19 Priorities CITY OF BEERLY HILLS LA CIENEGA PARK AND RECREATION COMPLEX MASTER PLAN OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES A desire to linger, not leave Open green space Relaxation Faily space Age appropriate play areas / structures and zones Better availability of field schedule inforation Less field restrictions and iproved availability of fields for unscheduled / unstructured play Future Uses The following outcoes reain preliinary. They are not quantified nuerically at this tie due to continued work consolidating survey results (which are still being received) and quantifying / coding outcoes fro the various Progra activities. The following are therefore presented in general ters and in a general priority (to be clarified in the subsequent final report). for the Duplicate Bridge Club and Preschool / Youth Education. Additional prevailing desires include indoor sports facilities and facilities for educational classes as well as for art, theater, dance, and usic. 4.Shade and Green Space An overwheling ajority of participants desire expanded opportunities for shade both as part of iproved play structures (see below) and for general, passive recreational use. Siilarly and not necessarily to the expense of the needs for organized sports and associated field prograing, an overwheling nuber of participants desire and support ore passive, available open space. There is a strong sentient for an ability to relax and have unstructured space to use. 5.Iproved Play Structures /Playground Siilar to #4, there is a very strong sentient that the LCP needs iproved playground structures that are located in discrete locations to accoodate different age groups separately such that the safety of youngest children is not at risk, and that also allows parents visual access to view different aged children in different locations. Highest Priority Desired Ites! Facilities. Public Pool 2. Basketball Courts 3. Updated Counity Center 4. Shade and Green Space 5. Iproved Play Structures Playground / 6. Iproved Restroos 7. Expanded Duplicate Bridge Club Facilities 8. Iproved Parking 9. Dog Park. Water Feature.Public Pool While strong opinions exist pro/con about a pool due to location, size, cost, ters of use and long range aintenance, a public pool is the single ore desired ite fro all Progra outcoes. There is overwheling dissatisfaction with the condition of the High School pool, and the experience of using it for passive recreational and organized purposes. 2.Basketball Courts The second ost prevalent desired ite is one or ore basketball courts, either in an outdoor condition and/or as part of a larger, indoor gynasiu-type facility that would potentially be co-located with an updated Counity Center (see below). 6.lproved Restroos A siilar overwheling ajority of participants are particularly dissatisfied with the condition of the current restroos. In any cases (particularly by parents), the condition of the restroos is the single biggest deterinant as to how little tie they spend at LCP. Parents (and others) are significantly concerned about hygiene and safety associated with current restroos. 7.Expanded Duplicate Bridge Club Facilities The Duplicate Bridge Club has hundreds of residents and visitors that participate on a daily basis in ultiple Bridge atches. The users and organizers of the club desire expanded and iproved facilities to accoodate current and ideally expanded nubers of users cofortably. 8.lproved Parking A general concern raised by any participants is the current and future accessibility of LCP due to parking. Ideas for iproved conditions ranged however due to different perspectives about how future transportation odes will affect park use and parking needs (e.g. ride share, ass transit, personal non-auto transport, etc.). That said, any participants hope that the City can regain uch of the parking in the existing parking garage currently leased to private interests, and to consider different access / egress points to the garage to iniize traffic ipacts and lost tie. 9.Dog Park A significant nuber of participants (particularly through the Survey) express a desire for another City Dog Park to be included in a revised LCP. O.Water Feature I Water Play A significant nuber of participants seek soe type of water feature / water play as a eans to enhance one or both of the following experiences: ) play opportunities for youth, 2) passive relaxation and conteplation. 3.Updated Counity Center Essentially tied with Basketball Courts is an extensive desire for a new, significantly expanded Counity Center. Different participants have different needs fro such a facility but collectively, people hope for soeplace that is flexible and technologically advanced to accoodate different uses, and provides expanded facilities JOHNSON FAARO Deceber 5, 28 4
