4 ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS Ruskin FAST Angle The FAST Angle is a UL tested, Ruskin exclusive, mounting angle that cuts installation time in half. The FAST Angle allows Ruskin Fire and Fire Smoke Dampers to be installed with only one mounting angle (not the usual two). The FAST Angle is preformed to fit each Ruskin Fire or Fire Smoke Damper. It is factory punched with screw holes to help achieve quick, easy, and accurate UL approved installations. Ruskin Controlled Closure Electric Fuse Link and Pneumatic Fuse Link (Standard) Typical fire smoke dampers close instantaneously and lock in a closed position when temperatures in excess of 165 F (212 F optional) are detected. Ruskin eliminates HVAC duct system damage due to instantaneous closure. The EFL (electric fuse link) and PFL (pneumatic fuse link) are Ruskin standard heat activated closure devices which utilize the electric or pneumatic actuator, return springs to close and lock the damper. The damper never disconnects from the actuator. The EFL incorporates a manual push button which makes the fire smoke damper easy to reset after a test or non fire heat activation. Ruskin FireStat (TS150) Option The Ruskin FireStat, when installed on the FSD60 or FSD35 Series fire smoke dampers, permits the damper to be opened and closed as an active and vital part of a dynamic smoke management system, from a remote command station, after initial closure. The damper s position OPEN or CLOSED can be accurately indicated, at the remote command station by switches linked directly to a damper blade. The TS150 features a high limit temperature sensor which causes the damper to return to the fire protection mode (closed) when temperatures reach the operational limit of the damper/actuator assembly (meets all NFPA92A requirements). Ruskin SP100 and SPH2 Option The SP100 and SPH2 are switch packages that contain two switches. One switch closes when the damper opens and the other closes when the damper closes. The SP100 mounts on the damper sleeve and connects to the blade while the SPH2 mounts to the actuator. If necessary, the SPH2 can be easily installed in the field. Actuators Ruskin combination fire smoke and smoke dampers are available with a variety of electric and pneumatic actuators for internal or external mounting. All Ruskin actuators have been cycle tested for 100,000 cycles and are rated for energized hold open position periods of 6 months or more (some for 1 year or more). They are also rated to open and close the damper against velocities as high as 4000 fpm and 8" w.g. All Ruskin actuators carry a minimum elevated temperature rating of 350 F. Sleeves Ruskin combination fire smoke and smoke dampers are available with factory mounted sleeves in gauges from 20 to 10 and in lengths required to meet your application. FSD with Controlled Closure and PFMA Easy Reset FAST Angle Temperature Sensor 2

6 FIRE DAMPERS FOR WALLS AND FLOORS Curtain Type Fire Dampers Standard and Dynamic Models Ruskin offers a complete line of standard curtain type fire dampers (IBD models). All IBD s are equipped with a 165 F (212 F optional) fusible link. These fire dampers are suitable for low, medium and high pressure systems. They are available in many different styles (round, oval, rectangular) to meet free area requirements. Dynamic curtain type fire dampers are designed and tested for closure under airflow to satisfy the requirements of UL555, Fourth Edition, published January, Dynamic fire dampers are applied as part of dynamic fire and smoke control systems which are designated to remain operational (fans running) in the event of a fire. Multiple Blade Fire Dampers When system air velocities exceed the curtain type fire damper closure ratings, multiple blade fire dampers from Ruskin like the FD35 and FD60 are the answer. They are approved for use in fire partitions with ratings of less than 3 hours and carry a 1-1/2 hour UL Fire Damper label. Multiple blade fire damper Model FD60-3 bears a 3 hour UL Fire Damper label and is approved for use in fire partitions with ratings of 3 hours or more. Ruskin multiple blade fire dampers meet all UL and NFPA requirements for primary fire dampers. Round Fire Dampers Ruskin also offers true round fire dampers. The FDR25 is designed for use where round ductwork penetrates metal stud, wood stud, masonry walls or floors with ratings of less than 3 hours. The FDR25 carries a 1-1/2 hour Fire Damper label and meets all UL and NFPA requirements for primary fire dampers. (D)IBD10 The (D)IBD10 is designed for metal stud or masonry applications and can be completely installed from one side of the wall. The external flanges may be attached directly to the metal stud or to the metal stud through the gypboard. The damper can also be installed prior to the metal stud wall framing members and without fasteners by framing the opening so the flanges fit inside the open side of the metal stud. The (D)IBD10 is installed from one side in masonry walls with the mounting straps shipped with each damper. DIBD20A, DIBD2B, DIBD2A FD60 4
7 CEILING FIRE DAMPERS Fire and Heat Protection Fire rated ceilings protect the structure of the floor or roof above from flames and heat in a building fire. HVAC openings, such as diffusers, return air openings, and grilles, that penetrate the protective ceiling of fire rated floor/ceiling and roof/ceiling assemblies must be equipped with the appropriate shield against fire and heat. Conventional fire dampers stop flame, but DO NOT stop heat. The inability to stop heat makes conventional fire dampers unacceptable for protecting fire rated ceilings. Ruskin CFD model ceiling fire dampers provide the appropriate protection needed for openings in fire rated ceilings. The UL Classified dampers protect against heat, as well as flame, in ceilings with fire resistance ratings of 3 hours or less. Sizes to fit round openings up to 20" diameter and rectangular openings up to 24" x 24" are available. CFDR2, CFD2, CFDR3 Ruskin Diffuser Radiation Shields Lay-in style ceiling diffusers present a unique challenge to fire and heat protection. Since the ceiling opening is always larger than the duct connection where ceiling fire dampers are installed, dampers do not provide sufficient protection. The Ruskin CFD5 diffuser radiation shield meets the requirement for lay-in ceiling diffuser protection. The CFD5 is specifically designed and qualified to protect the entire diffuser area and is UL Classified for ceilings with fire resistance ratings of 3 hours or less, the Ruskin diffuser radiation shield provides complete protection for the entire ceiling opening. The CFD5 is applicable for all steel lay-in style ceiling diffusers up to 24" x 24" with maximum neck size of 18" x 18" or 20" diameter. Warnock Hersey Ceiling Dampers Fire rated wood truss ceilings usually cannot be penetrated (depending on design). Ruskin CFDW model ceiling fire dampers provide the appropriate protection needed for openings in these fire rated wood truss ceilings. The W/H classified dampers have been evaluated and found in compliance with applicable standards. Sizes to fit round openings up to 20" diameter and rectangular openings up to 24" x 24" are available. Consult Ruskin for additional information regarding W/H ceiling dampers. 5
8 FIRE AND SMOKE DAMPER ACCESSORIES Integral Sleeves Integral sleeves from Ruskin make your Fire Damper ready to install at delivery to job site. Field sleeving and special handling after arrival are eliminated. This results in significant savings over the cost of conventionally sleeved fire rated damper. Fast Angle The FAST Angle is a UL tested, Ruskin exclusive, mounting angle that cuts installation time in half. Integral Caulked Sleeves Ruskin Smoke Dampers and Combination Fire Smoke Dampers with factory furnished sleeves are silicone caulked at the factory. These sleeves eliminate field mounting and field caulking of sleeves while ensuring the integrity of the damper s leakage rating. Special Tagging and Packaging Program Ruskin speeds handling of Fire and Smoke Dampers at large job sites by factory packaging by floor or area with highly visible tagging all at no additional cost. Easy to identify pallets helps speed construction time and lower costs. S-and-Drivemate Breakaway Connections This worry-free, sleeve-to-duct connection that stays joined is available only with Ruskin Fire Dampers. Use it with any standard S-slip for a UL approved installation that helps eliminate expensive call backs to reattach ductwork. It withstands systems pressures and velocities without coming apart. Order Ruskin fire damper sleeves factory hemmed so dampers are ready when they arrive at job site. Flanged Breakaway Connections As an alternative to S-slip joints, use Ductmate, Ward or Nexus add-on flange connectors or TDF/TDC roll formed flange connectors when joining Ruskin Fire or Fire Smoke Damper sleeves to ductwork. These connectors meet UL breakaway connection requirements and not switching connectors in the middle of a job can mean considerable savings. Fire Dampers Mullions Ruskin mullions install horizontally, vertically, or both between Fire Dampers when the wall opening size is larger than the damper s maximum UL listed multiple section assembly size. This means Fire Dampers can be installed according to the building plans and eliminate inspection problems with oversized openings.
