3 PREAMBLE The tests shall be carried out after the reference standard(s) have been studied, since this test instruction only provides on certain points. For convenience in the use of this instruction, the paragraphs are numbered according to the clauses in the standard IEC Page 3 of 8

4 5 Electrical requirements The following test information shall be stated by the manufacturer prior to the specific tests of IEC being carried out: - Verification of the utilization categories AC-15 and/or DC-15 and/or DC-14 in accordance with IEC Verification of positive opening action (direct opening action), in accordance with annex K of IEC If degree of protection is stated, tests in accordance with annex C of IEC General All tests in accordance with 7.3.3, 7.4, 7,6 and 7.7 are carried out on three identical samples, each sample shall be subjected to the sequence of tests in the order given above. If resetting by key, the samples shall be tested without the key inserted. Previously to the test sequence, samples are fitted with cables Acc. to IEC Cables shall not be removed during the whole sequence. 7.2 General design inspection Verification by inspection of the mechanical structure of the emergency stop device is called for in this clause and shall be recorded in the test report Robustness of a button actuator The test may be carried out on a separate sample. The torque shall be applied in both directions of rotation and shall also include turning by a key if resetting is by key operation. The actuator shall be in the rest position during the test. 5 Force is applied in the three mutually perpendicular axes, see fig down Durability test Three samples are subjected to the tests which may be carried out in conjunction with the electrical tests if not carried out previously (See clause 5) 7.4 Conditioning procedures The test is carried out on the same three samples tested according to clause above. Each sample shall be mounted in its own enclosure or if none supplied, all parts except the actuator should be protected equal to at least IP 65 The test can be carried out with all the samples in one chamber or different chambers. The changing of moistures and warm atmosphere period shall be 12 hours with a total test time of at least 96hours (Four complete cycles 12 hours + 12 hours), see diagram below. Variant 2 of IEC are admissible. In case of reset by key, it shall remain fitted. Records of cycles to be joined in the TRF. Page 5 of 8

6 7.5 Shock test After the salt mist test, the samples tested shall be washed in running tap water for 5 min (IEC ), at a water temperature of +35 C. Dry and restore the device to room temperature. The test is carried out on the same three samples tested to and 7.4. Oscillographic or similar means shall be used to detect any opening or closing of contacts longer than 0,2 ms. Voltage and current of the measurement circuit shall be the minimum as declared by the manufacturer. Shock is applied in both directions of the corresponding axis, see fig down. Page 6 of 8

7 7.6 Vibration tests. The test is carried out on the same three samples tested according to 7.3.3, 7.4 and 7.5. One sample for each of the three mutual perpendicular axes, see figure below. Oscillographic or similar means shall be used to detect any opening or closing of the contacts longer than 0,2 ms. Voltage and current of the measurement circuit shall be the minimum as declared by the manufacturer. X axis: sample 1, Y axis: sample 2, Z axis: sample Latching, resetting and impact tests The test is carried out on the same three samples tested according to 7.3.2, 7.4, 7.5 and Opening test. The actuator of the device shall be moved by hand just to the point where latching occurs. After latching, to verify that the normally closed contact is opened an impulse voltage test at 2500V ( In accordance with IEC ) shall be conducted Latching test - Hammer test. The emergency stop device and its actuator are mounted in front of the hammer as shown in figure 1. After the strike the latching shall be verified and the normally closed contacts are open and an impulse voltage test of shall be carried out. Page 7 of 8

8 7.7.4 Resetting test If the device has key operated resetting, the test shall be done by turning the key This test may be carried out on a separate sample with the same arrangement as the test in but with the strike of the hammer in a higher level (310 mm). If there is doubt about latching and opening of the contacts the impulse voltage test in shall be repeated. After the three strikes a visual inspection, and test of the latching function shall be made. No damage of the actuator is accepted. 7.8 Miscellaneous tests Disengagement of wire or rope ( Trip wire switches ). The actuator with wire or rope is installed according to the manufacturer s instruction. After disengagement if there is doubt about the opening of the contacts the impulse voltage test at 2500V of shall be carried out. Page 8 of 8
