3 1.0Introduction HydroTurf AdvancedRevetmentTechnologyisapatentedsystemwhichisusedasahardened armoring for protection against erosion from hydraulic forces. The soil subgrade shall be smooth and uniform, and shall be substantially free of surfaceirregularitiesandprotrusions. Thesoilsurfaceshallbefreeofforeignandorganicmaterial,sharpobjects,particles orotherdeleteriousmaterial,andshallnotcontainstonesorotherobjectsthatcould damageanyofthehydroturf components. Maximumparticlesize(e.g.stones)shallbespecifiedbythedesignandsiteHspecific specifications. Theanchortrenchesshallbepreparedasfollows: - Anchortrenchesshallbeexcavatedtothegradesanddimensionsasspecifiedon theconstructionplans.thegradesanddimensionsshallbeconfirmedbysurvey. - Anchortrenchesshallbestraightanduniformwithnoroughedges. - Theinsideedgeoftheanchortrenchshallberoundedandsmooth. - Anchortrenchesshallbefreeofsharpobjectsandotherdeleteriousmaterial. Constructionstakesandhubshavebeenremovedandtheresultantholeshavebeen backfilled. Finalgradesontheslopesaswellasbenchesdimensionsandgradesconformtothe designgrades. Survey shots and ashbuilt drawings shall be carefully reviewed and evaluated to ensurethesurfacegradeswilldrainasintendedinthedesigndrawings. 5

6 4.0GeomembraneLinerComponent(HydroTurf CSonly) InstallationoftheGeomembraneHDPELinermustbecompletedbyanapprovedgeosynthetics contractorwhocandemonstratesignificantexperiencewithinstallationofgeomembranes.each componentofthehydroturf systemwillrequirespecifictestingandsubmittalsbefore,duringor afterinstallationofthecomponent.itistheresponsibilityofthecontractortoensurethateach priorcomponentinstallationhasbeenapprovedbytheowner srepresentativebeforecontinuing withinstallationofthenexthydroturf component. 4.1GeomembranePanelDeployment EngineershallensurethatallPreHInstallationprocedureshavebeenfollowedbeforeproceeding withdeploymentofgeomembrane.asgeomembranecomponentpaneldeploymentproceeds, theengineerandthegeosyntheticscontractorshall: Ensure the geomembrane component is placed in direct and uniform contact with underlyingprotectivecoversoilorsubgradesoil. Observethegeomembranesurfaceasitisdeployedandrecordpaneldefectsand repairofthedefects(e.g. panel rejected, patch installed,etc.) onthe repair sheet. Repairsmustbemadeinaccordancewiththetechnicalspecificationsandlocatedon arepairdrawing. Supportequipmentisnotallowedonthegeomembranecomponentduringhandling unlessapprovedbydesignengineer. Confirmthatthesurfacebeneaththegeomembranecomponenthasnotdeteriorated sincepreviousacceptance. Confirmthattherearenostones,constructiondebris,soilclogsorotherdeleterious itemsonthesubgradethatcouldcausedamagetothegeomembranecomponent. The geomembrane component shall not be dragged across a surface that could damage the material. If the geomembrane component is dragged across an unprotectedsurface,it mustbeinspectedfordamage andrepairedorrejected,as necessary. The geomembrane component shall not be deployed during inclement weather conditionsasdefinedintheprojectspecificspecifications. Personnel working on the geomembrane component shall not smoke, wear boots/shoes that could damage the HydroTurf system components, or engage in activitiesthatcoulddamagethehydroturf systemcomponents. Themethodusedtodeploythegeomembraneshallminimizeripplesandeliminate wrinkles but does not cause bridging, and that the geomembrane is anchored to preventliftingormovementbythewind(geosyntheticscontractorisresponsiblefor any damage to or from windblown geomembrane). A wrinkle is a portion of the geomembrane that does not lay relatively flat and is not the result of a subgrade irregularity.awrinkleislargeenoughthatitcanbefoldedover.arippleistheresult of manufacturing or thermal expansion. It is smaller in nature than a wrinkle and cannotbefoldedover. The geomembrane component shall acclimate to the ambient temperature prior to welding. The ambient temperature is defined as the temperature of previously deployed and welded geomembrane panels. Additional acclimation time will be required when temperatures drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit and when solar heatingisreduced. 6

7 Afterthepanelhasacclimatedandbeforeseamingoperationsbegin,wrinkleswillbe worked toward the toe of slope. Excess material can be worked out either by manpowerorutilizationwithequipmenttopullexcessslackoutofthepanel. Thegeosyntheticscontractorshallapplytensiontechniquestopulloutexcessmaterial /slackpriortoseaming. The horizontal or cross seams on the side slopes shall be staggered so that long horizontalseamsacrosstheslopearenotproduced. 4.2GeomembraneFieldSeaming/Welding Geomembranefieldseamingandweldingoperationsshallbeperformedasfollows: Wedgeweldingmachinesshallbealowprofilemachinewithaverticalheighttonot exceed3inchestothehighestpointofthewedge.installershalldemonstratethat eachwedgeweldingmachinemeetsthisrequirement. Thegeosyntheticscontractorshallhavethenumberofweldingapparatusesandspare partsnecessarytoperformthework. EquipmentusedforweldingwillnotdamageanyHydroTurf systemcomponents. The extrusion welding machine is purged prior to beginning a weld until the heat degradedextrudateisremoved. Theambienttemperature,measured6inchesabovethegeomembranesurface,is between 35 F and 104 F, or geomembrane manufacturer s recommended temperaturelimitsiftheyaremorestringent. Thecontactsurfacesofthesheetsareclean,freeofdust,grease,dirt,debris,and moisturepriortowelding. Theweldissubstantiallyfreeofdust,soil/mud,rocks,andotherdebris. The seams are overlapped a minimum of 3 inches for extrusion and hot wedge welding, or in accordance with geomembrane manufacturer's recommendations, whicheverismorestringent. Panelsshallbeoverlapped(shingled)inthedowngradedirection. Nosolventsoradhesivesarepresentintheseamarea. The procedure used to temporarily hold the panels together does not damage the panelsanddoesnotprecludecqatesting. The panels are being welded in accordance with the plans and site specific specifications. Thereisnoobviousfreemoistureintheweldarea. Observethatattheendofeachdayorinstallationsegment,unseamededgesare anchoredwithsandbagsorotherapprovedanchoringdevice. Penetrationanchorsshallnotbeusedtosecurethegeomembrane. Becauseofwedgewelding, ridges or tenting oftheseamsmayoccur.aprocess called snapping must be employed to remove the excess slack caused by the weldingprocess. Oncetwopanelshavebeenseamedtogetherorattheapprox.1/3seamingprocess aseam snapping processshouldbeappliedbeforetheseamcoolsdown.this methodisperformedwithmanuallaborbyutilizing3h4techniciansontheopenside ofthepanelapplyingapullingpressuretosnapoutthetentedweldedseam. 7

8 Normally,thistechniquerequiresseveralpeoplelinedupalongtheopenseamatthe edgeofthegeomembraneandapplyingclampstotheedge.thepanelisthen snapped intopositionandwhenappliedproperly,theexcessslackisremoved. Thesnappingtechniquewillbeappliedwhiletheweldingseamisstillwarm. Sandbagsalongthewedgeweldedseamwillreducereboundtenting. The snapping requirementisimportantinthatitallowstheengineeredturf componenttoliemoreevenlyoverthegeomembranecomponent. 4.3Defects Anyportionofthegeomembranewithadetectedflaw,mustberepairedinaccordancewiththe projectspecifications(e.g.,materialrequirements,installation,testing,etc.). 5.0EngineeredTurfComponent(HydroTurf CSandZ) The installation of HydroTurf engineered turf consists of the placement and seaming of the engineeredturfcomponentoverthestructuredgeomembraneliner(hydroturf CS)oroverthe soilsubgrade(hydroturf Z). Boxtruckswilldeliverupto27rollsengineeredturfpertruck.Nine(9)rollswillbestrapped togetherallowingequipment(i.e.pickhuptruck,skidsteer)topullthestrappedrollstothefrontof thetruck.rollscanbemovedtoadesignatedareabyusingacarpetstingerorliftedbystraps. During unloading, the contractor and / or CQA personnel shall confirm that the following is practicedandperformed: Theengineeredturfiswrappedinrollswithprotectivecovering. Therollsarenotstackedmorethan3high. Therollsarenotdamagedduringunloading. Protect the engineered turf from damage (i.e., mud, soil, dirt, dust, debris, cutting, impactforces,etc.). Eachrollmustbemarkedortaggedwithproperidentification. Rollsthathavebeenrejectedduetodamagearetoberemovedfromthesiteorstored atalocationseparatefromacceptedrolls,designatedbytheowner/operator. 5.1SurfacePreparation(HydroTurf CS) PriortoinstallationofEngineeredTurf,thefollowingshallbecompleted: ThegeomembranecomponentoftheHydroTurf CShasbeeninstalledinaccordance withthesitespecificspecifications. The required geomembrane installation documentation has been completed and approvedbytheengineerpriortoinstallationoftheengineeredturf. Thesurfaceofthegeomembranedoesnotcontainsoil/mud,stones,debrisorlarge scrapsleftoverfromtheinstallationprocess. 8

9 5.2EngineeredTurfDeployment(HydroTurf CSandZ) EngineeredTurfshallbedeployedasfollows: Observetheengineeredturfasitisdeployedandrecorddefectsanddispositionofthe defects(panelrejected,patchinstalled,etc.).repairsaretobemadeinaccordance withthespecifications. Equipmentusedshallnotdamagetheengineeredturf,underlyinggeomembraneor subgradebyhandling,trafficking,leakageofhydrocarbons,orbyothermeans. Panelsshallbedeployedsuchthattheseamoverlapsareshingledwiththeflowof water.thepanelontheuphflow/upstreamsideshallhavetheoverlapplacedontop ofthedownhflow/downstreampanel. Thepanelsshallbedeployedinamannertoensurethattheturffilamentsare pointingupslopeandinthesamedirectionastheadjacentpanel. Theturfshallbeballastedontheopenendstopreventmovementbythewindorother means (the contractor is responsible for any resulting damage from insufficient ballast). Theturfshallremainfreeofcontaminantssuchassoil/mud,debris,grease,fuel,etc. Theturfshallbelaidsmoothandsubstantiallyfreeoftension(butnotloose),stress, folds,ripples/wrinkles,orcreases.thegeomembrane(forhydroturf CS)ortheturf (forhydroturf Z)shallbeinintimatecontactwiththeunderlyingsubgrade Onslopes,theturfshallbesecuredwithsandbaganchoringatthetopoftheslope andthenrolleddowntheslope. OnsmallersizedHydroTurfZprojects.Anchoringcanbetemporarilyperformed usinglandscapespikes(typically,galvanized3/8 diameterby8to10hinlength)and leftinplacethentheanchortrenchesbackfilled. 5.3 Engineered Turf Seaming H Fusion Seaming Method (HydroTurf CS and HydroTurf Z) SeamingoftheengineeredturfcomponentofHydroTurf CSandZmaybeperformedbyfusion (heathbond)welding.thisisdescribedasfollows: EngineeredTurffusionseamingdeviceshallbeaDemTech4Hinch,singleHwedge welderonly(modelno.vmh20/4/aprohwedgewelder120v,vm20outfittedwith 100HKIT/4S/VC/A.2WeldingKit,4Hin,220V,S.S.). Fusionseamsrequireaminimumof5inchesofoverlap. Priortostartingtheproductionfusionseaming,trialseamsmustbeperformedas outlinedinsection below. Demonstratethepreparationmethodsandequipmentutilizedforremovalofthe salvagefromtheoutsideedgeoftherollsofturf(i.e.trimming&cuttingdevices). Mechanicaltrimmingandcuttingdeviceswillbeutilizedforsalvagetrimming.Box bladesandknivesshallnotbeutilizedforsalvagepreparations.frayingofgeotextile strandswhenperformingtheremovalofsalvageisnotacceptable. Frayedorlooseedgesand/orgeotextilestrandswillbecutofforremoved. Productionfieldseamsshallbeperformedinthesamemannerastrialseams. 9

10 Anydamageand/orburnoutsthatoccurduetoproductionseamingwillberepaired asoutlinedin Anydamageoftheengineeredturfshallbepatchedasoutlinedin Allseamsnotpassingthevisualinspectionshallberepairedasoutlinedin FusionSeamingMethodTrialSeamRequirements SincethetemperatureandspeedcontrolsoftheDemTechVMH20machinearevariable andcanbeincreased/decreaseddependingonweatherandenvironmentconditions,the temperatureandspeedshallbeconfirmedwithatrialseam.thistrialseamshallbefield tested.trialseamsshallbeperformedatthebeingofeachdayandduringthedaywhen theweather(i.e.,temperature)conditionschange. 1. Priortoturfcomponentwelding,CQApersonnelshallobserveanddocumentthe following: a. Turfweldingapparatusaretested_ i. atdailystarthup_and ii. immediatelyafteranybreak_or iii. anytimethemachineisturnedoffformorethan30minutes. 2. Procedures: a. Theturftrialweldwillbecompletedunderconditionslikethoseunderthe panelsthatwillbewelded. b. Ifatanytime,theCQAPersonnelbelievethatanoperatororfusionwelding apparatus is not functioning properly, a Field Trial Seam Test shall be performed. c. Anydisputeconcerningproperinstallationtechniquesortheproperfunctionof fusion welding equipment will be resolved by the OWNER S REPRESENTATIVE. d. Thetrialweldmustbeallowedtocooltoambienttemperaturebeforeseam snappingorpaneladjustmentsareapplied. 3. TrialSampleTestResults: a. Trialweldsamplesmustcomplywith VISUALPASSINGCRITERIA Visual passingcriteriaisverifiedwhenamanualpeel/pulltestisperformedandthe topturfpaneltuftstransfertothebottomturfpanel.thetransferofapprox. 75%ofthetuftsconstitutesapassingtrialweld.Also,thetrialseamshallbe continuouswithnogaps. 4. ProductionFieldSeamTestFailure: a. Lessthanapprox.75%ofthetopturfpaneltuftsdonottransfertothebottom turfpanel. b. Productionfieldseamsshallbeobservedtobecontinuouswithnogaps. 5. AdditionalTrialSampleTestingRequirements: a. Twoconsecutivetrialweldsmeetthevisualpassingcriteria. b. Thetrialweldsamplemustbeaminimumof3feetlongand12incheswide, withtheseamcenteredlengthwise. c. Ifaweldingapparatusexceeds5hoursinthesecondhalfoftheday,another trialseammustbeperformed. 6. CQAdocumentationoftrialseamprocedureswillincludethefollowing: a. Thenamesoftheseamingpersonnel_ b. Thenameofthefusionseamingtechnician_ 10

11 c. theweldingapparatusnumber,time,date_ d. ambientairtemperature_and e. weldingapparatustemperature&speedsetting RepairsandTieHInsProceduresforEngineeredTurf(HydroTurf CSandZ) WhenRepairs,capsandtieHinsofengineeredturfareneeded,thefollowingshallbeperformed: Repairstoengineeredturfshallbecompletedbyusinga4HinoverlappedheatHbonded seam. AlltieHinseamsalongflatterslope(i.e.15%orless)withlengthgreaterthan25feet shallusethedemtechvmh20singlewedgewelder(outfittedwiththesyntheticturf weldingkit)soacontinuous,consistentpressureisachievedthroughouttheseam. AhandHheldheatgun(i.e.Leister)withhandpressureshouldbeusedinshorteror smallerconcentratedareas(i.e.,buttseams,capsorpatches). Handleisteringshallbefieldtestedwithatrialseamtoconfirmproperseamingprior toproductionseaming.trialseamingshallbeperformedinaccordancewithsection EquipmentonEngineeredTurf(HydroTurf CSandZ) Duringconstruction,ATVtypevehiclesand/orrubbertrackedskidsteermachineswillbeallowed onflatterslopesforinfillplacementiftheirgroundpressureislessthan5psi.noequipmentshall beallowedonslopesexceeding15%withoutinfillinplace.equipmentoperatorsshallinspect equipmentrubbertiresortracksforsharpprotrusionsfromforeignmatterortire/trackdamage, embedded rocks, or other foreign materials protruding from tires/track prior to driving on the syntheticturf.equipmenttravelpathsdrivenonsyntheticturfshallbeasstraightaspossiblewith no sharp turns, sudden stops or quick starts. Damage caused by having equipment on the engineeredsyntheticturf(i.e.,tears,rips,punctures,wrinkles,ripples,movement,etc.)shallbe theresponsibilityoftheinstallertorepair. Onceconstructionofthesystemiscomplete.NoequipmentshallbealloweduntilHydroBinder Infillisinplaceandfullycuredfor28days.Postconstructionandafter28daysofcuringofthe HydroBinder, drivability tire (ground) pressures on slopes greater than 10% should be limited systemtolessthan35psi.allowablerubbertireortrack(ground)pressuresonflatterareasmay increasetoasmuchas60psiaslongassustainedtrafficloadisnotexpected.drivingshouldbe limitedtoareaswherethesubgradeunderthehydroturf iswellhcompacted,firmandunyielding. Hightrafficareasshallbedesignedtohandletheexpectedloads. 6.0HydroBinder Infill(HydroTurf CSandZ) HydroBinder Infill is a dry, highhstrength cementitious mix. It is provided by Watershed GeosyntheticswiththeHydroTurfsystem.TheHydroBinder infillisplaceddry,groomedinto theengineeredsyntheticturfandhydratedafterplacement. WhentheHydroTurfsystemisinstalledandHydroBinder infillisplacedandhydrated,itcreates ahardenedrevetmentarmoringthatcanresisttheforcesfromhighhydraulicflowvelocities. 11

12 6.1PlacementofHydroBinderInfill(HydroTurfCSandZ) HydroBinder Infillshallbeplacedasfollows: HydroBinder isdeliveredtothejobsiteonpalletsineither3000#bulkbags(1per pallet)or80#bags(42perpallet).itisdeliveredonaflatbedwith16pallets(typical) pertruckload. TheHydroBinder shallbeinstalledintotheturfwhileitisinadrystate. PriortoplacingtheHydroBinder,theengineeredturfshallbedry.Iftheturfiswet fromrainordew,theinstallershallwaituntilitisdry.theinstallermayattemptto speedupthedryingprocessbyusingablower(i.e.,leafblower,industrialblower,etc.). HydroBindershallnotbeinstalledininclement,wetorrainyweather,orthethreatof inclement weather. Also, the HydroBinder shall not be installed in freezing temperatures. TheHydroBinder infillshallbeplacedataminimumthicknessof¾hin.thisthickness isachievedbyplacingapproximately6to7lbs/sfofthedryhydrobinder overthe engineeredturf. Theinfillistobeplaced/spreadusingamanualdropspreader,topHdresserand/or dropspreaderattachedtolowgroundpressureequipmentwithadequatedustcontrol. Manualhandspreadingisacceptablewhenequipmentisnotpractical. If weep holes are required for draining the internal drainage layer through the engineeredturf(hydroturf CS),removetheHydroBinder intheareasoftheweep holespriortohydrationorblocktheweepholelocationspriortoinfilling.blocksmay consistofpipe,dowels,etc.weepholesaretypically½to¾hindiameterandare locatedatthetoeofslopeon2hftcenters. 6.2BrushingoftheHydroBinderInfill(HydroTurf CSandZ) TheHydroBinder infillwillneedtobeworkedintothetuftedfibersoftheengineeredturfsuch thattheturffibersareinanuprightposition.thiscanbeachievedasfollows: Theinfillshallbeworkedintothetuftfibers,sothetuftfibersareinanuprightposition withtheinfillatameasurable7/8hinchminimumdrythicknessanda¾hinchminimum finishedthicknessafterhydrationandcuring.typically,thisisachievedwithcommon mechanicalturfbroom,powerbroom,shopbroom,yardrakes,and/orgreensgroomer rakes. Brushing of the HydroBinder infill shall be performed such that the fibers of the engineeredturfareuprightandtrappedfibersareminimal.thisshallbeconfirmedby visualinspection.multiplebrushingpassesinmultipledirectionsmayberequiredto achievethis. Depending on the turf tufted pile height and style (monofilament or slithtape). The HydroBinder mayneedtobeplacedin2to4liftswithbrushinginbetweenliftsto effectivelyworkthematerialintothetuftstoachievefibersthatareupright. ThicknessmeasurementsoftheHydroBinder infillshallbetakenusingacaliperor equivalent device. Measurements shall be taken at a minimum frequency of 5 measurementsper1,000sf(forsmallerprojects)or20measurementsperacre(for largerprojects)ofinstalledarea. The desired HydroBinder infill thickness shall be achieved prior to the hydration process. 12

13 6.3HydrationoftheHydroBinder Infill(HydroTurf CSandZ) TheHydroBinder infillshallbehydratedinplaceasfollows: The hydration process shall occur on the same day as the HydroBinder infill placement. Theinfillshallbehydratedthoroughlywithalightandconsistentsprayofwaterto avoiddisplacementofthenonhhydratedinfill.estimatedapplicationrateisbetween 0.12and0.20gallonspersquarefootofarea.Hydrationratesmayvarydependingon thegeographicallocation(i.e.lowhumidareas,dessertairclimates,etc.),timeofyear (i.e.,fall,winter,springorsummer),and/ortemperatureandclimate. Theinstallershallnotoverhydratetheinfillsothatwaterbeginstorunoffandcause lossofcementinfillduringtheprocess.thegeneralobjectiveistosoaktheareato startthehydrationprocessbutnottoinundatewithwaterbeyondsaturationoftheinfill. Visual verification can be performed that the HydroBinder infill has been fully hydrated,andnotoverhydrated.visuallyobservethatthetopofthehydrobinderhas awetsheen(denotingsaturation)butthatwaterisnotpondingontop.also,excavate (withfingerorsmalltool)intothehydrobinder toconfirmfullhydrationofthesection hasbeenachieved. Toimprovecuring,thehydratedareamaybecoveredwithplasticsheeting. The HydroBinder infill shall harden within 24 hours following hydration, and shall reach its maximum compressive strength at 28 days. If the HydroBinder has not hardenedin24hours,itmayneedtoberehhydratedoritmayneedtoberemovedand replaced. Personnel access on the HydroTurf shall be prohibited for 24Hhr following the hydrationofthehydrobinder. OncehydrationiscompletedandtheHydroBinder hassetup,backfillandcompaction oftheanchortrenchesmaybeperformed. 6.4ColdWeatherPlacementandCuringoftheHydroBinder Infill(HydroTurf CS andz) ColdweatherplacementandcuringtechniquesforHydroBinder shallbeconsistentwithindustry standard techniques used for concrete and cement products. The following guidelines are suggested: Follow the procedures in American Concrete Institute (ACI) 306 Guide to Cold WeatherConcreting. Coldweatherexistswhentheairtemperaturehasfallento,orisexpectedtofallbelow 40degreesFduringtheprotectionperiod. Theprotectionperiodisdefinedasthetimerequiredtopreventconcretefrombeing affectedbyexposuretocoldweather.protectionperiodforhydrobinderis72hours fromhydration. Ensurethatfrostorfrozensurfacesarethawedwithnostandingwater.Atthetimeof HydroBinderplacement,thesubgradeandsurfaceoftheengineeredturfshallbeata temperatureofatleast36degreesfandrising. Heatedtarpsand/orinsulatedblanketsarerequiredtomaintainthetemperatureofthe HydroBinderabove55degreesFfortheprotectionperiod. 13

14 HeatedtarpsmaydryouttheHydroBinder.Donotallowittodryout.Youmayneed toaddmoistureanduseimpermeablecovers. Theprojectdesignengineerand/orresidentengineershallprovidetechnicalspecificationsand guidance for cold weather concreting based upon your specific project particulars (i.e., geographicallocation,weather,andtimeofyear),andtheengineershouldreviewandapprove allproposedinstallationmethods. 6.5PenetratingColloidalConcreteTreatmentfortheHydroBinder Infill(Optional forhydroturf CSandZ) Penetratingcolloidalconcretetreatment(PCCT)isanoptionalliquidapplicationandtreatmentfor thefreeze/thawprotectionofthehydrobinder infill.itshouldbeappliedtothehydrobinder whenspecified.thepcctshallbeappliedasfollows: PCCTshallideallybestoredinalocationthatisdryandbetween35 Fto100 F(2 Cto 38 C)ambienttemperature.Optimalstorageisatthemiddleofthetemperaturerange. ProtectthePCCTfromfreezing. ThefollowingshallbefollowedwhenapplyingthePCCT: - ThePCCTproductandtheHydroBinder surfaceshallbeattemperatureofat least36degf(2degc)andrising. - Donotapplyonfrozensubstrateorwhentemperaturecanfallbelow32 F within24hoursofapplication. - Ensurethatfrostorfrozensurfacesarethawedwithnostandingwater. - Areasofstandingwatershallberemovedpriortoapplication. - Donotapplyunprotectedduringperiodsofhighwinds. - PCCTshallnotbeappliedininclement,wetorrainyweather,orthethreatof inclementweather. - Donotapplywhensubstrateis90 F(32 C)orhigher.Ifsurfacetemperature ishigherthan90 F(32 C)thenpreHwettingwithwaterisrequired.Besureto removeanypuddlesbeforeapplyingofscp. - Whenhottemperatureanddirectsunlightconditionsexist,applyafinemist sprayofwateronthesurfaceafterapplicationofpcct. Apply PCCT as soon as the HydroBinder infill is hard enough to walk on without damagetothesurface. Usea1,500Hpsi(10.5MPa)airlesssprayersetatapressurethatwillnotdamagethe surface[i.e.,approximately400to900psi(2.5to6.5mpa)].forsmallprojects,a pumpsprayermaybeused. HoldwandandspraythePCCT6inches(15cm)fromthesurfaceoftheHydroBinder ata90ºangle. PCCTmustbeappliedusinganoverlappingspraypatternof50%onthepreviousrun. Anyareathatabsorbsproductfasterthan10minuteswillneedtobereapplieduntil theproductnolongerabsorbsfasterthan15minutes. IfPCCThasabsorbedthoroughlyinthemajorityofthearea,butthereispoolinginthe lowareas,useabroomtospreadadditionalpcctintotheareasalreadypenetrated. DonotallowPCCTtodryinpools.RemoveexcessPCCTwithadampmop.Applyat a rate of approximately 140 ft 2 per gallon of PCCT. If necessary, spray a second applicationofpcct. 14

15 Forslopedapplications,workfromlowesttohighestelevation.Verylightandrepeated spraypassesshouldbemadeonthesameareauntiltheconcretesurfacenolonger acceptspcct.moveontonextareaafterachieving pointofrejection. 7.0BackfillingoftheAnchorTrenches(HydroTurf CSandZ) HydroTurf reliesontheanchortrenchestoserveasaterminationpoint.topanchortrenches shouldbebackfilledasquicklyaspracticalafterengineeredturfcomponentisinstalled(priorto HydroBinderinfillplacement). Verticalanchortrenchesaswellasanchortrenchesalongthetoeshouldnotbebackfilleduntil the HydroBinder infill is in place. However, backfilling the vertical and toes anchor trench backfillingmayberequireddependingonsitespecificneeds.anchortrenchdimensionswillbe showninthedesigndrawings. Backfillingand/orsandbagloadingthebottomandsideanchortrenchesshallbeperformedto reducethermalexpansionandcontraction. When utilizing HDPE geomembrane, daily permanent and/or temporary anchoring should be considered due to the nature of HDPE contracting with overnight temperature changes and thermalenergyconditionschangingtoprotectthewrinklemanagementtechniquesappliedfrom contraction. Sand bags should also be utilized at the bottom perimeter ditch and benches to manage contractinggeomembraneseams.theamountofsandbagswillbedependentontemperatures BackfillingoftheanchortrenchesfortheHydroTurf CSshallbeperformedasfollows: Thegeomembranecomponentshallbeinintimatecontactwiththeanchortrenchinside wallandbottom.wrinkles,ripples,fishmouths,and/orbunchingshallberemovedand properlypatched. Thegeomembraneshallnotextenduptheoutsidewalloftheanchortrench.Itshallbe trimmedshortoftheoutsidewallandshallextendaminimumof¾ofthewidthofthe anchortrench. The engineered synthetic turf component shall be in intimate contact with the geomembrane. Wrinkles, ripples, fish mouths, and/or bunching shall be removed and properlypatched. Theengineeredsyntheticturfshallbetrimmedsothatitdoesnotextendontothebottom of the anchor trench. It shall be trimmed just short of the bottom and shall extend a minimumof¾ofthedepthoftheanchortrench. Duringfillingoftheanchortrenchwithcompactedsoilorconcretebackfill,thecontractor shallmaintainthatthegeomembraneisinintimatecontactwiththetrenchwallandbottom andthattheengineeredsyntheticturfisinintimatecontactwiththegeomembrane. Soilbackfillshallbecompactedinaccordancewiththespecificationsforengineeredfill. VibrationoftheConcretebackfillshouldbeconsideredandinaccordancewithstandard industrytechniques. BackfillingoftheanchortrenchesfortheHydroTurf Zshallbeperformedasfollows: 15

16 The engineered synthetic turf component shall be in intimate contact with the anchor trenchinsidewallandbottom.wrinkles,ripples,fishmouths,and/orbunchingshallbe removedandproperlypatched. Theengineeredsyntheticturfshallnotextenduptheoutsidewalloftheanchortrench.It shallbetrimmedshortoftheoutsidewallandshallextendaminimumof¾ofthewidthof theanchortrench. Duringfillingoftheanchortrenchwithcompactedsoilorconcretebackfill,thecontractor shallmaintainthatthegeomembraneisinintimatecontactwiththetrenchwallandbottom and that the engineered synthetic turf is in intimate contact with the structured geomembrane. Soilbackfillshallbecompactedinaccordancewiththespecificationsforengineeredfill. Concrete backfill shall be vibrated in place in accordance with standard industry techniques. 16
