4 1 Features With the DICN system, it is possible to control up to 4 chillers. Different chillers can be mixed through each other, as long as they stay within 1 of the 5 groups as mentioned below: 1. Aircooled chillers: EUWA*40-60KBXY (R-134a) 2. Aircooled chillers :EUWA*80-120KBXY (R-134a) 3. Aircooled chillers :EUWA*40-200MZY (R-407C) 4. Watercooled chillers: EUW*40-200MXY (R-134a) R-407C models R-134a models - EUWA*40,50,60,80,100,120,160,180,200MZY1 - EUWA*40,50,60,80,100,120KBXY1 - EUW*40,60,80,100,120,160,180,200MXY The D.I.C.N. option allows simultaneous operation of up to 4 chillers as if they were a single unit, in order to deliver the required cooling capacity. This results in precise and efficient capacity control. It is also possible to define units as manual or automatic standby units which is useful for back up purposes guaranteeing reliable operation of the chiller plant. With this option, up to a 2 Megawatt chiller plant can be operated as if they were a single unit. 1 Every chiller can either have an individual circulation pump or 1 pump can discharge water in a distributor that leads water to several chillers. (In both cases, all units must be foreseen by separate flowswitches in their water outlet pipe!) The use of D.I.C.N. results in following advantages: 1. Choise between common leaving or entering water control (thermostat function). For units with common leaving water control, an insertion hole must be foreseen for the additional water temperature sensor. Sensor and sensor holder are optional parts. 2. An intelligent temperature control: the system will react fast if the temperature is far from the setpoint and accurate control is kept if it is close to the setpoint. 3. Saving energy and increasing the lifetime of the pumps by means of flexible pump control, available as a voltage free contact on every unit. It is possible to choose between: - Pumpcontact closes if unit is switched ON. - Pumpcontact closes if compressor of the unit starts. In the lattter choice, the pump stops to operate when the chiller is in thermostat off mode. e.g. when every chiller is foreseen with its own pump, the customer might prefer to stop the pump, after stopping the chiller on thermostat. In the case that all chillers are configured to stop their pump when the chiller is in thermostat off mode, the system takes care that the pump of the latest chiller that goes into thermostat off mode, keeps running so that always the correct temperature is sensed at the mixed water outlet (cfr setup example). 2 Hydronic Systems

5 1 Features 4. A difference in running hours between the different units can be programmed. For every unit, the target difference in running hours between this unit and the unit with the smallest amount of running hours can be set. e.g. if following setting is made: Unit1=0 Unit 2 = 1000 Unit 3 = 2000 Unit 4 = 2000 then unit 3 and 4 will be operated most. They will get priority in operation as to reach 2000 running hours more than unit 1. Unit 1 will be the unit with the lowest running hours. Nota: This means that equal or sequential start up remains valid within 1 chiller. 5. For units with more than 2 circuits, the individual lead/lag setting of a unit - to determine the priority of the circuits - remain valid. Every unit should be configured as either a NORMAL, STANDBY or DISCONNECT unit. This setting will be mentioned on the display of each chiller. NORMAL: Normal operation STANDBY: The unit only operates if another unit is in alarm, or in case of capacity shortage of the other units in the system. Capacity shortage occurs when all units are running on full capacity, but the setpoint is not reached after a certain period. Also, more than 1 unit (up to 4) can be defined as a STANDBY unit. In that case, only the unit which is most near to it s target running hours will be considered as a STANDBY unit. This means, if a customer wants to have 1 particular unit always to be in off mode (except for alarm or capacity shortage of the other chillers), then he only has to define this 1 unit as STANDBY. But if a customer wants to have more than 1, or even all chillers to be a standby unit alternately (each on its turn), then more than 1, or all chillers should be defined as STANDBY. DISCONNECT: Besides this AUTOMATIC standby function, it is also possible to select a MANUAL standby function of a unit. Units which are defined as DISCONNECTED, can be put ON/OFF or set to MANUAL MODE independent from the other units. This can be very useful e.g. in case of servicing. When changing to NORMAL or STANDBY, the unit becomes part of the system again Night setback function: It is possible to reduce sound levels e.g. during night time, by limitation of the capacity of the system. For energy saving, it is also possible to work with dual setpoints (e.g. a lower or higher setpoint during night time). 7. Peak load limitation can be programmed to avoid too high energy consumption. 8. The chillers, grouped in a D.I.C.N., can also be integrated in a Building Management system (B.M.S.), using the B.M.S. options. 9. It is possible to put the controller remotely up to 300m distance from the unit. 10. 6 2 DICN setup example 2-1 Single ring system with 1 pump Example 1: Single ring system with 1 pump Purpose: Deliver constant flow at a constant temperature to a load. Keep 1 unit (slave 3) as a standby unit. Buffer tank Filter Load Fieldwiring: Terminals for fieldwiring Setup: The system is controlled on leaving water temperature. (additional sensor EKCLWS connected to the master in mixed water outlet required). The pump remains running as long as 1 of the units is ON. The pump in this example still runs for 120 after all units have been put to OFF. Slave 3 is configured to operate when its remote ON/OFF switch S6S (S3) is pushed by the operator. Slave 1, slave 2 and the master are put ON/OFF by remote ON/OFF switch S6S (M) connected to the master. The setpoint can be switched from OUTLSETP1 to OUTLSETP2 by the dual setpoint contact (S10S) connected to the master. NOTE 1: For models EUWA* KX* and EUW*40-200KX* the opening delay of the pump contact can be programmed. In this case it is not necessary to use a delay contactor. K1F may also be a 24V DC or a 230V AC contactor. NOTE 2: The additional sensor (R8T) must be directly connected to the MASTER PCB. 8 2 DICN setup example 2-3 Double ring system with several pumps Example 3: Double ring system with several pumps Purpose: Keep a buffer on a constant temperature. Feed from this buffer a load. Keep 1 unit (slave 3) as a standby unit. Buffer tank Load Filter Filter Filter Filter Fieldwiring and terminals for fieldwiring: Setup: The system is controlled on leaving water temperature. The pumps of the slaves only run when their compressor is running (energy saving). After stopping the compressor, the pump in this example still runs for 120. The pump of the master must run continuously as to sense the correct temperature. Slave 3 is configured to operate when its remote ON/OFF switch S6S (S3) is pushed by the operator. Slave 1, slave 2 and the master are put ON/OFF by remote ON/OFF switch S6S (M) connected to the master. The setpoint can be switched from INLSETP1 to INLSETP2 by the dual setpoint contact S10S (M) connected to the master. NOTE 1: For models EUWA* KX* and EUW*40-200KX* the opening delay of the pump contact can be programmed. In this case it is not necessary to use a delay contactor. 9 2 DICN setup example 2-4 Temperature control with DICN Quick and smooth startup Stable control High credibility When de temperature is far from the setpoint (at the moment of starting up the system), the network will start up and/or load up several chillers in a quick way as to pull down the system temperature as fast as possible. (ZONE 1) Starting up the chiller is done with a small time difference of 10 as to avoid excessive starting currents. Once the temperature is within the limits of the setpoint +/- the setpoint difference, stable control will be guaranteed by changing only 1 individual chiller capacity step at a time. (ZONE 2) Chillers with the lowest amount of running hours (minus their defined offset hours) will get priority to start up or load up, units with the highest amount of running hours (minus their defined offset) will get priority to loaddown and the system will run as few chillers as possible to maintain the desired temperature. If a unit is defined as STANDBY, then this unit will only start to operate when another unit is in alarm, (ZONE 3) or when the setpoint cannot be reached with all the other units of the DICN network in operation.
