1 Exterior Lighting 2009/2010 Electrical lighting has a great impact on urban environments at night. Innumerable light sources play their part. Excessive or uncontrolled exterior lighting, however, causes light pollution. For this reason precise optics are a very important aspect for the development of exterior lighting products. New and innovative light sources as well as advanced materials are continuously being used in our range of lighting products. The main criterion for the evaluation of new technical possibilities is always the lasting and practical advantage for lighting projects. Exterior lighting products are generally installed permanently in all sorts of architectural environments. That is why we strive to make our product design timeless and neutral. Our products work with precision and reliably behind the scenes and do not try to push themselves into the foreground. 4 Government Square Cincinnati The Government Square Transit Center is an important public transport transit point for Cincinnati and the Sate of Ohio. When planning the renovation, the efficiency of bus travel and the safety and well being of the passengers had to be taken into consideration. The lighting for the bus shelters was particularly important; in addition to direct lighting, the pavements are also illuminated by the use of Nightline L luminaires for T16 lamps as indirect lighting. The columns of the metal structure are also accentuated by using Nightscape floodlights. 4 Projects

6 Zollverein Park, Zollverein coal mine Essen At the Zollverein colliery in Essen, the last coal was brought to the surface in 1986 and the adjoining coking plant was closed in This industrial monument is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Thanks to a concept of "Preservation by new Utlilization" it has now become the centre of creative business in the Ruhr area. The timeless and functional lighting design increases the attractiveness of the site at night and makes it easier for visitors to find their way around. The illumination of the pit head frame at Shaft XII is visible for miles around and is the emblem of the park. Superlight Compact floodlights in various wattages are used in the lighting scheme. A central element in the design concept of the extensive park area are steel girders used as poles into which Superlight Compact floodlights of various wattages have been recessed. The lighting design office Licht Kunst Licht won the GE Edison Award 2008 for this efficient and at the same time atmospheric lighting concept. 6 Projects

8 Cloisters of Bonn Cathedral Bonn Bonn Cathedral boasts the only 12th century cloisters north of the Alps. The remodelling of the inner courtyard entailed a new lighting concept which represents a modern adaption of a medieval lighting scenario. The repetition of zones of light and shadow accentuate the vaulted architecture. In the courtyard Superlight Compact floodlights have been installed in custom made in-ground recess boxes and are used to create festive illumination for special events. By illuminating all four courtyard façades, the size and the materials of the space take on a special aura. 8 Projects

10 Docklands Hamburg The architecture of this office building in the Port of Hamburg with it s façade cantilevered out over the water is reminiscent of a ship s bow. At the rear of the building is the entrance with outdoor steps. The steps are illuminated using fluorescent lamps. The illumination of the concrete benches in front of the building is a continuation of the lighting design concept of the building. For this purpose ground-recessed luminaires for T16 lamps were chosen. 10 Projects

12 Schweizer Bundeshaus Bern The Schweizer Bundeshaus was built in 1902 as the Swiss Parliament building according to the plans of the architect Hans Wilhelm Auer in the so-called Historism style. It was the first public building in Switzerland to be equipped with electric lighting. In 2009 comprehensive alterations were completed under the auspices of the architects Aebi & Vincent. Lighting consultants Vogt & Partner developed a lighting concept worthy of the significance and history of this building which included the careful accentuation of façade details. The golden decoration of the cupola and the copper roof covering are illuminated using light sources with a warm colour temperature. Luminaires of several product lines were used in this complex lighting design. The main and south cupola is illuminated using Nightscape floodlights with rotationally symmetrical reflectors. For the façade details Superlight Compact floodlights of various wattages have been used. The light for the lantern and the gable is provided by Nightline L luminaires for T16 lamps. The intrados and passages are illuminated using Nightvision luminaires. 12 Projects

14 Great Conservatory Syon Park Brentford The architect Charles Fowler was commissioned to build the Great Conservatory at Syon Park on the outskirts of London in It was designed to house the Duke of Northumberland's collection of exotic plants. The objective of the new lighting concept is to provide general illumination by indirect lighting and at the same time accentuate certain plants. The light passing through the glass façade emphasises the airiness of this impressive structure. This lighting concept was accomplished using Superlight Compact floodlights in various light distributions and wattages. 14 Projects

16 Place Stanislas Nancy Place Stanislas was built in 1755 and with its baroque façades is today an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The comprehensive restoration on the occasion of its 250th anniversary included a new lighting concept. Highly atmospheric illumination of the façade was achieved using low wattage floodlights which offered the additional advantage of low energy consumption. Superlight Compact S floodlights with asymmetric reflectors were chosen. On the balconies at first floor level they are equipped with 35 Watt and along the balustrade at the top of the building with 20 Watt metal halide lamps. 16 Projects

18 Town Fence Munich Town Fence is an enormous banner stretched on a wire fence which is used in inner cities as an advertising surface for branded products. In the case of this installation in Munich, the Nightline LS modular system for T16 lamps was used. The 1.75 metre high advertising space is uniformly illuminated along its total length of 30 metres. The robust quality of the product enables them to be used in areas where there is a danger of vandalism. 18 Projects
