1 Second Thoughts on the NELA Master Gardeners Spring Gardening Seminar by Rose Lee I would like to second Kerry s thoughts on the spring gardening seminar. As an attendee, it was obvious to me that a lot of time and energy contributed by many individuals went into planning and implementing the event. As a fellow master gardener, I say, Job very well done. This pictorial review is presented as both a reminder of the good time had by those who were 1-5 Second Thoughts on Seminar 6 Rose Society News 6 Education Opportunity present and a sampling of what was missed by those who were unable to attend. Seminar attendees filled the convention room, which was adorned with Mardi gras colors from the floor up; while the tables were decorated with Louisianathemed gift baskets presented as door prizes to a lucky person at each table. 2 The knowledgeable presenters, Alan Futch, Kenneth Kelley, Bill Fontenot and Dan Gill, kept the audience enthralled throughout each presentation. Check out Kerry in his business attire (smile). Members of the Busy Bees Garden Club from Jena, LA posed with presenter Alan Futch after creating their own bouquets during a demonstration. Several members of the local Monroe Garden Club were also among the attendees. Continued on page 3 Gardener s Scoop February 2018 Page 2

3 Attendees got up close and personal while viewing the displays and demonstrations and talking with vendors. Door prizes and the grand prize were courtesy of Lowe s, Sammy s Plant World, West s Feed and Farm Supply and other businesses. NELA Master Gardeners enjoyed mixing and mingling during the breaks. 6 Educational Opportunity by Kerry Heafner The North Central Louisiana Master Gardeners (Ruston) are hosting 4 lunch hour seminars on the 4th Tuesday of Jan, Feb, March and April. 7 Hospitality Team Schedule by Debbie Beauvais Thank you to all members of Hospitality Team 4 who provided refreshments for January's meeting. Team 1 will host February's meeting and Team 2 will host the March meeting. Team 1 February June October Team 2 March July November Team 3 April August December** Team 4 January May September January 2019 **Everyone is asked to bring a food or beverage for the December meeting and party; ice is also needed. Ideally, some members from each team will work together to set up for the December meeting/party and clean up afterward. This has worked out well on a volunteer basis in the past. Those who would like to help with some decorations for the December party, please contact Debbie Beauvais, dbeauvais1953@gmail.com,. A team effort would be fun and not burden one person with this responsibility.
