stable suspension. 2 Make the upper two borings (Ø 8 mm) in the wall according to the assembly drawing. 3 Insert the dowels and screw two cylinder head bolts into them. When doing so, comply with a distance between the screw head and the wall of approx. 19 mm. The cylinder head screws must not bear the housing on the spacers! 4 For the time being, hook up the housing. 5 Mark the dimensions for the bottom borings. 6 Remove the housing again in order to make the bottom borings (Ø 8 mm) into the wall. 7 Hang the housing finally onto the top screws and apply the bottom screws. 8 Make sure that the housing is firmly hanging at the wall and that no mechanical stress is generated. Version

4.6 Line connections After the housing assembly, the lines of the external components (detectors and/or modules) of the FCP dc3400 SC are inserted. Note! For concealed wires, use the opening in the housing s back wall. For surface-mount wires, use the openings on the top of the housing for cable connections. In the delivery condition, these openings are closed by means of a cover plate. The wires used must be shielded in order to provide protection against interferences. We recommend using correspondingly prescribed fire alarm lines. In order to avoid short-circuits with other terminals and other earth faults due to not insulated, blank lines of the drain wire, they should be insulated. This measure must particularly be complied with in the area of fire-extinguisher cabinets, when connecting pressure switches in metal housings on IOMs or in assemblies with metal consoles at profiled sheeting and other metal constructions. Warning! Do only complete the line connections if the FCP dc3400 SC is in a dead-voltage state. 1 Pull off the mains fuse holder at the 230V terminal so that there is no mains voltage after connection of the voltage supply. 2 Pass the detector lines and the supply line for the voltage supply through the provided openings into the housing. 3 Attach all signal lines (detectors, sirens, etc.) to the strain relieves. Do, however, not yet wire them! In limit value detectors you have to make sure that the terminating resistor 5.6kOhm / 0.25W that is installed in the FCP dc3400 SC housing is removed and installed into the last detector in the line. 4 Connect the supply lines for the voltage supply to the 230 V terminals. 5 Proceed as described in chapter 5 Commissioning from page Earthing Like all electrical devices, the FCP dc3400 SC can be damaged by a strike of lightening. By means of an orderly earthing, the risk of damage can be minimised. For this purpose, connect the PE of the mains connection of the FCP dc3400 SC with the PE rail of the distribution/sub-distribution from which the FCP dc3400 SC is supplied with mains voltage. Version

5 Commissioning 5.1 First commissioning Warning! Danger due to electric shock. The FCP dc3400 SC must still be in a dead-voltage state. One prerequisite for the commissioning is an orderly assembly of the FCP dc3400 SC. This includes the wall assembly incl. all inserted signal lines (detectors, sirens, etc.) that have not been wired, yet. The CAN devices that are assembled on the top of the connection board on the left and on the right constitute the CAN bus beginning and the CAN bus end. If more modules are attached to the CAN devices specified above, the former constitute the bus beginning and the bus end. All other CAN devices are correspondingly located in the bus centre. 1 Check the correct seat of all CAN devices on the connection board. 2 Wire all open, monitored outputs that are not to be wired with corresponding terminating resistors: Output External signallers Monitored outputs loop components You complete the first commissioning by means of our commissioning record. The commissioning record supports you in the commissioning and also simplifies the support by the manufacturer. For wiring the lines use the supplied connection plans of the loop devices. Note! Record the completed commissioning action in the supplied commissioning record Procedure of the commissioning report The commissioning report contains the chronological order of all necessary steps to successively commission the FCP dc3400 SC. Document all measurements in the commissioning report. The FCP dc3400 SC does not provide the same diagnostic possibilities as the Fire Control Panel detect 3004 (Order-No.: 31973). Use the loop tester LT3000 (Order-No.:31625) to check possibly manual assigned detector addresses and the loop structure on correctness at first installation or after extending the structure of the loop. This can assure a correct and confident running of the fire control system. Wiring and checking Lines If available, wire the following lines or check lines that have already been wired (the drain wire must not be wired to the PE potential, yet!): Power supply (do not turn on) Signallers Note! Only use shielded lines. Version

Powering the FCP dc3400 SC and Read-in the CAN-Devices If the FCP dc3400 SC is started for the first time, the CAN devices are firstly read in automatically. 1 Check date and time after the first start and correct them, if necessary! 2 Calibrate the display. For more information please refer to chapter Display calibration on page 28. Note! For the operation of the display, please refer to more information in chapter 6 Operation of the FCP dc3400 SC on page 37. Warning! Only unplug and/or plug the CAN devices if the FCP dc3400 SC is in a dead-voltage state. 1 Push the fuse holder back into place to supply the voltage supply via the 230 V terminals. The FCP dc3400 SC starts up. At the display, the message Building up Loop appears. 2 In the first commissioning, all CAN devices are shown in the beginning. If all CAN devices are shown in the display correctly, you have t confirm it. If not all CAN devices are shown, check the correct seat, the addressing and the function standby (sign of life LED) of the CAN devices. In this case, repeat the CAN device read-in by pressing the [ Scan FCP mod. again ] button. 3 Press the [ Ok ] button at the display, if all CAN devices have been recognised properly. Detector Read-in After you have read in the CAN devices, you need to press [ Ok ] to open the read in functions. 1 Select the desired read in funktion. Learn loopstructure (SCAN): The existing addresses or those that have first been assigned manually (easy check) are scanned in. In this way, an existing system can be extended, i.e. the new detectors are assigned free addresses via the easy check and are then read-in by means of this scan command. Readdress loopstructure (AUTO): Comprises the automatic addressing. In the automatic addressing, loop components are automatically assigned addresses according to the line run. It is thus suitable for the first commissioning. Note! Read-in of the loop components (detectors) can be repeated as often as you want (e. g. for the troubleshooting in the loop structure). 2 Press the [ Ok ] button if all loop components are displayed correctly. Thus, the Detector Read-in process is completed. 3 Press the [ Ok ] button in order to confirm the display. After the confirmation, the Standby menu appears. Version

As no batteries have been connected, yet, the Fault Open circuit Batteries error message still appears in the display and at the LED display. In order to remedy the fault, connect the specified batteries. More information in chapter 3.3 Technical Data from page 9. Wiring the shield on one side to PE Wire the shield on one side to PE. If it is wired on both sides, the shield must be separated approximately in the centre of the loop. Testing the loop communication One after the other, separate the ML individually. Corresponding loop faults (open circuit L-) must be displayed Installing the batteries The batteries guarantee an emergency power supply for the FCP dc3400 SC in case of a voltage fault. The batteries are not contained in the delivery. The FCP dc3400 SC is designed for a maximum of two batteries. Only use the battery types recommended by the manufacturer. For more information please refer to chapter 3.3 Technical Data from page 9. Warning! Danger due to electric shock. Installation of the FCP dc3400 SC may only be carried out in a dead-voltage state. For this purpose, the fuse holder at the mains connection terminal must be opened in order to disconnect the emergency power supply. Put the FCP dc3400 SC into a dead-voltage state. (Pull out the detachable mains fuse) 1 Put the batteries into the housing. Warning! Pay attention to the polarity of the connections. In case of wrong polarity, the battery fuse on the power board card will blow. 2 Connect the batteries using the supplied connection lines. For more information see annex 2. After the batteries have been connected, the battery fault message at the display disappears FCP dc3400 SC standard programming The FCP dc3400 SC automatically sets up a few standard programming's at commissioning. The relay 1 will be set as an alarm relay, the relay 2 will be set as a fault relay. So the relays will be triggered in case of an alarm or fault. The external signallers will also be activated in case of an alarm by default programming from the basic module. The loop sounders and IO-modules (outputs) will also be activated by default depending on the loop structure. The default standard programming of the relays and components will also be downloaded and indicated in the corresponding dpt-explorer of the detectomat programming tool. Version
