4 Introduction Since its establishment in 1960, Nippon Tanshi has been developing and selling terminals and connectors (and related crimping tools ) of the highest quality and reliability. We have a wide range of tools including hand tools, semi-automated and fully-automated crimping machines and special-purpose machines. 5 Crimping Suggestions Strip terminals were designed for use with specific wire sizes and for crimping by machines. For best results crimping must be performed according to the crimping specifications of the terminal, and using the dies and applicators specifically designed for the job. Crimp Height The correct crimp height ensures optimal electrical and mechanical performance. Crimping specifications include the correct crimp height for most terminalwire combinations. Crimp height should be measured at the center of the core crimp using a crimp height micrometer (as shown in the figure). Bellmouths & Crimp Burrs Bellmouths are very important because they ensure that the wire conductor is not damaged by the core crimp barrel. Crimping specifications include the minimum and maximum bellmouth dimensions. Crimp burrs can affect the performance of the terminal and should be checked for compliance with the specifications. Bell Mouths Burrs Strip Length Insulation should be stripped to the length indicated in the crimping specifications. The exposed wire should be straight and free of scars or cuts. Flaring is unacceptable. Conductor & Insulation Position The conductor and insulation must be positioned properly in a crimped terminal. The end of the exposed wire should be halfway between the W.S. and the rear end of the contact. The end of the insulation should be halfway between the I.S. and the W.S. To ensure the highest level of reliability, our Nittan Techno subsidiary designs, makes and sells a full line of terminal-to-wire processing equipment. Hand Tools for Crimping Nittan Techno hand tools can be used to crimp a wide variety of individual terminals to wires. Hand tools are very convenient for work on the bench or in the field. Applicator Dies Mini-dies determine the shape of the crimped terminal. That shape determines the quality of the connection between the wire and the terminal. We design, test and certify die sets for all our terminals. Applicators Applicators hold the dies in place so that the crimp can be made. They also feed the terminals to the wire. We design and manufacture highly reliable, durable and consistent crimping machines. Our models range from 1.5 to 4 tons in universal and standard configurations. Add-On Machines Nittan Techno makes a variety of tools which help to improve quality and productivity. Some of them are simply attached to existing crimping machines to make the work faster and more accurate.
