2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR SIGNING UP FOR THE MEETING /LUNCHEON: Lunch will follow our program and business meeting. Please (preferred) Ginny Notestine at the following address: or by phone at by Monday, the 18 th of January to make your luncheon reservation. This date enables Ginny to get an accurate count for the Chef. Please note that you must notify Ginny in your if you will attend the meeting, but are not staying for lunch. ALSO, please note that you should receive an or phone call confirming that we received your RSVP within a few days of your . If you do not receive a confirmation, please get in touch with Ginny promptly! In the event that you make a luncheon reservation and find that you are unable to attend, you must cancel 48 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the lunch. Husbands and guests are always welcome to attend the meetings. If you are bringing a guest, please tell Ginny when making your reservations. This month s luncheon will be a sit down meal and has been selected by Chef Todd and Jane Waldemar. If you have food allergies or special diets, please put that in your as well and Chef Todd will make accommodations for you. A vegetarian meal is always available, just let Ginny know that you would like one when you RSVP. If everyone could use the ARIAL font and justified format, then it makes the newsletter more connected and easily readable. Dolores does a fantastic job of the newsletter and it takes a lot of time so anything that we can do to make her job a little less time consuming is helpful!

4 LINDEN GARDEN UPDATE The garden has been raked weekly and the lantana has been trimmed back along with other perennials and grasses. We will trim the other bushes after the last freeze in early spring. It has always been difficult to plant pansies in this garden even with deer and rabbit repellent so we apologize for lack of pretty flowers. The deer and rabbits are very plentiful in this particular area and we have had such bad luck in the past with pansies as well as violas that I hesitate to use the garden club's money again on these particular plants. Jane Waldemar suggested a repellent that she has had good luck with so perhaps we may try a small area next fall. Thanks for understanding. We will put a very light top dressing of mulch on the garden in early January (no cost to the garden club). It is a good time to do this with all the leaves and needles (somewhat) down and little raking required until spring. Please don't forget to admire the Edgeworthia Paper Bush in the right front of the garden that blooms in the winter. It is now budding.

5 BASKET RAFFLE RESULTS Ladies, your generosity has been heartwarming once again! We had a very slow start this year and as late as our November meeting, I feared we d be lucky to have baskets for the raffle. Amazingly, items began to appear on our porch and checks arrived in the mail. Your generosity enabled us to fill 40 lovely baskets for the raffle as well as the 2 donated, beautiful Santas. We bought eight $20 gift certificates from Aldena Frey, King & Hollyfield, Bed Bath & Beyond, Lady Bedford, Lowes Foods, Gulley s, Potpourri and Kohl s that were in baskets as well. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $ for our Sandhills CC scholarship fund for landscape/agricultural students! If you were able to attend the December Luncheon, you met one of the lovely recipients of our scholarships. Your efforts not only put money back into our local economy and community college but have helped local students to achieve their goals in a field that will improve the environment we all share. Our sincere thanks to each of you for your part in making this such a success again this year. Your basket committee, Karen Fogle, Rita Dixon-Kent, Arlene Knapp, Dianne Schultz, Donna Cappiello, Jan Benke, Joan Blair, Judith Krall, Lynn Hancock, Michele Gowan, Pat Rackowski and Sandy Hoffman PS On a house keeping note, if you won a basket and do not want the basket and packing materials, please drop them off on my back porch at 81 Glasgow Dr. It has been my pleasure to serve as the Chairperson for this wonderful event for the past three years. I am unable to do so next year and therefore am retiring from this position. We are looking for a volunteer to take it over. I have maintained a notebook containing details of everything I ve done these past three years and will be happy to help you in any way I can. There are wonderful ladies in this club and I ve had the good fortune of having 11 of them volunteer to be on our basket raffle committee with me this year. They have stepped up each time I ve needed someone to cover for me and have been a joy to work with. I cannot thank each of them enough. This is an annual, short term (6-8week) event and a joy to do. Air plants are houseplants in winter and can be put into almost any size container/bowl without soil or water. Learn plant varieties, suggestions for displaying air plants and air plant care. A variety of display vessels and air plants will be available for purchase. Workshop cost includes: Each participant will take home an air plant and display vessel of their choice. All must pre-pay to secure your place in class. Payment due at Registration. Space is limited to 30. March 2 (Wednesday) Demonstration & Tasting of Springtime Foods with Benefits, 10am - 11:30. Sueson will present ideas for eating nutritious & delicious natural foods, a food preparation demonstration and tasting. Payment due at Registration. March 22 (Tuesday) Breakfast and Painting with Jane, 10am - 12:30. Jane Casnellie instructor. Join Jane for coffee, tea and scones as she leads this workshop in painting a floral bouquet in acrylics. Each participant will take home a work of art that they have painted. All materials included...no experience necessary.
