4 SPRING YARD WASTE PICK-UP TUESDAY MAY 1ST Advanced Disposal will pick-up yard waste from residential properties on Tuesday May 1st. Crews will visit each road once so have your yard waste prepared and at the curb by 6:00am Tuesday morning. Acceptable yard waste consists of leaves, grass clippings, garden debris and brush that is no greater than 6 in diameter. Advanced Disposal will not take stumps, roots, shrubs with root balls, and brush greater than 6 in diameter. These guidelines must be followed in order for your yard waste to be picked up: Place leaves, grass clippings, garden debris and small twigs in a plastic or galvanized container with handles. If you must use bags, make sure they are biodegradable (bags can be purchased from local hardware stores). DO NOT use plastic bags! These bags are not biodegradable and cannot be mixed in with yard waste. Any material placed in plastic bags will be left behind. Brush should be securely tied in bundles no greater than 4 ft. long and 2 ft. in diameter. Place your garbage/recycling carts at least 5 feet from your yard waste. If you have any questions, please contact Advanced Disposal at (888) or the Harrison Municipal Building at YARD WASTE SITE HOURS Monday, Wednesday, Friday 7:30 am - 3:30 pm Tuesday & Thursday 7:30 am - 7:30 pm Saturday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm YARD WASTE SITE OPENS APRIL 21ST 2018 All yard waste, small brush and compostable materials are accepted, including biodegradable lawn bags. The site is located behind the Municipal Building (corner of State Park Road & Hwy 114). Residents must purchase an annual vehicle windshield sticker from the front desk in order to use this service. Stickers are $5.00 annually. CURBSIDE BRUSH PICK-UP Harrison Public Works Department will pick up large brush beginning April 30th Requests for pick up must be called in to by the Friday before the last Monday of the Month. Please leave your name and address. This service is available through October. Exceptions for end of the month pickup may be made when there is storm damage. We kindly ask that you not request this service for removal of small piles, grass clippings, etc. The heavy machinery used to remove brush piles is not equipped to clear small debris. Smaller yard waste items can be disposed of at the Yard Waste Site with the purchase of a yard waste pass. Please keep in mind that the Road Department is not responsible for clearing lots in preparation for excavation or construction and that arrangements for such type of work needs to be taken care of by the property owner. In addition, we will not chip limbs that have been taken down by a professional contractor. 4

6 HARRISON FIRE RESCUE Harrison Fire Rescue wants to remind the community that Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors need to be replaced every 10 years. During the past four years, Harrison Fire Rescue has been dispatched 85 times for what we classify as False Alarms, where a detector was alarming the residents, but there was no hazards found when our members investigated. A large percentage of these calls had either Smoke Alarms or Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarms that were older than 10 years old. Why do alarms need to be changed? Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms use sensors to see if a hazard exists in your home. These sensors do lose their sensitivity over time, making a false alarm more likely. Also, the air in our home contains dust and other contaminates that can build up on these sensors. Not only do they alarm falsely, there is a risk that when you need them, they won t alert you in a timely manner, or even worse, alert you at all. The recommendation to replace them every 10 years comes from the United States Fire Administration, the federal government s fire & emergency prevention bureau. They are the reason a manufactured date is printed on the detector, so that you can protect yourself. This is NOT a manufacturer s recommendation designed to sell more detectors. You may have heard the phrase Change your Clocks, Change your batteries. This year, check to see when your detectors were manufactured, if they are 10 years old or older, it s time to just replace the whole detector. You even have the option to purchase a new one that has a 10 year battery life, making that annual change less likely. Follow these four steps: 1. Remove your detector from the wall or ceiling. 2. Look at the back of the detector for the date of manufacture. 3. If the date is from 2008 or older, replace the detector. 4. If the date is less than 10 years, replace the battery and reinstall the detector. Harrison Fire Rescue is here to help if you have questions or need assistance. While we enjoy meeting the residents we protect, preventing emergency responses to false alarms helps reduce the costs of fire protection and reduces risks to those in our community. If your alarms are sounding and you are unsure why, do not hesitate to call 911, Harrison Fire Rescue will help you find the problem! The future park on Manitowoc Rd needs a name! Which one is your favorite? Farmers Field Founders Field Legacy Park Call or ckrause@harrison-wi.org with your vote. SUMMER FUN IN THE PARK HOSTED BY KIWANIS OF DARBOY HELD AT DARBOY COMMUNITY PARK June June July August DOG LICENSES DUE BY MARCH 31, 2018 Dog owners must purchase a license by March 31st. The cost is $5 for spayed or neutered dogs and $10 for unaltered dogs. You must provide a copy of the rabies vaccination certificate when you purchase the license. Any request processed after March 31st will be assessed a $5.00 late fee. Leashed (not more than ten feet in length) animals are allowed on officially designated trails only. It is the pet owner's responsibility to clean up after their pet. It shall be unlawful for any person owning, keeping or harboring any dog, male or female, to permit such dog to run at large within the limits of the village. 6
