On Saturday March 28, the Exhibition Hall will be open to exhibitors from 7am until 7.45am JUDGING COMMENCES AT 8am prompt. Exhibitors will be asked to vacate the exhibition hall at 7.45am Exhibitors are also reminded that they are responsible for their exhibits prior to judging. PLEASE READ YOUR SHOW SCHEDULE CAREFULLY. 4 AWARDS The Belles Fleurs Trophy BEST EXHIBIT IN THE SPRING SHOW Generously donated by Mr and Mrs Bernard Rebours 2014 Winner: Carole Mourant (Container of Minnow Narcissus) RESERVE BEST IN SHOW 2014 Winner: Miss Blanka Schai (Clivia Plant) The Jersey Chrysanthemum Lovers Challenge Cup Originally donated by the Society of Jersey Gardeners will be re-presented in memory of the late Jim Hosking of Fentongollan Flower Farm, Cornwall Awarded to the best entry in the Narcissus Section - Cut Flowers or Containers 2014 Winner: Carole Mourant (Container of Minnow Narcissus) The International Camellia Society Trophy Generously donated by the ICS (Jersey Group) For the best exhibit in the RJAHS Camellia classes 2014 Winner: Peter Scott-Graham The Denis Shaw Memorial Shield Donated in His Memory by his Family in 2012 Awarded to the most humorous fruit and/or vegetable creation at the Spring show 2014 Winner: Summer Liddell (a creation that went into Noah s Ark) A REPLICA IS ALSO AWARDED WITH THE DENIS SHAW MEMORIAL SHIELD this is kept by the winner RHS Junior Competitor s Certificate 2014 Winner: James Lamb a creature that went into Noah s Ark Society of Jersey Gardener Trophy This trophy was originally presented by the late Sq Leader Arthur Robert in 1953 to the Society of Jersey Gardeners and awarded for Chrysanthemums. The Squadron Leader was also very interested in narcissus, breeding several varieties of his own. It was felt it would be fitting to represent this trophy in his memory in recognition for his sterling work in this field. This trophy will be awarded to Class 1: the group of 5 different varieties of Daffodil/Narcissi, one variety in each container, not to exceed a 4ft frontage Winner: Mr W. 8 SHOW REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE CONDUCT OF EXHIBITIONS, COMPETITIONS AND SHOWS HELD BY THE HORTICULTURAL DEPARTMENT OF THE ROYAL JERSEY AGRICULTURAL & HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY (EXHIBITORS NOT COMPLYING WITH THESE REGULATIONS WILL BE SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION) SHOULD THE REGULATIONS CHANGE AT ANY TIME YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED 5. CARDS, WITH THE NUMBER OF AN ENTRY AND THE CLASSES IN WHICH IT IS COMPETING, WILL BE GIVEN TO EACH EXHIBITOR ON ENTERING THE PLACE OF EXHIBITION. EXHIBITORS ARE REQUESTED TO BE PARTICULAR IN PLACING THEIR CARDS WHICH MUST BE PLACED BY THE EXHIBITOR CORRECTLY. THE COUNCIL WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ERROR IN PLACING THE CARDS. 6. THE PLACE OF EXHIBITION WILL BE CLOSED PROMPTLY AT 9PM ON THE DAY BEFORE THE SHOW UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. ALL EXHIBITORS MUST HAVE VACATED THE PREMISES BY THAT TIME. THE PLACE OF EXHIBITION MAY BE OPENED EARLY IN THE MORNING OF THE DAY OF THE SHOW BY ARRANGEMENT WITH THE SECRETARY. 9. NO PERSON, NOT BEING AN OFFICIAL, MAY REMAIN IN THE PLACE OF EXHIBITION WHILST THE JUDGES ARE OFFICIALLY ENGAGED. 10. JUDGES ARE ELECTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE HORTICULTURAL DEPARTMENT OF THE SOCIETY. 11. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES AS TO THE MERIT OF AN EXHIBIT SHALL BE FINAL. COUNCIL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REMOVE FOR FURTHER INSPECTION ANY SPECIMENS OR PLANTS WHICH ARE THE SUBJECT OF A DISPUTE. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES SHALL BE FINAL, EXCEPT IN CASES WHEN, AFTER AN AWARD IS MADE, THE EXHIBIT IS FOUND NOT TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SCHEDULE. 12. ALL MATTERS OF PROTEST, DISQUALIFICATION ETC MUST BE LODGED WITH THE SECRETARY NO LATER THAN CLOSE OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE SHOW, WHEN THEY WILL BE DEALT WITH BY AN ADJUDICATOR APPOINTED BY THE COUNCIL WHOSE JUDGEMENT WHICH SHALL BE BASED ON THE RHS CRITERIA SHALL BE FINAL. ONLY ONE ENTRY MAY BE MADE IN EACH CLASS UNLESS THE SCHEDULE PROVIDES OTHERWISE. IF A GIVEN CLASS SHALL ONLY HAVE ONE COMPETING ENTRY IT SHALL NOT RECEIVE A PRIZE OR COMMENDATION UNLESS, IN THE OPINION OF THE JUDGES, IT IS DESERVING OF ONE. 14. ALL PLANTS MUST HAVE BEEN IN THE OWNERSHIP, OF THE EXHIBITOR FOR AT LEAST TWO MONTHS PRIOR TO THE SHOW. ALL CUT FLOWERS, FRUIT AND VEGETABLES MUST HAVE BEEN GROWN BY THE EXHIBITOR OR THEY WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE FOR THE PRIZE, EXCEPT WHERE MARKED OTHERWISE IN THE SCHEDULE. 15. AMATEUR. A PERSON WHO, NOT BEING A PROFESSIONAL, EITHER PERSONALLY OR WITH UNPAID OR PAID ASSISTANCE, MAINTAINS A GARDEN OR GROWS PLANTS, FLOWERS, FRUIT OR VEGETABLES FOR PLEASURE AND ENJOYMENT AND NOT FOR HIS OR HER LIVELIHOOD. 16. ALL PLANTS, CUT FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES MUST BE DISTINCT AND NAMED WHERE POSSIBLE AND IN CASES OF EQUALITY PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE EXHIBITS WHICH COMPLY WITH THIS REGULATION. SEEDLINGS AND SPORTS MUST BE DESCRIBED AS SUCH. 17. ANYONE ELECTED AS A JUDGE IN A SHOW OR A GARDEN COMPETITION WILL BE UNABLE TO MAKE ENTRIES IN THAT PARTICULAR SHOW OR GARDEN COMPETITION. 18. THREE JUDGES AND A RESERVE JUDGE WILL BE ELECTED FOR THE GARDEN COMPETITION. THE RESERVE JUDGE WILL ACCOMPANY THE JUDGES ON ALL THE JUDGING DAYS. IF ANY COMPETITOR IS RELATED TO, OR EMPLOYED BY, ANY OF THE JUDGES, THE RESERVE JUDGE WILL TAKE HIS OR HER PLACE. 19. ALL ENTRIES SHOULD BE MADE ON THE APPROPRIATE ENTRY FORM. 20. THE COUNCIL SHALL HAVE ENTIRE CONTROL OF ALL EXHIBITS FROM THE TIME OF THEIR STAGING AT THE PLACE OF EXHIBITION UNTIL THE CLOSE OF THE SHOW. 21. ALL PRIZE MONEY SHALL BE PAYABLE TWENTY-ONE DAYS AFTER EACH SHOW AT THE DEPARTMENT S OFFICES. ANY PRIZE MONEY NOT CLAIMED BY 31 ST OF DECEMBER SHALL BE FORFEITED.
