1 Vol 15 - Issue 2 Summer 2018 RAMPART RECAP OF PREVIOUS QUARTER May 17th WIESA held their Annual Awards meeting and had an election of new board members. Check out pages 3 and 4 for all the details and meet the new board! June ESX was held in Nashville, TN, and an Advanced Intrusion Class was held August 1st and 2nd. This class allowed technicians the chance to come 1 step closer to becoming Level 2 certified! All participants passed their exam! Lisbon Rd., Brookfield, WI Board Meeting To Be Announced Q2 RECAP FAIM CLASS WIESA held a FAIM class at ADI on May 7th. We had 7 attendees this time around. Remember, if you have someone that wants to be Level 2 certified, this is 1 of 3 classes they NEED to have passed. Our next FAIM class will be held December 6-7, ELECTION OF NEW BOARD MEMBERS May 17th was the Annual Award Meeting and election of new board members! Everyone has been voted in and our new board looks like the following. MEET THE NEW BOARD MEMBERS Stuart Brehm, President Stuart is very excited for the opportunity to serve as the President of the Wisconsin Electronic Security Association, replacing the outstanding term of Leroy Lasky. Previously, he served as the Secretary and Vice President for a total of four years on the board. Relatively new to the industry, Stuart is enjoying his fifth year at TECC Security Systems, Inc. He looks forward to making new connections and continuing to provide valuable resources to all members. Bill Flesch, Vice President Bill Flesch has been in the low voltage industry for 30 years. His work history includes time with TCI, AT&T, ADT, Tyco Integrated Security and Johnson Controls. For 10 years between his time at AT&T and ADT, he was co-owner of Net Results, a low voltage company based out of Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, which was an authorized dealer for Brinks Home Security. Currently Bill is the Installation manager at Johnson Controls Security Solutions based out of Brookfield Wisconsin. 3 of 16
4 Tom Kenderish, Secretary Tom has been in the electronic security industry since He has served as an installer, sales person, and owner. He currently works at ADT Security Services as an install and service manager. Steve Garritson, Member at Large Steve started in the industry in January 1980 as a service tech. Since then he has worked for other security companies in different capacities and in 1998 he started his own company, Sentra Protective Systems. In 2007, he merged with Horgan Sales and Service to form H&S Protection Systems with offices in Pewaukee and Stevens Point, WI. This is his second go around with the State Association as he served as a membership chairman for 8 years. Steve s interests are traveling with his wife, fishing, hunting (not with his wife), old cars and enjoying his two grandchildren. Two more are due in December by his daughter and daughter-inlaw. Jesse O Kane, Treasurer Jesse is currently working in Madison WI for Per Mar Security Services as a General Manager on their electronic security side. He has been in the industry for 20+ years. Over that time he started as an installer and worked his way up to sales (residential, commercial and National Accounts) then Sales management and now General Manager. In his free time, he spends most of his time with his three daughters (Kennedy 16, Ellisyn 14 and Paige 10 plus their dog Ollie). They like to go camping on the weekends. John Dobratz, Associate Member at Large John started working at Alarm Products Distributors in Saint Paul, Minnesota in He now has 20 years experience helping installing contractors with products and support. John now owns APD with his two brothers. He is the Associate Member on the WIESA board and the membership committee chair. 5 2018 YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNERS Zachary Gross Son of Detective Charlene Craft, Waukesha Police Department Lauren Konkol Daughter of Fire Service Member Raymond Konkol, Waukesha Fire Department On May 17th, 2018, WIESA had the privilege, and honor, to award 2 outstanding high school seniors with a $1500 scholarship award to help further their education. Every year, WIESA receives dozens of high quality scholarship applicants that are reviewed by WIESA past presidents, to determine a winner in both the Police and Fire Department categories. This year we had no shortage of outstanding young adults apply. Our two winners excelled in all of their accomplishments including outstanding grades, extra curricular activities and volunteer work. Zachary Gross is the son of Detective Charlene Craft and graduated in June from Whitewater HS. Zachary is a 4.0 student and Class of 2018 Valedictorian. He has taken AP classes in Physics, Calculus I & II, Computer Science, English Language and Composition, and Literature. Zachary has volunteered for the Make-a-Wish foundation, the Fort Atkinson Food Pantry, Shop with a Sheriff, Adopt-a-Family Christmas shopping, and more. Zachary has been accepted at UW-Stout and will begin classes in fall to obtain a degree in Computer Science! Lauren Konkol is the daughter of Fire Service Member Raymond Konkol of the Waukesha Fire Department and graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran HS. Lauren is a 4.0 student and has received many awards throughout her 4 years of high school. Some accomplishments are: receiving the AP Scholar Award, Honor Roll all 4 years, WIAA Scholar Athlete Nominee, Academic All State Award and she has earned 7 Varsity letters in Cross Country and Track. Lauren has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, and at church. She has been a Wauwatosa Safety Town Instructor and a Community Kids Carnival Volunteer among many other services. Lauren has been accepted into Michigan Technological University where she will pursue her career of becoming a Chemical Engineer! With the help of outstanding people and companies throughout our industry, we are able to award deserving young adults with these scholarships. Since 2010, WIESA has been able to award over $22,000 in scholarships! Thank you for being part of a great industry!!!!
