16 12pm Tales of a Ludicrous Bird Gardener: Join Britain's best-known birdwatcher, Bill Oddie, on a journey through the gardens he has known and owned during his life, from a muddy backyard in Rochdale to the ever-changing almost psychedelic ludicrous kaleidoscope of his current garden in Hampstead, which has been an obsession for the past 25 years. Enlivened by stories of a heroic one-legged Great Tit, a Feng Shui Fox and a stampede of 100 rats, it is clear that the wildlife outside our back doors never fails to entertain and amaze. Bill Oddie 1pm My Life with Plants: Roy Lancaster is a world-renowned plantsman and a Vice President of the RHS. His chance find of a Mexican tobacco plant in a local allotment brought him fame as a Bolton schoolboy and sowed the seeds of his future career. Roy will introduce his new book My Life With Plants and share the fascinating story of one of the country s most celebrated plantsmen. Roy Lancaster 2pm Unusual Edibles in the City: Award-winning television presenter Nick Bailey will be talking about growing edibles in the city. City growing can mean restriction in space, but careful selection of unusual edibles means that you are able to get bountiful harvests from the smallest of balconies. Nick Bailey 3pm Prick: Cacti and succulent lover Gynelle Leon set up London s first cacti shop Prick in Dalston in 2016, she will be talking about her new book - her journey from office job to cactus shop and the rise of the succulent. Nigel Akehurst Thursday 26 October 11am Foraging from the Garden: Anne Swithinbank is a gardening broadcaster, writer and regular panellist on Gardeners Question Time. Anne will be talking about how to turn your plot however small into a miniature forest garden with soft fruit, rhubarb, herbs, edible flowers and a few veg. Edibles are as ornamental as any other plant, especially purple-flowered and podded peas, rainbow chard and coloured kales. Anne will also talk on what she grows in her garden for culinary use and explain how this creates more relaxed planting which is wildlife friendly. Anne Swithinbank 12pm A Taste of the Unexpected: Otter Farm owner Mark Diacono is an award-winning food writer and grower who also has a long association Mark Diacono 16
17 with River Cottage. He will be giving a whistle-stop tour of flavours beyond the usual suspects and talk about the delicious and beautiful plants that can add so much to your garden, whether it s an allotment or ornamental border - including sansho pepper, anise hyssop, society garlic, Asian pears and much more. The talk will feature autumnal tasters and example plants will be on display. 1pm Tales of a Ludicrous Bird Gardener: Join Britain's best-known birdwatcher, Bill Oddie, on a journey through the gardens he has known and owned during his life, from a muddy backyard in Rochdale to the ever-changing almost psychedelic ludicrous kaleidoscope of his current garden in Hampstead, which has been an obsession for the past 25 years. Enlivened by stories of a heroic one-legged Great Tit, a Feng Shui Fox and a stampede of 100 rats, it is clear that the wildlife outside our back doors never fails to entertain and amaze. Anne will also offer expert growing tips to ensure a plentiful harvest for your very own forager s feast. Anne Swithinbank 3pm Growing Exotic Herbs and Spices at Home: Emily Rae launched Plants 4 Presents in 2004 which operates from a family run nursery in Sussex.
