2 Cube Lighting, a Garden by Night The feature garden is constructed inside a blacked out marquee, measuring 12x15m. To prevent daylight entering the main marquee, two 3x3m blacked out tents are attached for the entrance and exit, a total length of 24m, over 280m2. 4 Features of the entrance: A large bespoke metal archway is made specially for the entrance of the garden by Tramway Forge. It is lined on the inside with a deep blue material, which complements the ironwork. This creates additional shade for the public to get accustomed to the low light levels inside and reduce the light reaching the main marquee and interfere with light in the garden.

5 A curvy quercus fence (woven oak) covers one side of the entrance, more information on this special fence on All stone work, by Paramount Paving Stone throughout was kindly supplied by Brett A fantastic glass flower by Neil Wilkin reaches up above the fence Together with a silver moon made by Janet Hickman and stars painted by pupils from Wood Green School (more later and on blog). 6 The Main Marquee In the main marquee is the feature garden, seen as a section within a larger garden. The boundary walls to the North are rendered, with stone pillars. The light colour highlights the shadow movement of the planting in front. The woven Quercus fences to the East and boundary to the West are dividing walls within the larger garden

7 Planting does not have to disappear at night, here are shadow patterns of plants on walls, amazing pool reflections, back hedges illuminated, quiet evening talks on the loungers with a blanket to keep warm a little light can give a new life to the gardens at night. 8 The back of the garden features moving grasses with lights projecting their long shadows onto the wall. Strategically placed fans behind the layered hedges in the corners gave movement to the grasses. Illuminated stepping stones and planters were made for the garden by Cube Lighting

10 The image in the reflective pool changes as you walk through the garden. By the entrance the reflection of the pergola should be seen and when you approach the end of the pool the glass weeping willow should sparkle.

12 A crystal chandelier specially made by Neil Wilkin hangs over the dining table from Alexander Rose. A whole wall of herbs, strawberries, chillies and tomatoes entice the diners, Easiwall from Treebox is ideal

14 The 2 m wide public walkway was made of Grassedeck, which is deck board inlayed with artificial turf. It makes a hard-wearing, non-slip and soft pathway. With the amount of people passing through with the unpredictable weather, it looked perfect throughout the show and will be reused in a local Oxfordshire college and a local school. Softness under foot was an important addition to the ambiance.

16 Betula utilis var. jackmontii are planted around the marquee + Quercus rubour between the raised beds, all from Nicholson s nursery The planters from Absolut Planters were filled with Canna indica Tropicana, Echinacea and box balls. Day lilies and Carex testacea grasses give movement to the base and Ivy panels from Treebox are used as backdrops

17 Stainless steel wires are used for the public barrier, between the posts inside and on the outside of the marquee

All the stone we could carry and Grassedeck came back to Oxfordshire to Abingdon and Witney College and Wood Green School which had taken part in the garden. Nicotiana 'Fragrant Cloud and Matthiola bicornis (Night scented stock) were grown by them. These are important annuals for evening fragrance. The pupils also painted the stars decorating the quercus fence and the entrance walls into the garden (more information on the blog) Material we did not have capacity to carry was picked up for use by local schools in London Students at Wood Green School Abingdon & Witney College
