1 Industrial Ventilation Industrial fans are used in a wide range of commercial and industrial applications to provide a healthy and safe environment in which to work. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations are particularly relevant to industrial processes. Introduced in 2002 and amended in 2005 they require employers in all workplaces to control exposure to substances to prevent ill health. Substances include adhesives, paints, cleaning agents, fumes from soldering and welding, naturally occurring substances such as dust and biological agents such as bacteria and other micro organisms. Effective ventilation has an important part to play in reducing these risks. Xpelair offers a comprehensive range of industrial products and associated ventilation accessories and controls, which can be combined to design bespoke systems to suit a wide range of specific ventilation applications. Once a system is installed COSHH Regulations require it to be used and maintained, so access for routine, documented inspection is also an important consideration. Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 (section 6) and the associated AcOP requires effective and suitable provision is made so that every enclosed workplace is ventilated by a sufficient quantity of fresh air. Although no maximum temperature is specified in the Regulations, an accepted zone of thermal comfort is between 16-24ºC. Building design, shading, extract ventilation, destratification and air circulation can be combined to provide a comfortable, healthy workplace environment. Designed for horizontal installation on roofs, the XMV range features a unique high performance aluminium-polyamide mixed flow impeller and twin-wall casing design. This construction and a motor located out of the air-stream means it can be used with air-duct temperatures of up to 100 C. The XMV range is available in six diameters from 225mm to 500mm all with IP55 Class F motors, safety thermal overload protection and an integral service isolator. The tough mouldings are manufactured in HDPE which is UV stabilised, resistant to all weather conditions down to -30 C and, to meet regulatory requirements, is 100% recyclable. This can come through the unit or alternatively, by moving a blanking plate, the duct can be connected to the side of the unit. Flexible casing and spigot dimensions enable fitting to existing builder s work in refurbishment projects where standard sizes may not be suitable.
