6 THE HYBRID STELLAR SERIES Rutgers Introduction We are pleased to offer four dogwood hybrids developed by Dr. Elwin Orton and patented by Rutgers University. They are highly resistant to the common dogwood borer and have shown high field resistance to Discula, anthracnose. The floral period of each hybrid last about the same length of time as the Cornus florida (14-15 days) and all exhibit a period of floral display that is intermediate branched close to the ground than plants of Cornus florida and Cornus kousa. Cornus x Rutgan P.P.#7207 STELLAR PINK Very vigorous grower. The flower heads have rounded, overlapping bracts that are soft pink in color. The are sessile, nearly rounded to obviate with short, acute tip and tapered base. ** Cornus x Rutdan P.P.#7204 CELESTIAL Blooms four to six days after Ruth Ellen. At first the bracts form a deep cut and have a greenish tinge, but they flatten out and become fully white in a few days. The bracts are rounded, well textured, and slightly overlap.
