3 What about starting your own [landscape] revolution? To meet the challenge of a sustainable world, local authorities and businesses such as yours are involved in energy transition: through production, transport and energy distribution activities, but also through those that implement energy sobriety and efficiency in buildings or transport, and more generally in the design and management of cities and territories. All these actions make major changes to the landscape as it is seen and experienced by people; it brings into play not only living conditions but also lifestyles. Usually this issue of the landscape is approached from a conservation angle, as if it were a deep frozen picture that has to be protected as well as possible by reducing the «impacts» and compensating for the «damage». As if energy transition were a shameful disease, an approach that is necessarily negative for our environment! Regional educational studio «Plan of landscapes for green growth in the Côte Sud Châlonnaise Morgane Braouzec, Alice Stevens, Steve Walker At the École nationale supérieure de paysage (ENSP), Versailles, France, we take the opposite view. 4 4 FRENCH LANSCAPE AND ENERGY CHAIR An innovative approach to energy transition For the last 40 years, the ENSP has overhauled planning approaches, and the way activities are exercised and players are positioned, by training creative landscapers, engaged in territorial planning through a singular approach: the landscape project. do the sites, installations and energy production, transport or distribution networks get involved in a happy and voluntary transition project? How do the facilities, designed with attention to efficiency and sobriety, give back meaning to our everyday environment? The landscape project approach is literally a revolution: an inversion, a complete reversal. The landscape is no longer seen as a more or less fortuitous consequence of the transformations in progress, but as a shared cause. Instead of addressing the issue separately from the others and downstream of operations, wondering «how not to affect it too much», it is approached proactively, positively, participatorily and inclusively: what kind of landscape project do we want? How can we adapt our environment and our lifestyles during the changes called for by the ecological energy transition? How do we choose them and want them, and not just suffer them? How do we design them and not hide them? How As people perceive and experience landscapes every day, it is not speciality field: everyone is concerned. Implementing (often complex) energy transition through a landscape project approach makes it possible to involve residents in developing the project. The landscape becomes a language, a goal, attention, a public good. Elected officials, residents, associations no longer react, but are acting, at your side able to be involved in the landscape project for energy transition. This is the approach taught by the École nationale supérieure de paysage.

This approach will overhaul the processes, project management, consultation, and site management methods. It will boost your teams and enrich activities. It will mobilize their creativity and develop their skills. It will strengthen their operational action capabilities. It will reinforce the social and environmental acceptability of projects. It will offer original instruments for communicating with your partners. Finally your business / local authority will benefit from the favourable environment offered by the École nationale supérieure de paysage in Versailles, France : Excellence in training internationally recognized general and creative planners: three year training course for landscape designers with competitive entry after 2 years higher education with an offer of a post Masters coursedes outils d expérimentation concrets au travers d ateliers de projets, Practical experimental tools through project workshops A Masters course focusing on research landscape project theory and approach (Université Paris-Saclay) A landscape research laboratory (LAREP) within the doctoral school ABIES (Agriculture Biologie Environnement Santé) / Université Paris-Saclay / IAVFF, A reception and residence centre for international landscapers and artists: Villa Le Nôtre, The most well stocked documentation and archive centre in France, A prestigious site with the Potager du Roi in Versailles and a second site focusing on the world of the Mediterranean in Marseille; able to host events.
