15 OSSUARY An ossuary provides a large underground container with an opening aboveground. Cremated remains are placed in the container through a cylinder and are co-mingled with other cremated remains. A tablet or other form for recording the deceased s name is nearby for memorializing the loved one. An ossuary provides families with a permanent, dignified, secure, visible memorial that is environmentally friendly. The ossuary also tends to be one of the more economical ways of final disposition of cremated remains. An underground ossuary can also be an alternative to aboveground scattering gardens. To help with the design and pricing of the ossuary please consider the preferred site, size and aboveground access point. 14
