9 LONDON S MOST DISTINGUISHED HOME The Lancasters was originally an elegant parade of fifteen magnificent, stucco-fronted Grade II listed houses dating from the mid-19th century. Each of the 77 homes has been designed around the grandeur of the original architecture and interior features of the building. At the front of the building is a spectacular private garden featuring a simple yet elegant sculpture. Designed to be viewed and appreciated by the public, particular attention has been paid towards the scale and open form of the art piece, providing an exciting contrast between contemporary sculpture and The Lancasters period architecture.

Established in 1970 and housed in a classical 1934 tea pavilion, it takes its name from the nearby Serpentine Lake, and has held exhibitions from artists as renowned as Bridget Riley, Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons. On the other side of the park, the Royal Albert Hall hosts musical performances, such as the Proms, which are broadcast across the world. Classical combines with World, Jazz and even Rock music in the distinctive elliptical Knightsbridge venue, the building of which was inspired by Britain s Great Exhibition held in 1851 in Hyde Park. 16 Craft with design Highly-skilled artists and craftsmen have been commissioned to work on The Lancasters, ensuring every apartment is hand-finished and unique. Stone façades have been restored, ornate gypsum plasterwork repaired, period fireplaces replicated and bespoke cabinetry fitted. Joiners, gilders, specialist painters and decorative artists have all been commissioned. Classic with contemporary The interior architecture includes plaster mouldings and timber panelling, paying homage to the original features, juxtaposed with sleek kitchens and spa-inspired bathrooms to create a seamless blend of contemporary and traditional.

17 Kitchens Contemporary kitchens are fitted with the latest appliances with granite or stone worktops. Bathrooms The modern chromium brassware is by Fantini, with beautiful Spanish & Italian marble tiles to walls and floors with underfloor heating. The skills of fine artists and craftspeople have also been harnessed to spectacular effect. It is an eclectic, exotic mix. The result is a sensitive and sympathetic response to the provenance, architecture and location of The Lancasters.
