1 Service and maintenance manual FSTC-049, version , Page 1/8 Service and maintenance manual FSTC-049 Introduction The FSTC-049 module is designed to hold one 210x68 mm flat sheet membrane for use in pervaporation or vapour permeation applications. Standard Membranes: PDMS, POMS (see membrane data sheets) Pressure housing: SS316 Membrane area: 0,0076 m 2 Feed, Retentate conn.: ¼ FNPT Permeate conn.: NW16 KF Sealing of membrane sheet: O-ring O-rings: x 3.53 mm, EPDM PC (standard) or Kalrez (option) x 3.53 mm, EPDM PC (standard) or Kalrez (option) Dimensions: 280 x 130 x 75 mm (see figure) Limits of Operation Max. process pressure: 5 bar Max. process temperature: Dependent on membrane type, See membrane data sheet Vacuum: The level of vacuum depends on the application but is typically 20 mbar. Feed pump capacity: 100 l/h Cleaning: Depending on the specific membrane and nature of the fouling, see instructions in the membrane data sheets.

2 Service and maintenance manual FSTC-049, version , Page 2/8 Disassembling 1. Remove the module from the installation (Attention!: make sure the system is purged) 2. Place the module on a flat surface. 3. Unbolt the 14 M12 bolts to be able to remove the top part of the module. 4. Remove top part of the module carefully in the vertical direction. 5. Place the top part on a flat surface. 6. Remove the flat sheet membrane from the module. 7. If necessary, the porous plate under the membrane can be removed for cleaning purposes. 8. The module is now disassembled. Assembling 1. Open the module according to the disassembling instructions. 2. Get a piece of paper and fold it in half. 3. Place it on top of the module so the size of the membrane can be determined by drawing a line on the sheet of paper within the boundaries of the o-ring (Figure 5). 4. Put a sheet of membrane in between the paper in the most economical position. 5. Cut the membrane with scissors to the right size. Always make sure the membrane is placed between paper sheets to minimize the risk of damaging the membrane. 6. Place the two larger O-rings (f) in their chamber. 7. Mount the two flanges (a) and secure them with the M6x12 bolts (h). Make sure the flanges are centred to avoid membrane damage. 8. Connect the module to the installation. The pressure gauge connection (c) can be used to connect a vacuum meter or for purging. In case the connection is not used it should be plugged.
