1 linden GARDEN CLUB OF PINEWILD OCTOBER 2016 NEWSLETTER MEETING OCTOBER 13, 2016 PINEWILD COUNTRY CLUB 10:00 AM PROGRAM: Irene Stewart from the Pottery Barn: Preparing Table Settings for the Holidays A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT Irene Stewart, a designer who has been with Pottery Barn for 11 years and also has 25+ years experience in home design. She loves using existing pieces repurposing them in the client s home in unique and unexpected ways. Chad Sprouse from Pottery Barn will be accompanying Irene. We are so fortunate that Irene will be coming from Raleigh to Pinehurst to make a presentation at our October 13 th Linden Garden Club of Pinewild meeting. Irene has offered to do something extra for a limited number of china place settings, or a piece of china/dinnerware that is special to a member and will appreciate some advice on how to incorporate it in a special tablescape. Please CALL JANE WALDEMAR at and give me the details.

3 INSTRUCTIONS FOR SIGNING UP FOR THE MEETING/LUNCHEON: It is requested you make your reservations as early as possible in order for Chef Todd to have a accurate head count of those staying for lunch! Lunch will follow our program and business meeting. Please (PREFERRED) Ginny Notestine at the following address: reservations@lindengardenclub.com or by phone at by Monday, the 10TH OF October to make your luncheon reservation. This date enables Ginny to get an accurate count for the Chef. Please note that you must notify Ginny in your if you will attend the meeting, but are not staying for lunch. ALSO, please note that you should receive an or phone call confirming that we received your RSVP within a few days of your . If you do not receive a confirmation, please get in touch with Ginny promptly! In the event that you make a luncheon reservation and find that you are unable to attend, you must cancel 48 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the lunch. Husbands and guests are always welcome to attend the meetings. If you are bringing a guest, please tell Ginny when making your reservations. This month s luncheon will be a sit down and has been selected by Chef Todd and Jane Waldemar. If you have food allergies or special diets, please put that in your as well and Chef Todd will make accommodations for you. A vegetarian meal is always available, just let Ginny know that you would like one when you RSVP. The days and times are: Thursday Dec 1: 10a.m. until 12:30p.m. or 12:30p.m. until 3:00p.m. Friday Dec 2: 10a.m. until 12:30p.m. or 12:30p.m. until 3:00p.m. Saturday Dec 3: 10a.m. until 12:30p.m. or 12:30p.m. until 3:00p.m. Sunday Dec 4: 1p.m. until 4 p.m. Each time slot needs 3 volunteers. 7 Each year at the Linden Garden Club Holiday Luncheon, there is a fantastic raffle for Baskets filled with treats and items. The funds raised from this raffle provide a Book Scholarship for a deserving SCC Horticulture student. Please donate an item/items of your choice or if you prefer to donate money, and the shopping will be done for you. Please have all your donations to me by December 3rd. This year there will be limit of 25 Baskets but each one will have a particular theme Christmas, Holiday, Gardening, Italian, Golf, Book Club, Spa, Chocolate, Coffee and/or Tea, Cooking, Shopping, Craft, etc,etc... and the decorated Baskets will raffled off at the Holiday Luncheon on December 8th in the St. Andrews Room at the Pinehurst Country Club. For you convenience, you may bring you donations to the October and November Meetings. There will be bags available in Club House Lobby to place donations in or if you prefer you drop them off any time at my home, 75 Pomeroy Drive. The door to the garage is always open. The support of all members is needed to make this a success. Please donate an item or two to help a local student who shares in the love of Gardening. Thanks to all of you for your continue support!! It will be next to Steed Hall at the Sandhills Community College. Woody plants (azaleas, hollies, camellias), perennials, daffodils, pansies and spring flowering bulbs will be available. call Johanna Westmen to pre-order or plants may be purchased the day of the sale. October 27 (Thursday) 1PM Living Flower Arrangement Workshop, Brent Heath of Brent and Becky's Bulbs, instructor. Sandhills Community College, Steed Hall/Stephens Laboratory. Participants will plant and take home a container with tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, muscari and anemone especially chosen for this area to create a living flower arrangement of blooms outdoors in the spring. 9 November 1 (Tuesday) Growing and Using Ginger, 10 AM - 12 Noon, Norma Burns instructor. Learn how to grow and store Culinary Ginger, and the amazing difference between fresh Baby Ginger and grocery store Ginger. Our growing season lends itself to producing Baby Ginger: once you taste it, you will never think of Ginger in the same way again. Workshop will include information on the health benefits and culinary delights of using Ginger. Class will participate in demonstration, preparation, and tasting. Sandhills Horticultural Gardens - Ball Visitors Center. $30.00 Horticultural Society members, $35.00 non-members. All must pre-pay to secure your place in class. Payment due at Registration. Space is limited to 40. November 16 (Wednesday) Delightful Desserts - Gluten & Dairy free, 10am - 11:30. Sueson Vess instructor. Sandhills Horticultural Gardens - Ball Visitors Center. $30.00 Horticultural Society members, $35.00 non-members. Sueson will present ideas for eating nutritious & delicious desserts, a food preparation demonstration and tasting. Payment due at Registration. December 8th (Thursday) 10AM - 12PM Maggie Smith Christmas Flower Arranging Workshop Maggie Smith of Maggie's Farm designs will conduct a workshop in which participants will make a holiday floral arrangement to take home for the Christmas holiday. Ball Visitors Center of Sandhills Horticultural Gardens. Horticultural Society members $35, non-members $40. All must pre-pay to secure your place in class. Payment due at Registration.
