8 ECANZ CHALLENGE - CLAUDELANDS EVENT CENTRE AUGUST 13 TH & 14 TH WINNERS ANNOUNCED It s been another great year of ingenuity and aptitude at the ECANZ Challenge After months of preparation the annual event took place in Hamilton this August, with the search for New Zealand s best electrical apprentices of the year starting all the way back in March and ending at the Claudelands Event Centre after two days of intense competition. The ten up-and-coming contenders from around the country fought off the best of the best in the five hour regional preliminary rounds, and were put through their paces in a complex final that saw their skills and electrical knowledge truly put to the test.the event was another amazing display of talent in New Zealand and as in previous years the competition was rigorous, but eventually the pools of five finalists from each division were whittled down to the two champions. The winner of the Commercial/Domestic Division was Rotorua s Cameron Shailer. He undertook off job training through ETCO and works for Kinetic Electrical. The Industrial Division category was won by Rob Stockley from Havelock North, who undertook off job training through EIT and works for Fruit Handling Systems. Both winners did themselves proud, working extremely hard and showing determination under pressure to come out victorious. Credit must also be given to their fellow finalists for making the challenge such an exciting occasion and a measure of the high calibre of electrical apprentices in New Zealand.
