Preliminary results of propagation of several cherry rootstocks by green cuttings Daina Feldmane 1, Madalina Butac 2, Valentina Pole 1, Imants Missa 1 Latvia State Institute of Fruit-Growing 1, Research Institute for Fruit Growing Pitesti, Romania 2 1
Introduction Sour cherries (P. cerasus L.) have valuable traits as rootstocks for sweet cherry cultivars: more tolerant to wet soils, less vigorous trees, good fruit size, improved winterhardiness. The aim of the study was to find effective method for rooting and growing of green cuttings of sour cherry Latvijas Zemais and of cherry rootstock P7. 2
Materials and methods 3
Rootstocks: - Latvijas Zemais (Prunus cerasus L.), several clones - P7 (P. padus L. x (P. cerasus L. x P. avium L.)) Green cuttings were prepared in June and in June Dipped in the solution of rooting stimulators from to 8.00 o clock next morning (15 hours) - IBA 50 ml/ L (control) - Vitmin 10 ml /L - contains biologically active compounds (auxines, aminoacids, gibberellins, cytokinins) produced by some microorganisms (Pseudomonas spp., Azotobacter spp. etc.). - IBA 25 ml/l for P7 Planted - in peat substrate + perlite (control) - in peat substrate + perlite + Trihodermin (contains the cells of Trichoderma harizanum Rifai, stimulates growth, prevents diseases) 4
Grown in greenhouse with automatic air moistening and floor heating system Fertilized with - VITO Universal (control) N:P:K = 3,5 : 2,3 : 5 + microelements - Kelpak (extract of sea weeds Ecklonia maxima) N: P: K = 3,6 : 8,2: 7,2 + microelements + plant hormons Potted from 6th to 11th August (maxresdefault.jpg) 5

1 st 2 nd 3 rd During the potting - classified as 1st, 2nd,3rd categrory - counted, % calculated 7
Measurements at the end of vegetation season for the plants of 1st category: - the diameter of root neck, - shoot length, - shoot mass, - root mass. 8

Conclusions Floor heating in greenhouse increased output of rooted cuttings and of 1st category plants. Rooting stimulator Vitmin caused weaker root and shoot growth for rootstocks but advanced callus formation for Latvijas Zemais if compared to using of IBA 50 ml/l. Dipping of cuttings in solution of IBA 25 ml/l improved the rooting, and lastingly enhanced shoot and root growth for rootstock P7 if compared to using of IBA 50 ml/l. Enhanced rooting and growth was observed for several clones of Latvijas Zemais if Trihodermin was added to peat substratum. No significant differences were observed for rootstock growth depending on fertilizing with Kelpak or VITO Universal. 16
