108 Social Housing Units Polígono Aeropuerto A Seville This project introduces an alternative to local regulations of land and town planning The 108 residential units are organized around a central void amidst three large-scale buildings Thus, the massing concentrates towards the borders giving way to a quality Maximum allowed heights offer a mixture of scales for a singular volume design The location of the dwellings has been chosen in order to comply with sustainability criteria that effectively ensure efficiency in the use of natural resources Lightning and ventilation facilities are available through alternating façades, also designed in an attempt to tone down the program Project is not public! m² Eddea Arquitectos Inmoavance SLU EDDEA From Seville, take the Autopista SE-30, exit at the "Salida 1 Sevilla Este" and head in the direction of Avenida de las ciencias 2

photo: Roland Halbe Oliver Kindergarten Calle de Antonio de Leyva Zaragoza The site is situated in a typically Spanish, present-day urban expansion, surrounded by uniform eight-storey residential buildings The small-scale intervention is dominated by a green sloping roof which relates to the topography of the adjacent park In contrast to the neighbouring buildings, it orientates itself by the dynamic of the direct surrounding The concept is built up on two focus points On one hand, there is the crucial connection to the landscape which does not only give the building its character but also strengthens the area interactively On the other hand, it concentrates on its function as a place for children and provides an individual approach for the different age groups and their special needs Consequently a variety of volumes are combined underneath a multiple-folded roof wherein spaces offer response to different usage There are wide open areas used for festivities and fairs as well as bespoke low areas specifically for the toddlers Project is not public! 5 Library and Community Centre Actur Norte Calle de Pedro Laín Entralgo Zaragoza This library and community centre in Zaragoza tries to conciliate the pedestrian within the urban grid The building seduces with a game of crossed views in an apparent blind prism The location offered an alignment retreat that was canalized in the entrance The building offers a break in the pedestrian route and an invitation to enter Internally, the building is comprehensible all the way to the inner courtyard Carroquino Finner Arquitectos Ayuntamiento de Zaragoza Almale 5
photo: Estudio Campo Baeza photo: Estudio Campo Baeza Caja Granada Carretera de Motril Granada In order to resolve the slope of the site and the ground floor level, a great base was created between the two highways that border the site upon which the cubic piece sits In this podium, parking and future additions are resolved The emerging, stereotomic, cubic box, is built of a reinforced concrete grid of 3 x 3 x 3 metres, which serves as a mechanism to collect light, the central theme of the architecture The two southern façades function as a 'brise-soleil',finely shading the potent light, and providing illumination to the areas of open offices The two northern façades, giving onto the individual offices, receive the homogeneous and continuous light characteristic of this orientation They are enclosed by stone and glass in horizontal bands The central interior courtyard, a true 'impluvium of light', gathers the solid southern light from the skylights and, reflected by the alabaster parameters, augments the illumination of the open offices photo: Estudio Campo Baeza Project is not public! m² Alberto Campo Baeza Caja Granada Scozia Bus: Lines 1 and 5 6
photo: Javier Callejas photo: Javier Callejas Museo de la Memoria de Andalucía en Granada Calle de José Luís Pérez Pujadas Granada This complex consists of a massive vertical building and a lower part with a central patio in ellipsoidal form in which some circular ramps connect the three levels The building measures 60m x 120m and is three storeys high, so that its upper floor coincides with that of the lower body of the podium of the adjacent Caja Granada building m² Alberto Campo Baeza Scozia photo: Javier Callejas 7
Kindergarten in Rosales del Canal Calle de Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky Zaragoza The Kindergarten is located in an area of residential growth in Zaragoza The basic unit is the classroom With a square ground plan, the truncated pyramid-shaped roofing of these spaces, completed with a skylight, responds both to the primary identification with the protective roof of the house and to the advantages of height and additional lighting in the classrooms The shape of the classrooms` roofing is repeated to cover spaces that occupy a larger area like the multipurpose hall and the dining-room The general configuration responds to clearly organisational criteria, placing the classrooms around the patio, with service spaces situated between them and communicated on the inside with the corridor and on the outside with the patio, via a continuous exterior porch The lobby, the multipurpose hall and an administrative area comprised of the reception Modular and dry-joint systems were considered appropiate due to the need for the construction to be done in four months m² Magen Arquitectos Government of Aragon MAGENARQUITECTOS 8
Canoe's Landscape Off C Zahara de la Sierra Zahara de la Sierra is a small village in the south of It is situated on the slopes of a hill, its white houses densely stacked together At the bottom of the hill, a water reservoir with a concrete dam can be found The town council has plans to construct a recreation area next to the water reservoir The landscape in this area is formed by small white houses, their sizes and forms derived from the small sizes of the plots in this area This building for storing canoes is built as another white point (pixel) in the landscape Three lines dictated the design of the building and the situation of the site: the narrow road leading from the motorway to the embankment, the electrical aerial line (electrical installation) crossing above the site and the water level which can suddenly rise (when it rains a lot, the reservoir can fill up quickly) m², Artist, Interior architect, Landscape architect, Urban planner Julio Barreno juliobarreno 9
photo: Pedro Pegenaute Environmental Unit Headquarters Paseo Echegaray y Caballero Zaragoza The project is based on two fundamental ideas The first idea is in response to the special urban and landscape importance of the location; the second aims to express the intrinsic relationship between the environmental commitment of the project and its materiality and the building programme The relationship with the adjacent urban spaces and the topographic features of the site become active conditions for the implementation of the building; it can clearly be seen in the project section that also expresses the extension of the public space of the entrance, via the roof and the configuration of the building as a platform-viewpoint onto the Ebro river The roof is an essential element within the landscape design of the building as well as the main image of the building It is configured as a viewpoint at different levels, which are joined together by gentle ramps and a terraced grandstand, designed as an outdoor amphitheatre for possible recreational uses m² Magen Arquitectos Municipality of Zaragoza MAGENARQUITECTOS 10
Nursery in the park Paseo de Echegaray y Caballero s/n Zaragoza Located on Echegaray and Caballero Avenue, within the current San Pablo Park and in the proximities of the Ebro river, the school is situated in a suitable environment to collect the kids meeting with the education All the Ebro banks locations must consider the channel fluctuations and adapting the construction way to the most restrictive position, and placing the base of the building above the flood level that would be in five hundred years (T-500) The plan is built respecting the size of the arboreal species and integrating them in its development, through courtyards and laying out the access and courtyard with the nature It shows all in a deep respect for the environment, as one of the teaching values to the children as new members of our society The scale of the housing blocks of Echegaray and Caballero Avenue, as well as their location on a depression area compared to the elevation of the avenue, the next Europa Square, make the cover the most visible surface of the building m² Main designer, Contractor Structural engineer santiago carroquino arquitectos Grávalos & Di Monte arquitectos Construcciones Enrique De Luis (CELSA) Raúl de la Mata Ayuntamiento de Zaragoza, Almale 11
photo: Pedro Pegenaute 44 social housing Calle del Canal de Tauste Tauste The definition of the interior public space is able to generate connections with the pre-existing buildings in the surrounding and to provide with attractive transition spaces To deal with the urban character of the city block two restrictions are proposed: the first one is to fit the garage of the semi basement floor in the same width as the other floors, renouncing the allowed highest occupation, in order not to reduce the dimensions of the public space; the second one is to free a big porch at the north side, under the building, which relates the interior space with the pre-existence green space The determining factors (topography, economic limitations) of the project are converted into the formal arguments of the building by means of an abstract language based on horizontal levelled black and white strips This composition gives a certain horizontal dynamism to the volume of the block The detail between the building and the floor is resolved with panels of white limestone Project is not public! m² Magen Arquitectos Suelo y Vivienda de Aragon MAGENARQUITECTOS 12
photo: Dirk Verwoerd photo: Dirk Verwoerd Avenue of Europe Expo '92 Calle Isaac Newton Seville The European Union, and Nations of the European Union were all located along the Avenue of Europe, which featured twelve massive white-coloured towers, and a central multi-coloured tower featuring the flags of the (then) twelve nations of the European Union which underground hosted the European Union Pavilion itself The rest of the Pavilions of the Union were located at the left and right flank of the Avenue Its design explores reminiscent gardens at the Alhambra in Granada The towers are equipped with micronizers to evaporate water and absorb the heat of the Andalusian day photo: Dirk Verwoerd Public access unknown! 1992 Nicolas Normier & Jean Marie Hennin stef_mimoa 13
