9 Transmitter M Introduction Statement of Intended Use Te M800 multiparameter transmitter is a multi-cannel online process instrument for measuring various properties of fluids and gases. Tese include Conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen, O2 gas, Dissolved Ozone, ph / ORP and Flow. Te M800 is available in four different versions. Te version indicates te amount of measurement parameters wic can be covered and te kind of parameter. Te version are indicated troug tere part numbers on te label of te transmitter. A colored touc screen conveys measuring data and setup information. Te menu structure allows te operator to modify all operational parameters by using te touc screen. A menu-lockout feature, wit password protection, is available to prevent te unautorized use of te meter. Te M800 Multiparameter transmitter can be configured to use up to eigt analog and / or up to eigt relay outputs for process control. Te M800 Multiparameter transmitter is equipped wit a USB communication interface. Tis interface provides up- and download capabilities of te transmitter configuration via a Personal Computer (PC). Tis description corresponds to te firmware release, version 1.0 for te transmitter M800 Water 2-cannel, M800 Process 2-cannel, M800 Water 4-cannel and M800 Process 4-cannel. Canges are taking place constantly, witout prior notification.

10 Transmitter M Safety instructions Tis manual includes safety information wit te following designations and formats. 2.1 Definition of equipment and documentation symbols and designations a a a WARNING: POTENTIAL FOR PERSONAL INJURY. CAUTION: possible instrument damage or malfunction. NOTE: Important operating information. On te transmitter or in tis manual text indicates: Caution and / or oter possible azard including risk of electric sock (refer to accompanying documents) Te following is a list of general safety instructions and warnings. Failure to adere to tese instructions can result in damage to te equipment and / or personal injury to te operator. Te M800 Transmitter sould be installed and operated only by personnel familiar wit te transmitter and wo are qualified for suc work. Te M800 Transmitter must only be operated under te specified operating conditions (see capter 14 Specifications ). Repair of te M800 Transmitter must be performed by autorized, trained personnel only. Wit te exception of routine maintenance, cleaning procedures or fuse replacement, as described in tis manual, te M800 Transmitter must not be tampered wit or altered in any manner. Mettler-Toledo accepts no responsibility for damage caused by unautorized modifications to te transmitter. Follow all warnings, cautions, and instructions indicated on and supplied wit tis product. Install equipment as specified in tis instruction manual. Follow appropriate local and national codes. Protective covers must be in place at all times during normal operation. If tis equipment is used in a manner not specified by te manufacturer, te protection provided by it against azards may be impaired. a WARNINGS: Installation of cable connections and servicing of tis product require access to sock azard voltage levels. Main power and relay contacts wired to separate power source must be disconnected before servicing. Switc or circuit breaker sall be in close proximity to te equipment and witin easy reac of te OPERATOR; it sall be marked as te disconnecting device for te equipment. Main power must employ a switc or circuit breaker as te disconnecting device for te equipment. Electrical installation must be in accordance wit te National Electrical Code and / or any oter applicable national or local codes.

11 Transmitter M NOTE: RELAY CONTROL ACTION te M800 transmitter relays will always de-energize on loss of power, equivalent to normal state, regardless of relay state setting for powered operation. Configure any control system using tese relays wit fail-safe logic accordingly. NOTE: PROCESS UPSETS Because process and safety conditions may depend on consistent operation of tis transmitter, provide appropriate means to maintain operation during sensor cleaning, replacement or sensor or instrument calibration. NOTE: Tis is a 4-wire-product wit an active 4 20 ma analog output. Please do not supply to terminal 3 to 10 of TB1 and terminal 1 to 8 of TB Correct disposal of te unit Wen te transmitter is finally removed from service, observe all local environmental regulations for proper disposal.

13 Transmitter M Display Start Screen After starting te M800, te following Start Screen (logout screen) is sown automatically. To return form te Menu Screen to te Start Screen press s. Te M800 will return automatically after 240 seconds from te Menu Screen or any configuration screen to te Start Screen if te user as not pressed te touc screen Activation Menu Screen Wile te M800 sows te Start Screen (logout screen) touc te display to activate te Menu Screen. To return to te Menu Screen from oter menus press H.

16 Transmitter M Navigating te Menu Tree To browse troug te menus, press te open arrows > and/or <. To access a menu touc te corresponding arrow c in te same line Exit a Menu Press p to exit te menu. Press H to return to te Menu Screen (see capter Menu Screen ) Confirm Data and Values Use te e key to confirm values. Press ESC and te values will not be taken over Return to te Menu Screen Press H to return to te Menu Screen (see capter Menu Screen ). To return form te Menu Screen to te Start Screen press s Entry of Data Te M800 displays a keypad for modifying values. Press te e button and te transmitter will take over te value. Press te ESC button to exit te keypad witout canging data. NOTE: For some value te unit can be modified. In tis case te keypad sows a button wit a u. To select anoter unit for te entered value on te keypad press te u button. To return again press te 0 9 button. NOTE: For some entries letters and/or numbers can be used. In tat case te keypad sows a button A,a,0. Press tis button to cange between capital letters, small letters and numbers on te keypad Selection Menus Some menus require a selection of a parameter / data. In tis case te transmitter displays a pop up window. Press te according field to select te value. Te pop window will be closed and te selection will be taken over Save canges Dialog If te M800 brings up te Save canges dialog tere are te follwoing options. No will discard te entered values, Yes will save canges made and Cancel will bring you back to continue configuring.

17 Transmitter M Security Passwords Te M800 transmitter allows a security lock-out of various menus. If te security lock-out feature of te transmitter as been enabled, a security password must be entered to allow access to te menu. See capter 8.14 User Management Display NOTE: In te event of an alarm or oter error condition te M800 Transmitter will display a flasing bar grap on te display. Tis bar grap will remain until te condition tat caused it as been cleared (see capter 12.1 Warning- and Alarm Indication). NOTE: During calibrations, clean, Digital In wit Analog Output / Relay / USB in Hold state, a flasing H (Hold) will appear in te upper rigt corner of te display for te corresponding cannel. Tis symbol will remain for 20 sec., after end of calibration. Tis symbol will remain for 20 seconds until after te calibration or clean is completed. Tis symbol will also disappear wen Digital In is deactivated.

18 Transmitter M Installation instruction 4.1 Unpacking and inspection of equipment Inspect te sipping container. If it is damaged, contact te sipper immediately for instructions. Do not discard te box. If tere is no apparent damage, unpack te container. Be sure all items sown on te packing list are present. If items are missing, notify Mettler-Toledo immediately Panel cutout dimensional information Below are cut-out dimensions required by te transmitter wen mounted witin a flat panel or on a flat enclosure door. Tis surface must be flat and smoot. Textured or roug surfaces are not recommended and may limit te effectiveness of te gasket seal provided. 19 Transmitter M Installation procedure General: Orient te transmitter so tat te cable grips face downward. Wiring routed troug te cable grips sall be suitable for use in wet locations. In order provide IP66 enclosure ratings, all cable glands must be in place. Eac cable gland must be filled using a cable, or suitable Cable Gland Hole Seal. For Pipe Mount: Use only manufacturer-supplied components for pipe-mounting te M800 transmitter and install per te supplied instructions. 21 Transmitter M Connection of power supply All connections to te transmitter are made on te inside of all models. a Be sure power to all wires is turned off before proceeding wit te installation A tree-terminal connector on TB6 of all M800 models is provided for power connection. All M800 models are designed to operate from a VDC or a 100 to 240 VAC power source. Refer to specifications for power requirements and ratings and size power wiring accordingly (16 24 AWG, wire cross-section between 0.2 mm 2 and 1.5 mm 2 ). Te terminal block for power connections is labeled TB6 on te rear panel of te transmitter. One terminal is labeled N (-) for te Neutral wire and te oter L (+) for te Line (or Load) wire. For DC power, use te polarity sown in parenteses. Te terminals are suitable for single wires and flexible leads wit a wire cross-section from 0.2 mm 2 up to 1.5 mm 2, (16 24 AWG).

Tese sensors require different wiring configurations. Listed below are instructions for wiring te various types of sensors offered by Mettler-Toledo THORNTON for use wit tis transmitter. Please consult te factory for assistance if attempting to wire sensors not offered by Mettler-Toledo Tornton as some sensors may not be compatible Flow Sensor Input Wiring Kit Tis kit contains components tat may be needed at input terminals to condition sensor signals. Refer to te following sections or to te instruction manual for wiring details.

26 Transmitter M Kit Contents Tis kit contains te following items: 4x Wire nuts 4x 10K om resistors for use wit Burket 8020 and 8030 type sensors, and GF Signet 2500-series sensors. 4x 1K om resistors for use wit Data Industrial 200-series and Fluidyne insertion type sensors. 4x 0.33uF, 50 V capacitors for use wit Berket 8020 and 8030 type sensors, Data Industrial 200-series and 4000-series sensors, GF Signet 2500-series sensors, Sanitary Turbine-Type sensors, Fluidyne insertion type sensors and Racine Federated (Formerly Asai/America) vortex-style sensors Flow sensor wiring for Compatible Sensors Te following sections provide wiring information to properly connect various compatible flow sensors to te M800 transmitter. Wen using te Configuration menu of te transmitter to setup te flow sensor, te first prompt asks to select te TYPE of flow sensor being connected. Tere are tree coices as follows: Hig: All flow sensors described in Section Low: P515 Signet flow sensors only, described in section Type 2: Asai flow sensors, described in Section Wiring for HIGH type flow sensors Te following wiring information is used wen connecting (Burkert 8020 and 8030 type) inline Hall effect 5VDC, flow sensors. 45 Transmitter M One-Point Calibration A one-point calibration of oxygen sensors is always eiter a one point slope (i.e. wit air) or a zero (offset) calibration. A one point slope calibration is done in air and a one point offset calibration is done at 0 ppb oxygen. A one-point zero dissolved oxygen calibration is available but not normally recommended since zero oxygen is very ard to acieve. A zero-point calibration is only recommended if ig accuracy at low oxygen level (below 5% air) is needed. Coose Slope or Offset calibration troug pressing te corresponding field. Te most common metod of calibration for flow sensors is to enter te calibration constants appropriate for te sensor using te Edit function. Some users may coose to perform an in-line calibration using a 1-point or 2-point Sensor flow calibration. Tis requires an external reference system. Wen performing an in-line calibration on a flow sensor, results will vary depending on te metods and calibration apparatus used to perform te calibration. As te five digit number is increased te output current increases and as te number is decreased te output current decreases. Tus coarse canges in te output current can be made by canging te tousands or undreds digits and fine canges can be made by canging te tens or ones digits. 60 Transmitter M % Rejection measurement For reverse osmosis (RO) applications, percent rejection is measured wit conductivity to determine te ratio of impurities removed from product or permeate water to te total impurities in te incoming feed water. Te formula for obtaining Percent Rejection is: [1 (Product/Feed)] X 100 = % Rejection Were Product and Feed are te conductivity values measured by te respective sensors. Linear 25 C compensation adjusts te reading by a coefficient or factor expressed as %/ C (deviation from 25 C). Use only if te solution as a well-caracterized linear temperature coefficient. Te factory default setting is 2.0% / C. Linear 20 C compensation adjusts te reading by a coefficient or factor expressed as %/ C (deviation from 20 C). Use only if te solution as a well-caracterized linear temperature coefficient. Te factory default setting is 2.0% / C. Glycol.5 compensation matces te temperature caracteristics of 50% etylene glycol in water. Compensated measurements using tis solution may go above 18 Mom-cm. Glycol1 compensation matces te temperature caracteristics of 100% etylene glycol. Compensated measurements may go well above 18 Mom-cm. Cation compensation is used in power industry applications measuring te sample after a cation excanger. It takes into account te effects of temperature on te dissociation of pure water in te presence of acids.

63 Transmitter M Alcool compensation provides for te temperature caracteristics of a 75% solution of isopropyl alcool in pure water. Compensated measurements using tis solution may go above 18 Mom-cm. Ammonia compensation is used in power industry applications for specific conductivity measured on samples using ammonia and/or ETA (etanolamine) water treatment. It takes into account te effects of temperature on te dissociation of pure water in te presence of tese bases. NOTE: If compensation mode Linear 25 C or Linear 20 C as been cosen, te coefficient for te adjustment of te reading can be modified. In tis case an additional input field will be displayed. Press te input field for Coef. and adjust te coefficient or factor for te compensation ph Settings If a ph sensor is connected to te selected cannel wile during te cannel setup (see capter Cannel Setup ) Auto as been cosen te parameters Buffer Tab, Stability, IP, STC and calibration temperature as well as te displayed units for slope and/or zero point can be set or adjusted. Te same parameters will be displayed if during te cannel setup not Auto but ph/orp as been set. Select te buffer troug te parameter Buffer Tab. IP is te isotermal point value (Default = for most applications). For specific compensation requirements or non standard inner buffer value, tis value can be canged. Adjust te value of te parameter STC ph/ C. STC is te solution temperature coefficient in units of ph / C referenced to te defined temperature. (Default = ph/ C for most applications). For pure waters, a setting of ph / C sould be used. For low conductivity power plant samples near 9 ph, a setting of ph / C sould be used. If te value for STC is ph/ C an additional input field for te reference temperature will be displayed. Te value for ph Ref Temperature indicates to wic temperature te solution temperature compensation is referenced. Te displayed value and te output signal is referenced to tis temperature. Most common reference temperature is 25 C.

Te polarization voltage of amperometric oxygen sensors in te measuring mode can be modified troug te parameter UpolMeas. For entered values 0 mv to 550 mv te connected sensor will be set to a polarization voltage of 500mV. If te entered value is less ten 550 mv, te connected sensor will set to a polarization voltage of 674 mv. Te polarization voltage of amperometric oxygen sensors for calibration can be modified troug te parameter UpolCal. For entered values 0 mv to 550 mv te connected sensor will be set to a polarization voltage of 500mV. If te entered value is less ten 550mV, te connected sensor will set to a polarization voltage of 674mV. NOTE: During a process calibration, te polarization voltage UpolMeas, defined for te measuring mode, will be used. NOTE: If a one point calibration is executed, te transmitter sends te polarization voltage, valid for te calibration, to te sensor. If te polarization voltage for te measuring mode and calibration mode is different, te transmitter will wait 120 seconds before starting te calibration. In tis case te transmitter will also go after te calibration for 120 seconds to te HOLD Mode, before returning to te measuring mode again.

Te same parameters will be displayed if during te cannel setup not Auto but Optical O2 as been set. Enter te value for te calibration pressure troug te parameter CalPressure. Press te button Option for te parameter ProcPress and select te ow to get applying process pressure troug pressing te according button in te line Type. Te applied process pressure can be entered by coosing Edit or measured over te analog input of te M800 by coosing AIN_1. If Edit as been cosen an input field for entering te value manually is displayed on te screen. In case tat AIN_1 as been selected two input fields are displayed to enter te start value (4mA) and te end value (20 ma) of te range for te 4 to 20 ma input signal. For te algoritm of te process calibration te applied pressure as to be defined. Select te pressure troug te parameter ProcCal. For te process calibration te value of te process pressure (ProcPress) and te value of te calibration pressure (CalPress) can be used. Select between Scaling and Calibration for te process calibration. If Scaling as been cosen, te calibration curve of te sensor will be untouced, but te output signal of te sensor will be scaled. In case of calibration value <1%, te offset of te sensor output signal will be modified during scaling, for value >1% te slope of te sensor output will be adjusted. For furter information about scaling refer to te sensor manual. Selecting te required Stability of te measuring signal during te calibration procedure. Coose Manual if te user will decide wen a signal is stable enoug to complete te calibration. Select Auto and an automatic stability control of te sensor signal during calibration troug te transmitter will be done. Additional settings can be done by navigating to te next page of te menu. Te Salinity of te measured solution can be modified. In addition te relative umidity (button Rel.Humidity) of te calibration gas can also be entered. Te allowed values for relative umidity are in te range 0% to 100%. Wen no umidity measurement is available, use 50% (default value). Adjust te required Sample Rate of te optical sensor during measurement. Te time interval from one measuring cycle of te sensor to te next can be adjusted i.e. adapted to te application. A iger value will increase te life time of te OptoCap of te sensor. Select te LED Mode of te sensor. Tere are te following options. Off: LED is permanently switced off. On: LED is permanently switced on. Auto: Te LED is switced on as long as te measured media temperature is smaller ten Toff (see next value) or switced off troug a digital input signal (see capter 8.9 Digital Inputs ). NOTE: If te LED is switced off, no oxygen measurement is performed. Enter te limit for te measuring temperature to switc off te LED of te sensor automatically by te M800 troug te parameter Toff.

Bi-Linear will also prompt for a scaling value for te mid-point of te signal and allows two different linear segments between te minimum and maximum scaling limits. Press te button for te Min Value, tat corresponds wit start point of te analog output range. Press te button for te Max Value, tat corresponds wit end point of te analog output signal. Depending on te cosen Aout type additional values can be entered. Bi-Linear will also prompt for a scaling value for te Mid Value of te signal and allows two different linear segments between te defined Min and Max Values. Auto-Range scaling provides two ranges of output. It is designed to work wit a PLC to provide a wide measurement range at te ig end of te scale, and a narrower range wit ig resolution at te low end. Two separate settings are used, one for te maximum limit of te ig range and one for te maximum limit of te low range, for te single 0/4-20 ma signal. Max1 is te maximum limit of te low range on auto-range. Te maximum value for te ig range on auto-range is set wit te Max Value. Bot ranges ave te same minimum value tat is set troug Min Value. If te input value is iger ten value of Max1, te transmitter switces automatically to te second range. To indicate te currently valid range a relay can be assigned. Te relay will be switced if te transmitter canges from on range to te oter. Te Type of te setpoint can be Hig, Low, Between, Outside or Off. An Outside setpoint will cause an alarm condition wenever te measurement goes above its ig limit or below its low limit. A Between setpoint will cause an alarm condition to occur wenever te measurement is between its ig and low limits. NOTE: If te type of set point is not Off additional settings can be done. See te following description. According to te selected type of setpoint, value(s) regarding te limit(s) can be entered. Additional settings can be done by navigating to te next page of te menu. Once configured a relay could be activated if a sensor Out of Range condition is detected on te assigned input cannel. To select te desired relay tat will be activated if te defined conditions are reaced press te input field in te line for te setting of SP Relay. If te cosen relay is used for anoter task, te transmitter sows te message on te screen tat tere is a Relay Conflict. Te operation mode of te relay can be defined. Relay contacts are in normal mode until te associated setpoint is exceeded, ten te relay is activated and te contact states cange. Select Inverted to reverse te normal operating state of te relay (i.e. normally open contacts are in a closed state, and normally closed contacts are in an open state, until te setpoint is exceeded). Enter te Delay time in seconds. A time delay requires te setpoint to be exceeded continuously for te specified lengt of time before activating te relay. If te condition disappears before te delay period is over, te relay will not be activated. Enter te Hysteresis as a percentage-value. A ysteresis value requires te measurement to return witin te setpoint value by a specified percentage before te relay is deactivated. For a ig setpoint, te measurement must decrease more tan te indicated percentage below te setpoint value before te relay is deactivated. Wit a low setpoint, te measurement must rise at least tis percentage above te setpoint value before te relay is deactivated. For example, wit a ig setpoint of 100, wen tis value is exceeded, te measurement must fall below 90 before te relay is deactivated. Enter te relay Hold Mode of Off, Last Value or On. Te Adaptive Calibration Timer (ACT) estimates wen te next calibration sould be performed to keep te best possible measurement performance. Te timer is influenced by significant canges on te DLI parameters. Te ACT will be reset to is initial value after a successful calibration. Te menu AutoClave Cycle Limit will also be displayed if during te cannel setup not Auto but one of te mentioned sensors as been set. Press te button AutoClave Cycle Limit. If te values falls below 20% of te initial value te bar grap canges from green to yellow color. If te value falls below 10% te color canges to red. NOTE: For Optical DO sensors TTM does not exist. Temperature button and te information about te maximum temperature, tat te connected sensor as ever seen, togeter wit a time stamp of tis maximum is displayed. Tis value is stored on te sensor and cannot be canged. During autoclaving te max. temperature is not recorded. If te data set of te factory calibration as been cosen, on page 1, te date and time of te calibration, te conductivity calibration constants, and reference conductivity values used to calibrate are displayed. On page 2, te same values for temperature are sown. Press e to exit te menu Cal Data. 93 Transmitter M Troublesooting If te equipment is used in a manner not specified by Mettler-Toledo, te protection provided by te equipment may be impaired. Review te table below for possible causes of common problems: Problem Display is blank. Incorrect measurement readings. Measurement readings not stable. Possible Cause No power to M800. Blown fuse. Hardware failure. Sensor improperly installed. Incorrect units multiplier entered. Temperature compensation incorrectly set or disabled. Sensor or transmitter needs calibration. Sensor or patc cord defective or exceeds recommended maximum lengt. Hardware failure. Sensors or cables installed too close to equipment tat generates ig level of electrical noise. Recommended cable lengt exceeded. Averaging set too low. Sensor or patc cord defective. Displayed red or yellow bar grap is flasing. Setpoint is in alarm condition (setpoint exceeded). Alarm as been selected (see capter 8.6 ISM / Sensor Alarm ) and occurred. Cannot cange menu settings. User locked out for security reasons Warning- and Alarm Indication Warning Indication It will be indicated troug a yellow bar grap on te display if tere are conditions, tat ave generate a warning. If te corresponding cannel is sown on te current Menu Screen or Start Screen (see capter 3.2 Display ) te yellow bar grap is displayed in te line wit te name of te cannel. A warning message will be recorded and can be selected troug te menu Messages (PATH: H\ISM\Messages; see also capter 9.2 Messages ). If a cannel, tat is not sown on te current Menu Screen or Start Screen is concerned by a warning, a yellow bar grap is displayed on te ead line of te display.
