AddressPro Digital Dimming Technical Product Information

Installation Guidelines Control Wiring: Additional control wiring is required for AddressPro systems. The control wiring (violet and gray wires) may be configured for Class 1 or Class 2 installations. Install and wire these ballasts and controls in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) as well as all applicable federal, state and local electrical codes. Only qualified personnel should perform installation. Both control leads and power leads (Line, Neutral and Ground) must be connected to each ballast and each wallbox or ceiling mounted control. Only AddressPro controls will work with AddressPro ballasts and modules. Factory Programmed: AddressPro systems are pre-set at the factory to allow for use immediately upon installation with no programming required. The pre-set program configures all of the ballasts to be in Area 1, Zone 1 and has four pre-set scenes ranging from full bright to full dim. Simple programming with the handheld remote (ES5704CTL or ES5705CTL) and any wall box IR receiver is required to assign ballasts to different zones. Basic function programming with ES5704CTL handheld remote and an Infrared (IR) receiver: To Assign Zones: Using the ES5704CTL handheld remote, the digital IDs of the individual ballasts are captured and programmed into one of 12 zones. Zone assignments can easily be changed with the remote. To Control a Zone: The light levels of individual zones can be controlled with programmable remotes or the programmable wallbox control. To Program a Scene: After setting all of the zones at specific light levels, this scene can be saved by using the programmable remotes or wallbox controls. Up to 12 scenes with fade rates can be stored. To Recall a Scene: Simply press and release the scene number (1-12) on the remote or wallbox control. For ballast data, operating instructions for controls, installation guidelines and programming features, consult the Universal Lighting Technologies website at

AddressPro Troubleshooting Guidelines Additional Troubleshooting Techniques. In some cases, the troubleshooting methods outlined above may not lead to a quick detection and resolution of the problem. In such cases it is often beneficial to perform one or more of the following tasks: Divide and Troubleshoot the System: If a large system of AddressPro ballasts has an apparent malfunction but the specific component or location is unknown, the system can be divided somewhere near the center of the control circuit. If the malfunction persists on one side but not the other, further separations may help determine the actual failure site. Bypass Installed Control Wires: If the source of a malfunction cannot be assigned to a ballast or to the wires connecting it to the control system, disconnect the installed control wiring and connect a good control device using visible, external control wires. Ballast Substitution: After performing all steps mentioned above, if any of the luminaries still do not respond, then replace with a known good unit and try again. Control Substitution: After performing all of these troubleshooting techniques, if none of the lighting devices in the AddressPro loop respond to the control device, replace the control device with a known good unit. For further assistance or ordering information, contact Universal Lighting BALLAST or visit or our website at

Wiring Diagrams Case Styles Fixture wiring: Fluorescent fixtures must be equipped with non-shunted sockets that are used with rapid start and programmed start ballasts. Lamp wiring must be per diagrams on ballast labels.

AddressPro System Features and Components AddressPro is a protocol for the digital communication between the lighting devices. This digital protocol allows simplified control wiring that provides greater flexibility than traditional 0-10V analog systems. FEATURES: Programmable Zones: AddressPro technology allows the user to subdivide the loop into 12 zones (a number of light sources grouped together for simultaneous control) through programming after the system installation. Easy System Setup: All components in an AddressPro loop are connected in parallel to the two control wires. Even though all the ballasts share the same data bus, each individual component can be assigned to the zone of choice. Complete Flexibility: Each light source is shipped from the factory with a 28 bit unique ID. A remote is used to capture the ID of each light source and assign it to a zone. Programmable Scenes: AddressPro allows the user to program up to 12 recallable pre-set lighting scenarios called scenes. Easy System Reconfiguration: The reconfiguration of an existing AddressPro system (changes to the system functioning, scenes, zones the device belongs to, etc.) can be achieved through the programming without any hardware changes. Programmable Fade Time: This is the transition time to obtain the desired scene. Fade time is measured in seconds and is adjustable from 1 sec. to 9999 sec. Dimming Control Range: AddressPro ballasts provide reliable lighting control down to 1% for T5 and 3% for T8 and compact fluorescent lamps. System Size: Up to 250 ballasts and 10 control stations per control loop. Area Subdivision: Each system can be subdivided in up to 12 areas. Each area can then be divided into zones with controls programmed for operating the individual areas. All areas on a system can be globally controlled by a master control. COMPONENTS: AddressPro Ballasts: Universal offers a wide variety of AddressPro ballasts for T5, T8, CFQ and CFT lamps. Features include: - Universal input voltage ( volts) for installation flexibility. - Starts at any level without flashing. - Control input protected against mis-wiring. - Super LampGard lamp end-of-life protection. Wall Controls with IR Receivers: Universal offers three wall controls with features ranging from simple on/off and up/down control to scene programming and recall functions. The wall stations also have an infrared detector for receiving commands from the handheld remote. Handheld Remotes: Universal has three remotes that use infrared communication to perform programming and operation. Dimming Modules: Dimming modules are available for line voltage incandescent and low voltage halogen with either magnetic or electronic transformers. Ceiling Module Controls: Universal offers two ceiling module control units that are housed in a junction box and have a tethered infrared detector to receive commands from the remote. Occupancy Sensor to Dim-D Adapters: These modules translate third party, line-switching occupancy sensor signals into AddressPro commands. Rotary Switch for Joining/Separating Two Control Loops: Our wall-mounted rotary switch divides a large AddressPro control system into two loops. Ceiling Mount IR Receivers: These special ceiling mount IR receivers control the AddressPro components in conjunction with the AddressPro handheld remote.

AddressPro Application Examples Lighting levels can be controlled so that the presentation side of the room has either more or less light depending upon the media utilized. Halogen lighting is used to accent pictures or drawing charts mounted on two of the walls. A 4-scene wall control is used at the entrance. The ES5704CTL handheld remote is used for zone programming, as well as for scene programming and recall functions. With 14 lighting sources in this room, most of them can be set as their own zone if desired (up to 12 zones possible). Lighting zones can be set so that during A/V presentations, the lights near the front can be dimmed while lights in the rear can be set at higher levels. A 4-scene handheld remote is used in conjunction with the ceiling IR sensor for dimming control. Controls at the doors provide on/off and up/down control. Programming is done with an ES5704CTL handheld remote, which should be stored separately to prevent unauthorized programming of the lighting.
