3 Chapter 1 OVERVIEW The heavy duty Hornstrobe unit is especially designed to allow maximum installation flexibility and durability. A microprocessor continuously monitors all the device parameters and assures high-reliability and first-rate performance. A tamper output with a configurable balance resistor permits fullintegration with every type of system. Optimized flexibility allows you to choose the wiring method you prefer (activation and signalling by means of 2 or 3 wires, etc.). 8 A B C D E F G H Table 4: Tamper device Tamper screw Spacer Microswitch Screw location Microswitch-block location Rawplug Frontplate screw Frontplate screw location E D F C B H A G Lights signalling The strobe (Table 2, H) will flash at 2 second intervals in the event of tamper (wire cutting) or when activated via the +-F terminal. 2-3 STROBE FLASHER This LED (Table 2, E) will blink at 2 second intervals during the installation phase. During normal functioning, it will blink at half-second intervals if the battery drops below 11V (if this occurs, the horn and strobe flasher will shutdown). This LED will stop signalling the battery fault when the battery voltage restores to above 12V. If duly programmed, this LED can be activated directly via the LED terminal (refer to paragraph 3-4 Extra connections and Chapter 4 - Programming). If duly programmed, this LED (Table 2, F) can be activated via the LED terminal (refer to paragraph 3-4 Extra connections and Chapter 4 - Programming). STATUS LED PRG LED These LEDs (Table 2, G) signal the current Programming phase and any "SAVE" operations relating to the selected settings (refer to Chapter 4 - Programming). 9 Chapter 3 INSTALLATION The Hornstrobe should be mounted high up on an even surface, in such way that it is out of reach but clearly on view and therefore may serve as a visible deterrent against break-in. 1. Remove all power. Installation guidelines Before opening the hornstrobe, wait 30 seconds at least. Electric shock risk! 2. Open the device casing. 3. Configure the balance resistor (refer to paragraph 3-4 Extra connections), if you wish to forward tamper signals to the control panel. 4. Pull the connection wires through the cable entry (Table 2, O). 5. Using the wall plugs, attach the backplate to the wall (Table 2, N). Ensure that the grill (Table 2, M) is located on the under part of the device. 6. If you want to enable the tamper remove the microswitchblock from its location (Table 4, E), then insert into this location the spacer (Table 4, B) and the screw (Table 4, A); be careful the microswitch (Table 4, C) position is below the screw. 7. Locate the battery into its housing (Table 2, R) and complete the wiring. Ensure that the battery polarity is correct. 8. Complete the device wiring. The STATUS LED (Table 2, E) will blink at 2 second intervals during this phase. 9. Configure the device as described in Chapter 4 - Programming. 10. Using the screw locations (Table 2, N) for correct alignment, close the casing and secure it in place with the screws. The tamper microswitch (Table 2, I) will close and the STATUS LED will bink at half-second intervals. 11. Powerup the device. The STATUS LED will go Off. 3-1 WARNING! Note Installation 9

10 2 wire connection This standard wiring method triggers the device using a "Positive Removed" signal. 3-2 This wiring method needs to disable through programming the inputs +-B e +-F or to connect the terminals of these imputs with the + power terminal. The "Positive Removed" signal will trigger both the horn and strobe. 3 wire connection This wiring method triggers alarm signalling on the both the horn and strobe through the +-B and +-F inputs. The +-B and +-F inputs must be configured as "Negative Removed" (refer to Table 6 "Programming phases"). The wiring diagram shows a 3 wire connection configured as "Negative Removed". 3-3 The "Positive Removed" signal will still trigger both the horn and strobe. 10 Installation

11 Extra connections The STATUS and PRG LEDs (Table 2, E and Table 2, F) can be activated by connecting the LED input to Negative (-). 3-4 If you wish to forward tamper signals to the intrusion control panel, connect terminals 5 and 6 of the Hornstrobe terminal board directly to a terminal on the intrusion control panel. The balance resistance is zero at default but can be configured directly on the Hornstrobe motherboard by cutting the jumpers B1, B2 or B3 (Table 2, D). 12 Chapter 4 PROGRAMMING The Hornstrobe can be programmed only during the installation, therefore, it is necessary to ensure that: the device is not powered; battery and mains must be disconnected the tamper microswitch is open the intrusion control panel is set to ignore tamper on the Hornstrobe (e.g. in programming status) To change the default settings, work through the following steps: 1. Remove the Hornstrobe frontplate. 2. Powerup the device; the red LED will blink at 2 second intervals. 3. Press and hold the PROGRAM button (Table 2, B), programming LEDs B1, B2 and B3 (Table 2, G) will blink in binary sequence in order to allow you to select one of the 5 programming phases. 4. To select a phase, release the PROGRAM button when the LEDs indicate the combination that indicates the desired phase (refer to Table 6 "Programming phases"). 5. The combination of blinks on the STATUS and PRG LEDs indicates the current configuration of the selected phase. To change the configuration, press and release the PROGRAM button instantly until the desired combination of blinks appears on the STATUS and PRG LEDs. 6. To exit the programming phase, wait 20 seconds without touching the PROGRAM button. The Programming LEDs will blink to signal the end of the programming session. 7. Complete the installation phase in accordance with the instructions described in paragraph 3-1 Installation guidelines at step Programming
