1 THE CLOISTER NEWS The Cloister at Saint Henry Clubhouse 105 Emma Neuhoff Court, Nashville, TN May, 2018 Volume XXXV, Issue 5 CLUBHOUSE / POOL LOCKS Though the COA Board approved installing a key fob locking system for both Clubhouse and pool in November, that action will be rescinded in the May Board Meeting due to cost. Your current Clubhouse/Pool keys will continue to provide access. New locks will be installed but keyed to match existing keys. POOL OPENING NEWS The weather forecast at print time showed that Nashville temperatures will be at or greater than 75 degrees beginning May 1 so the pool will be opened for use. As most know, the pool gates are locked and also padlocked at night per Metro Code and must be unlocked each morning and locked each evening. The AM Walking Group, usually Brenda Butler, will be responsible for opening the padlocks each morning around 7 a.m. Thanks to Unit Owner Olivia Waggoner for locking the padlocks each evening about 7 p.m. Contact above residents or Erica in the office if you have questions. WATER AEROBICS When daily temperatures are at or above 75 degrees, the water aerobics class will meet each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. Thanks to teachers this year: Michaelene Gnau, Ruth Price and Sue Hegland. Claire Calongne is the substitute teacher. Join this group for some great exercise! APRIL TOWN HALL MEETING The COA Board of Directors appreciates the more than 50 Unit Owners who attended the first ever Town Hall Meeting on April 19 th. The informal meeting allowed the Board to share information about a legal resolution to align governing documents with actual board and Unit Owner responsibilities which have been in place since the early 1990s. Unit Owners shared their ideas about keeping property values high by paying attention to curb appeal and staying on top of community maintenance. The Board acknowledged that curb appeal is important, but said there has to be a balance between safety, maintaining the community and keeping the reserves at a good level for future expensive maintenance of roofs, streets, siding, walls, etc. President Deb Blackie announced the formation of a tree committee to plan the planting of trees to replace dead and diseased trees removed in the last two years on common ground. Landscaping and wildlife challenges were discussed. Also questions about the current paint cycle were answered. The second 2018 Town Hall Meeting will be held on October 18 th at 7 p.m Quarterly Board Meetings May 17 th, 3 p.m. August 16 th, 3 p.m. November 15 th, 3 p.m.

2 Page 2 CLOISTER NEWS New Pet Registration Form Attached If CMA does not have a Pet Registration Form for your dog and/or cat, please fill out the attached and give to Erica at the Clubhouse. Thanks for your cooperation. PHASE II PAINTING HAS BEGUN CertaPro has begun Phase II Painting with the Clubhouse! Residents in the areas listed below received an announcement on their doors regarding what to expect. Another contact will be made with owners when the activity gets close to your unit. Phase II includes (map on Clubhouse board and in center of new Directory): Cloister Drive Emma Neuhoff Court Siena Drive Clubhouse and Pool Area Work includes repair and painting of exterior wood, painting of exterior doors and shutters, pressure washing of patios, check and repair of roof, gutters, and chimney caps, as needed. If you have questions, contact CMA Assistant Property Manager Erica Sullivan (see back page). Landscaping Notes Grass is being cut on Thursdays at the recommended fescue height which is 3 ½-4 inches. Grass edging is being done once monthly, as a test, to help eliminate deep trenches which were created beside sidewalks and drives when edging weekly, causing several residents to trip. Also, per Homeowner s Manual, pages 21-25, a Variance Form is required for shrub or tree planting. CINCO DE MAYO COVERED DISH DINNER TUESDAY, MAY 8 th Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5. The date is to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza. Now you know! We figure that May 8 th is close enough to the 5th to count. So join us at 5:30 p.m. for appetizers and visiting. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. Just bring your guacamole, salsa or other appetizer, salad, Mexican style vegetable, fruit or dessert (enough for six please), to complement the provided tacos (both soft and crunchy tortillas, meat, chopped lettuce and tomato, sour cream, onion, cheese, etc.). We ll provide decaf tea and coffee. There might be Margaritas. It s only $4 to cover cost of entrée, supplies and cleaning afterward. New residents get one free meal. --Covered Dish Planning Group MAY 24 FOR PODIATRIST VISIT Podiatrist Dr. Gary Cockrell will make his bimonthly visit to the Clubhouse on Thursday, May 24, 2-5 p.m. If you are interested in a foot exam, please contact Sophia Keller at or Remember this is a service offered only to Cloister residents.

3 2016 CLOISTER NEWS Page 3 CHIPMUNK REMEDY? Chipmunk and skunk damage to walls, driveways, and landscaping, etc., caused the Cloister about $10K last year. A Unit Owner shared at the Town Hall Meeting that she had tried a rodent repelling product she ordered from a catalog from the Harriet Carter Company. To all those thoughtful neighbors who help Cloister residents by providing transportation for trips to the airport, shopping, doctor s appointments, etc. A BIG THANKS! Sometimes we trap and relocate the critters, but this resident indicated that after using the product in the chipmunk holes she could locate, she has not seen chipmunks in her yard. 4 Page 4 CLOISTER NEWS Lynwood Frank Neeley March 8, 1933 April 17, 2018 Frank Lynwood Neeley, 101 Emma Neuhoff, age 85, passed away on April 17, He is preceded death by his wife Barbara Jane Neeley, son Pat Neeley and a grandson Thomas Lawrence. He is survived by his children, Lynwood Frank Neeley Jr., Vincent Neeley, Theresa Lawrence (Tony), Pam Gregory (Teddy), Mike Neeley (Lynne), Tim Neeley (Meg), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law Toni Neeley. Mr. Neeley was retired from the Metro Fire Department after 40 years of service and always was willing to help others. Funeral Mass was at St. Henry Catholic Church. The group enjoyed this Pulizer Prize winning novel by Donna Tartt although it was far longer than most had expected. With a detailed and disturbing description of opioid addiction set in the midst of an exciting tale of world-wide adventure, the book left us somewhat disconcerted but perhaps more equipped to understand the epidemic. On May 17 th at 11 a.m., we will be talking about Beryl Markham s memoir, West is the Night.
