Technical extracts from DG weekly mail EC Call for papers on sustainable agriculture and innovative equipment development Deadline abstract: This call for papers is part of the conference 3rd Rendezvous Techniques AXEMA. The conference, organised by the European Society of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng) and AXEMA, is directly leading up to SIMA 2019 that takes place in Paris February next year. The call is open for all topics related to the innovation of machines and systems for sustainable agriculture by agricultural and non-agricultural specialists. This conference will create an opportunity for exchanges between: R&D players from industry; academics; and Research sectors including non-agriculture specialists. Read more ISO/TC 23/SC 7 Working groups on mowers and harvesters met in Detroit. ISO 5718 series that references blades for agricultural mowers, and new work item ISO large flail mowers progressed well, and it is hoped that the blade series will conclude at the next meeting in Frankfurt in 2018.

5 Page 5 of 7 The large flail mower draft is still some way off but will follow ISO 4254 part 13 and US ANSI/ASABE S 639 standards in many of the technical requirements and criteria. The revision of ISO :1997 Equipment for harvesting, Combines and functional components, Part 1: Vocabulary, into ISO 6689, Equipment for harvesting, Combine harvesters and functional components, Vocabulary, and the Combining ISO :1997 Equipment for harvesting, Combines and functional components, Part 2: Assessment of characteristics and performance, with ISO 8210:1989 Equipment for harvesting, Combine harvesters, Test procedure, to create a new ISO 8210, Equipment for harvesting, Combine harvesters, Test procedure and performance assessment, took place. A new ISO standard for a residue test was noted as a future proposal. ASABE Conference 1769 participants were treated to the opportunity of attending hundreds of technical seminars in Detroit at the 111th edition of the annual conference. Excellent presentations of interest to sprayers, tractors and implements coupled with US standards mirror committees, took place. Many papers and presentations on Unmanned aircraft systems relating to spraying were well received. Sessions included Precision application of chemicals and fertilizers, UAV sensing, imaging, crop material application and field evaluation. Tom Bals (Micron) is the new interim Chair of US MS 23/6/2 Aviation group. Keith Hawken presented an AEA/UK update on standards, legislation and Brexit impact, which was welcomed with keen interest, to the STC 02 International standards group. Dr Kyle Logan, who is working out of the British Consulate in Chicago, but an official BEIS employee, reached out to the AEA in relation to working together on trade within the UK/USA portfolio. Dr Larry Gaultney (DuPont), well known in International sprayer circles, was awarded an ASABE fellowship. Rich Job (ex AGCO) was awarded the President s Citation Award for services to Cab/Air filtration committee work. Prof Bob Gustafson was awarded the Presidents Citation Award for services to the ASABE foundation, which has increased its funding revenue by 65%, raised to over $4 million, in the last 6 years. The AEA were part of the committee that developed a new standard for air quality systems for cabs, which received a 2018 standards development award. The conference theme centred on water security with Margaret Catley-Carlson (VC Canadian water network board) the key note speaker. ASABE in collaboration with the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE), announced a joint conference on global water security for agricultural and natural resources, to be held in Hyderabad, India, October 3-6, New President, Mr Maury V Salz (Claas Omaha Inc), took office replacing Prof. Stephen Searcy (Texas A&M university).
