CMCS Vibradec is a logging unit that when connected by cable to one or two geophone sensing arrays, records and processes vibrations in three orthogonal directions, X, Y and Z. Limits can be set on allowable levels of vibration that if exceeded cause an alarm to be raised on specified mobile phones. If no alarm is reached then maximum values for each axis are recorded and stored at specified intervals. CMCS has deployed the Vibradec system on several sites to guarantee the products high quality and reliable data over a period of 3 years assuring Vibradec is a quality instrument for any project. This allows for CMCS to supply a cost effective, user friendly and remotely interactive, modern product, coupled with CMCS s dynamic approach to provide rapid collaboration with the client to tailor the system to their needs. Case Studies Canada House, Canadian High Commission Prior to the 2012 Olympics the Canadian High Commission redeveloped the interior of their base in central London. This involved knocking through four walls. The system included movement monitoring sensors across the top of each opening with strain gauges down one side and also included geophones for vibration monitoring during the knocking through phase of each opening. Vibration data could be downloaded by the Client whenever required via internet access and viewed on the site PC, which was also connected to an audio and visual alarm system in the site office which was triggered if movements exceeded set limits. If vibrations exceeded set limits texts alerts were triggered.

Weymouth Ferry Terminal Balfour Beatty requested vibration monitoring of the Ferry Terminal Building in Weymouth during piling works taking place in close proximity to it.

Three systems were installed, in the centre and in opposite corners of the building, giving the best possible overview of the vibrations within the monitored structure.

The solution included three systems talking scans every 10µsec, storing the data and periodically sending data to the CMCS server. Three systems were installed, in the centre and in opposite corners of the building, giving the best possible overview of the vibrations within the monitored structure. In order to measure the vibration of the actual structures and avoid any damping, the sensors were rigidly fixed to the concrete and steel columns using L shaped brackets and clamps. The concern was that the vibration caused by pilling works could damage the building so mobile text alerts were activated, warning the engineers that the specified vibration level had been exceeded, within 30sec of the trigger event. Heathside & Lethbridge Located on an occupied housing estate Heathside & Lethbridge is a 6 stage regeneration of an existing estate in Lewisham, which will transform the estate into a mixed tenure development of over 1200 high quality private and affordable homes, designed to Code level 4. Ardmore are Principal Contractors on Phase II of the scheme, comprising new build of a 17 storey building and associated smaller buildings to create 190 new homes, as well as associated infrastructure and a new entrance road for the estate. Vibration monitoring was installed during the demolition & piling phase to monitor and reduce disturbance to local occupants.

Description Each Vibradec logger is housed in an IP67 rated case which is weatherproof and powered by 4 standard D cell batteries, (with the option for 110/240 V supply or an external long-life battery). The Geophone sensors are protected by an extremely robust, specially designed Polyacetal Box. Vibradec loggers record vibration in PPV (Peak Particle Velocity). The logger is able to control a watchdog, 3-Tier level alarm system as well as send text messages to up to 4 mobile telephones when vibrations exceed a set limit. Data can be downloaded locally via a USB connection, and can also be sent by GPRS to a web server where the data can be accessed remotely via our website. This website can then be used to analyse the data in greater depth, plot graphs to detect any trends, download the data to a spreadsheet, and view the real-time, up-to-date data.
