SERVICE LEARNING CLASS PROJECTS 2040 Vision for Downtown Stillwater with Site Design for a New Town Square Concepts focused on a nine-block district integrating economic and cultural resources while featuring a new town green. Program elements for the new town square included an event lawn and stage, civic plaza, interactive play elements, streetscape enhancements, and associated economic development. Intermediate and final presentations were made to city council members and city staff. Students design concepts were featured in the local paper and serve to facilitate conversations about possible design solutions as the city works with consultants. LA 4525: Studio 6. Multiple phases of this project included formal and inform trail surfaces to provide ADA compliant access. Funding $107,000 [ ] Xeriscape Garden at Edmond s Bickham-Rudkin Park. Worked with city staff of Edmond, Oklahoma, local professionals and OSU Cooperative Extension faculty to design a xeriscape/ water conservation demonstration garden. Served as design consultant in developing linear walkway to provide views of riparian corridor and showcase native plant material. Served as design consultant in developing underground storage system that maximizes rainwater capture for re-use. Design drew upon permaculture concepts of multi-layered, perennial plantings. Garden was designed to support television programming for Oklahoma Gardening. [2010] The Outcrop, The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University. Designed a functional work of land art to serve as an outdoor gathering space and classroom along the gardens pedestrian pathway. A series of nine stone slabs provide seating and are placed asymmetrically to create visual tension as they cut through and into the pathway at an oblique angle. [2010] Hosta Garden, Oklahoma Gardening Television Program. Served as design consultant in creating an intimate garden for plant display and interaction. Designed specifically for installation on Oklahoma Gardening, the planting was planned at the scale of a backyard garden using hardscape elements easily installed and built by homeowners. [2010] Shade Garden Renovation, The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University. Served as design consultant to develop planting design and amend bed lines to create a greater sense of enclosure in the shade garden. Design elements incorporated hide-and-reveal techniques to enhance visitor experience. A multi-layered planting design mimics natural woodlands. [2010] Integrated Environmental Research and Education Site Master Plan, The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University. Worked with colleagues to coordinate multidisciplinary team resulting in the development of site program plan and design. Site design includes integrated environmental practices such as bioretention, pervious pavement, green building technologies and riparian corridor enhancement.
