10 Chapter 1 Chapter 1 For Safe Use of the Product For Safe Use of the Product For the safe use of the product, be sure to read the instructions below. 1.1 For Users of this Manual This manual is solely designed for technicians to set, maintain, check for this product and deal with trouble on the monitoring system. 11 Chapter 1 For Safe Use of the Product 1.3 Precautions for Handling For the safe use of the product, be sure to follow the precautions below Prohibited Uses Never disassemble or modify the product. Do not use the product under conditions that exceed its specifications. Otherwise, it may result in malfunction of the product, fire or injury. Do not use radio equipment such as transceivers, or mobile phones around the product. If electromagnetic waves are radiated to the product, signal cables or the transducer, the product may not provide satisfactory precision described in the specifications. Avoid any contact with the component or soldered parts of the instrument rack or the module. Otherwise, it may result in damage to or malfunction of the rack or the module. The instrument rack and the module are precision instrument. Avoid any excessive shock or vibration. Otherwise, it may result in damage to or malfunction of the product. Avoid a voltage resistance test or a withstand voltage test in any places other than specified. Otherwise, it may result in damage to the product. Do not change or adjust the settings during operation. Otherwise, it may result in an alarm generation and operation of the relay. Do not change or adjust the settings during operation. 12 Chapter 1 For Safe Use of the Product Compliances Use of this product requires expert knowledge. Be sure to follow the instructions in this manual when installing the product. Otherwise, it may result in malfunction of the product, fire or injury. Be sure to connect the earth cable. Otherwise, it may result in an electric shock, electrocution or malfunction of the product. Before installation, be sure to read the manuals for this product as well as other instruments that are to be connected. The use of this product requires expert knowledge of instruments, and the knowledge of any associated equipment. Before any contact with the product, be sure to touch the metal objects, etc. so that the static electricity is discharged. Static electricity accumulated in the human body may damage the product. Use a time-delay circuit protector. In-rush current caused by power activation may damage the product. The value of in-rush current is from a few to ten times higher than the normal level. (The value of in-rush current varies depending on the timing of power activation and the impedance of the power supply.) When carrying out a megger test, ensure that all the cables are disconnected from the driver (transducer) as well as the converter. After carrying out a megger test, ensure that any accumulated charge is discharged by short-circuiting prior to reconnection. Reconnecting the driver or the converter while the cables still carry a charge may damage the product. Be sure to connect the power input terminal to the power supply with the voltage and frequency advised in the specifications. Otherwise, it may result in damage to or malfunction of the product. Make sure to place the module in the instructed position when installing the module onto the instrument rack. Otherwise, it may result in damage to the product or malfunction of the turbine monitoring system. Ensure that all the fasteners on the instrument rack are tightly fastened and the instrument rack is securely fixed. Also, be sure to use module fasteners to fix each module properly. 10

13 Chapter 1 For Safe Use of the Product Be sure to perform the following for the stability of the product. - Place surge killers around the product, the related instrumentation equipment, and the relay around the signal cables to which these are connected. - Ensure that the screws are tightly fastened and the product is securely fixed. - Place the product in a metal cabinet, etc. and ensure that the lid is closed while the product is operated. - Use of ferrite cores (ZCAT /TDK) can expect to reduce the noise induced by the cables to a certain extent. It is recommended to use anti-noise devices in the case that the conditions surrounding the product are considered to be unfavourable. Contact the sales office you purchased the product from if any of the following occurs. Continued use of the product under any of the conditions below may result in fire or malfunction. - Abnormal odor is detected from the product. - The product is overheated. - The product is dropped. - The product package is damaged. Ensure that an interlock function is added to the product in order to prevent the product from making mechanical errors in the case it is damaged. Install the product in a place without the direct rays of the sun where the following conditions are satisfied. Do not store it in a hot and humid location or any location where corrosive gases are present. - Ambient temperature: -30 to 85 C - Ambient humidity: 20 to 90%RH (no condensation) 11

14 Chapter 2 Chapter 2 Overview of Temperature Monitor Module Overview of Temperature Monitor Module The Temperature Monitor Module monitors the temperature of each part of the rotating machine. It is capable of receiving input from up to six channels. In other words, a single monitor can monitor temperature at six locations. Supported input transducers include: thermocouples, three-wire type resistance thermometer bulbs and four-wire type resistance thermometer bulbs. Also, this module provides the recorder output corresponding to input signals and contact output, to outside equipment via the rear panel of the instrument rack. 2.1 Functions This section provides the basic description of the measurement function, display function, alarm function, output function and control function provided by the module Measurement Function Measurement Value Calculation The temperature detected from input signals is output as a measurement value Display Function Indicators on the Front Panel The indicators on the front panel show the OK alarm status. For details about each indicator, see "2.2 Names and Functions of the Individual Parts P.15". Information Displayed on MCL View By installing MCL View on the local PC, you can view various information regarding the module Alarm Function For details about the alarm setting for the temperature channels, see "4.6.2 Alarm Settings P.29". OK (Abnormal Input) Alarm If the input signal level of the transducer becomes abnormal, the OK alarm is output. Even when the input signal level returns to normal, the OK alarm is retained for approximately another 15 seconds by the off-delay timer. DANGER Alarm DANGER Alarm is output when any one of the measurement values exceeds the DANGER setting value. ALERT Alarm ALRET Alarm is output when any one of the measurement values exceeds the ALERT setting value. First-out Indication From among the channels for which the first-out indication function is enabled, you can identify the one to which the alarm (DANGER, ALERT) is output the earliest. For details about the first-out indication function, see "4.6 Temperature Channel Settings P.27". 12

15 Chapter 2 Overview of Temperature Monitor Module Alarm Delay You can set the delay time (from 0.0 to 99.0 seconds) for each channel to prevent DANGER Alarm or ALERT Alarm from being output by mistake due to noise or other reasons. For details about the alarm delay time setting, see "4.6.2 Alarm Settings P.29". Alarm Logic Alarms for several channels can be output via AND or OR. For details about the logic setting, see "4.7 Relay Setting P.31". Alarm Relay Mode Either NORMALLY DE-ENERGIZED or NORMALLY ENERGIZED can be selected by the relay. For details about the alarm relay mode setting, see "4.7 Relay Setting P.31". The use of NORMALLY ENERGIZED (non-energized alarm) is recommended for the alarm relay mode. The use of NORMALLY DE-ENERGIZED (energized alarm) may prevent the relay from being energized when internal power supply is in an abnormal state. Alarm Reset Methods From the following methods, select how the alarm should be handled when the input signal returns to normal: Auto-reset: The alarm status is cancelled automatically. Self-hold: The alarm status is retained until a short-circuit between RES1 and RES2 terminals on the instrument rack, or until the alarm reset operation on VM-771B MCL View, or until alarm reset operation using Modbus communication (optional). For details about the alarm reset options for the temperature channel, see "4.6.2 Alarm Settings P.29". For details about the reset options for alarm relay, see "4.7 Relay Setting P.31". First Low Alarm Bypass Function When this function is enabled, only the alarm display is activated if the first alarm detected after power-on is the Low alarm, in which case contact output is suppressed until the measurement value exceeds the value specified for the Low alarm. This function is useful for suppressing Low alarm output in cold machine prior to startup Output Function Timed-OK Channel Defeat By enabling this function, DANGER Alarm, ALERT Alarm, indication values and recorder outputs can be shut off when the OK alarm is output. For details about how to set timed-ok channel defeat, see the basic settings described in "4.6 Temperature Channel Settings P.27". Recorder Output The analog signals (voltage signals or current signals) proportional to the temperature are output from the recorder output connector on the instrument rack. For details about the recorder output setting, see "4.6 Temperature Channel Settings P.27". Contact Output Contact signals output from the relay are output from the contact output terminal block on the instrument rack. 13

16 Chapter 2 Overview of Temperature Monitor Module Control Function Danger Bypass This function shuts off DANGER Alarm on channels. While these are shut off, both the DANGER bypass indicator on Local Communication & Phase Marker Module and the DANGER bypass indicator on the MCL View window light up. This function can be operated from MCL View. Channel Bypass This function shuts off DANGER Alarm, ALERT Alarm, OK alarm, indication values and recorder outputs for channels. While the alarm output is shut off, the OK alarm indicator remains off and the Channel Bypass indicator remains lit on the MCL View window. This function can be operated from MCL View. While the bypass is enabled, the machine is not protected. Power-on Timer Mode This mode is activated for 15 seconds after power-on. While power-on timer mode is activated, the OK indicator flashes and all alarm functions are shut off. Point Difference between VM-704B and VM-704 Two types of the modules are available for the Temperature Monitor Module; VM-704B usable with VM-7B monitor and VM-704 usable with VM-7 monitor. There are restrictions as described below on the racks and slots to which each module can be installed. 18 Chapter 3 Chapter 3 Installation/Uninstallation of a Module Installation/Uninstallation of a Module This chapter describes how to install and uninstall a module. Even while the VM-7 monitor is running, a module can be installed or uninstalled without affecting other modules. Once a module is uninstalled, the alarm relay contact output terminal is in open mode. If the alarm output of the module is assigned to the relay of other module, uninstall the module using Channel Bypass. When the Channel Bypass function is used, there is no alarm output even if the measurement value exceeds the alarm setting value. Do not install the module in slots other than the one specified above. Otherwise, module failure could occur. Before any contact with the instrument rack or module, be sure to touch the metal objects, etc. so that the static electricity is discharged. Avoid any contact with the component or soldered parts of the instrument rack or the module. Otherwise, it may result in damage to or malfunction of the rack or the module. The instrument rack and the module are precision instrument. Avoid any excessive shock or vibration. 16

19 Chapter 3 Installation/Uninstallation of a Module 3.1 Module Installation Location (VM-7B Monitor) VM-704B Temperature Monitor Module can be installed in Slots 1 to 11. 20 Chapter 3 Installation/Uninstallation of a Module 3.3 Installing the Module 1 Insert the circuit board of the module by sliding it straight along the slits on the top and bottom of the instrument rack. 2 Turn the upper and lower module fasteners evenly with your hands until the module shoulder hits the turned edge of the instrument rack. (Do not use a tool to tighten the fasteners. The module is inserted into the connector located inside the rack.) Module Shoulder 3 Turn on the power of the module. Once the module is activated successfully, the LED on the front panel will either light up or flash. (Tighten the fasteners until the shoulder of the module comes in contact with the turned edge of the instrument rack. If the LED does not light up within 10 seconds, the module may be faulty. In such a case, immediately uninstall the module to prevent a heating hazard etc.) Turned Edge of the Instrument Rack Module Fasteners Over-tightening the module fasteners could deform the module. Make sure to install the module in the specified slot on the instrument rack. Ensure that all the fasteners on the instrument rack are tightly fastened and the instrument rack is securely fixed. 4 If MCL View and Device Config are connected, update rack configuration data. For details about how to update the software, see Updating the Information Displayed on MCL View P.19 and Updating the Information Displayed on Device Config P

21 Chapter 3 Installation/Uninstallation of a Module 3.4 Uninstalling the Module 1 If the alarm output of the module is assigned to other module, bypass that channel. (See Channel reset window in MCL View Operation Manual.) Module Fasteners 2 Loosen the fasteners on the module to be uninstalled until the fasteners become detached from the instrument rack. (The module disengages from the connector located inside the rack.) 3 Slowly slide out the module from the instrument rack. 4 If MCL View and Device Config are connected, update software data. For details about how to update the software, see Updating the Information Displayed on MCL View P.19 and Updating the Information Displayed on Device Config P.19. Updating the Information Displayed on MCL View If you have changed the rack configuration during installation or uninstallation of the module, you need to update the rack configuration information in the MCL View. (Immediately after installing a module, it is not displayed on the MCL View window. Immediately after uninstalling a slot, a cross is displayed over the position of the slot from which the module has been uninstalled.) Update the information according to the step described below. 1 Click the [CONNECT] icon. The latest information is reflected on the window. 1 Updating the Information Displayed on Device Config If you have changed the rack configuration during installation or uninstallation of the module, you need to update the rack configuration information in the Device Config. Update the information according to the steps described below. 1 Connect the PC and device with a USB cable or LAN cable. 2 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication] - [Connect]. Communication between Device Config and the device starts. 3 In the [Communication] menu, click [Get Configuration]. 4 Click [OK]. The latest information is reflected on the window

22 Chapter 4 Setting the Module Chapter 4 Setting the Module This chapter describes how to set the VM-704B & VM-704 Temperature Monitor Module. 4.1 Workflow This module can be set as follows: Set the internal switch. Recorder output selection switch See "4.2.1 Recorder Output Selection Switch". Load the setting. See "4.3 Loading/Writing the Setting". Edit the channel configuration. 23 Chapter 4 Setting the Module 4.2 Setting the Internal Switch Recorder Output Selection Switch To select the recorder output range, you need to change the switch on the module board. After using the switch, change the Recorder Output Range setting for the channel using Device Config. Before any contact with the instrument rack or module, be sure to touch the metal objects, etc. so that the static electricity is discharged. 2 The switches corresponding to each channel are as follows. CH1 SW701-1 CH2 SW701-2 CH3 SW701-3 CH4 SW701-4 CH5 SW701-5 CH6 SW701-6 OFF ON 2 1 Uninstall the module. (See "3.4 Uninstalling the Module P.19".) 2 Select the switch position appropriate to the desired recorder output mode. ON : Voltage output OFF : Current output 3 After changing the switch position, insert the module back in the slot. (See "3.3 Installing the Module P.18".) 4 Check that all the module fasteners are securely fastened. 21

24 Chapter 4 Setting the Module 4.3 Loading/Writing the Setting To change the module operation, you have to load the setting from the module, edit it, and then write it back to the module again. Load or write the setting according to the steps described below Loading the Setting 1 Connect the PC and device with a USB cable or LAN cable. 2 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication] - [Connect]. Communication between Device Config and the device starts. 3 In the [Communication] menu, click [Get Configuration]. 4 Click [OK]. Loading of the setting starts Writing the Setting When the channel configuration and settings are changed, an alarm may be output. Open the circuit between each relay and the connection system, as necessary. During communication between the device and Device Config, do not turn off the device power or disconnect the communication cable. Otherwise, the setting values changed using Device Config may not be reflected in the device. When you write the setting, the measurement values in MCL View and host network may disappear. When you write the setting, the measurement values may vary. 1 In the [Communication] menu, click [Set Configuration]. 2 Click [OK]. Writing of the setting starts. Point Writing Mode Two modes are available for writing the setting from Device Config to the module. - With [Set Configuration], the setting is written to all modules on the instrument rack. It may take some time to transfer the setting to all modules. - With [Set Slot Configuration], the setting is written to the modules in the selected slots. 1 22

25 Chapter 4 Setting the Module 4.4 Editing the Channel Configuration Check that the internal switch settings are correct before proceeding to edit the channel configuration. Connect the PC with the VM-7 monitor and start Device Config. 1 In [Device Tree] in the main window, select the module whose channel configuration you are going to edit. 2 Click [Change Channel Type] on the [Edit] menu. The [Channel Configuration] window appears From [Channel List], select the channel whose function you want to change. 4 From [Monitor Type] list, select the function to be assigned to the channel. The following functions can be assigned to a channel (None) Temperature Select this function if you are not using the channel. Select this function if you are using the temperature monitor. 5 Click the [Change] button. 6 The change is reflected in [Channel List]. Click the [OK] button to confirm the change. 23

Alarm: Determine the delay time and reset method for the output generated immediately after alarm identification. Relay: Determine the delay time and reset method for the output generated immediately after relay logic calculation. * Make sure that the same output is selected for all modules on the same rack. 27 Chapter 4 Setting the Module Point Setting the Alarm/Relay Control Select With this monitor, you can select whether to apply the output delay time (Delay) and reset method (Auto Reset/Self Hold) of the signals to the alarm signals or to the relay control signals of the relay logic calculation result. When "Alarm" is specified for "Alarm / Relay Control Select", the output delay time and reset method are applied to the signals for OK, DANGER, and ALERT alarms. In this case, you need to consider the influence of the output delay time and reset method of each alarm signal when complex relay logic is configured. When "Relay" is specified for "Alarm / Relay Control Select", the output delay time and reset method are applied to the signals for the relay logic calculation result. In this case, the output delay time and reset method can be set at one time even when a number of alarm signals are combined by the relay logic. However, display of the monitor LED and alarm signals of the MCL View, and alarm signals of the communication data always operate as same as the conditions when the output delay time is set to 0 seconds and the reset method is set to Auto Reset. 25

28 Chapter 4 Setting the Module Point Display colors and background colors of the setting value on Device Config The font colors and background colors indicate the current state of the setting items in Device Config. Examples are shown below. Normal font: The value has not been changed. Black bold font: The value has been changed but not yet specified. This value has not been set to the monitor or saved in a file. Red bold font: This value can be set. However, some sort of constraint/limit exists or the value is not recommendable. (Warning value) Yellow background & red bold font: The value does not operate the monitor normally. This value cannot be set or saved. (Error value) Yellow background: The value cannot be selected. 26

29 Chapter 4 Setting the Module 4.6 Temperature Channel Settings This section describes how to set the temperature channels Basic Settings (Temperature Monitor) Set the basic functions related to the temperature monitor From [Device Tree] on the left of the window, select the [Temperature] node. 2 On the upper right of the window, select the [Channel] button to display the relevant settings. 3 Set or check the following items. Information Channel Name Tag Name Enter the channel name as necessary. The entered name will be displayed in the bar graph window of MCL View. A maximum of 60 characters can be entered. * If over 20 single-byte characters are entered, or if the number of double-byte characters or a total number of single-byte and double-byte characters exceeds 15 characters, the entered characters may not be displayed in MCL View. Enter the tag name as necessary. The entered name will be displayed in the bar graph window of MCL View. A maximum of 60 characters can be entered. * If over 20 single-byte characters are entered, or if the number of double-byte characters or a total number of single-byte and double-byte characters exceeds 15 characters, the entered characters may not be displayed in MCL View. 27

Down Scale (0%): Output the value equivalent to 0% of the monitor range. Down Scale (0V/0 ma): Output 0 V or 0 ma. Up Scale (>110%): Output the value exceeding 110% of the monitor range. First Out Timed-PowerON Low Alarm Bypass Select whether to enable or disable the first-out function. By enabling this function for the channels, it is possible to specify the channel on which the alarm is output the earliest from those channels that the first out function is active. Off: Disabled On: Enabled Select whether to enable or disable the First Low Alarm Bypass function. Off: Shut off the first Low alarm. On: Do not shut off the first Low alarm. 31 Chapter 4 Setting the Module Output Recorder Output Range Select the range for recorder output. If you change the output range, you may need to change the internal switch setting. For details about the output range setting, see "4.2 Setting the Internal Switch P.21". 4 to 20 ma (Recorder output selection switch OFF) 1 to 5 V (Recorder output selection switch ON) 0 to 5 V (Recorder output selection switch ON) 0 to 10 V (Recorder output selection switch ON) Point First Low Alarm Bypass Function When this function is enabled, only the alarm display is activated if the first alarm detected after power-on is the Low alarm, in which case contact output is suppressed until the measurement value exceeds the value specified for the Low alarm. This function is useful for suppressing Low alarm output in cold machine prior to startup. To reset this function, disable the first Low alarm and then enable it again Alarm Settings Set the alarm functions for the temperature channels From [Device Tree] on the left of the window, select the [Temperature] node. 2 On the upper right of the window, select the [Channel] button to display the relevant settings. 3 Set or check the following items. 29

32 Chapter 4 Setting the Module The value set for DANGER Alarm and ALERT Alarm should not exceed 110% of the monitor range. Setting a value in excess of 110% can prevent the alarm from being identified. If the output delay time set for DANGER Alarm and ALERT Alarm is short, chattering may occur in the alarm output. If the input signal is unstable, set an appropriate delay time that is long enough. 33 Chapter 4 Setting the Module 4.7 Relay Setting This section describes how to set the alarm relay. Six alarm relays have been built on this module. The respective alarm relays from the same module can be combined for logical calculation and output. The following two types of relay logic are available for operating the relay. Relay Logic Function Standard Relay Logic (Relay Logic 1) Calculates the alarm signals from the same module by combining them, then outputs them to the relay. Outputs special signals to the contact. Multistage Relay Logic (Relay Logic 2) Calculates the alarm signals from the same module or the (VM-7B monitor only) other modules by combining them, then outputs them to the relay. Configures a redundant relay with the logic settings identical to the other alarm relay in the same module. In the subsequent sections, the following items are set for each alarm relay: Operation of the alarm relay The standard relay logic (Relay Logic 1) of the alarm relay The multistage relay logic (Relay Logic 2) of the alarm relay (VM-7B monitor only) * Select either the Relay Logic 1 or Relay Logic 2 for setting Operation Settings Specify the settings related to the alarm relay operation From [Device Tree] on the left of the window, select the [Temperature] node. 2 On the upper right of the window, select the [Relay] button to display the relevant settings. 3 Set or check the following items. Outputs an alarm signal when any one of the relay logic conditions specified for Operand 1 to Operand 3 is satisfied. Outputs DANGER alarm which is the type 3 of the special alarm logic. It is possible to be set for the channels of Operand 1 and Operand 2. Output ALERT alarm which is the type 3 of the special alarm logic. It is possible to be set for the channels of Operand 1 and Operand 2. Outputs abnormality in the communication between Local Communication & Phase Marker Module and this module. Remain logic memory Displays the remaining amount of relay logics that can be registered. * In case of the monitor module, up to 63 elements (alarm signal and each operator) can be entered in the relay logic entry field. 7 Relay logic entry field AND, OR, NOT, ( ) BS Slot, Channel, Signal, Set Redundant relay setting A relay logic can be entered by entering texts or using the buttons below the entry field. "*", "+", "!", "(", and ")" can be entered in the entry field by clicking the respective buttons. Deletes the elements prior to the cursor position in the entry field. The signal sources (Slot, Channel, and Signal) can be entered in the entry field by clicking the respective buttons. Select a signal source, then click [Set] to enter the source in the entry field. 41 Chapter 5 Adjustment of the Module Chapter 5 Adjustment of the Module This chapter describes how to adjust the Temperature Monitor Module. Adjust the channels of this module according to the following steps. The input signal and monitor range are required to be set in advance. 1 Connect a measuring instrument to the transducer input terminal on the instrument rack. (Refer to "5.1 Connecting the Equipment (Connecting the Input Terminals)".) 2 Connect a digital multimeter to the recorder output terminal on the instrument rack. (Refer to "5.2 Connecting the Equipment (Connecting the Output Terminals)".) 3 Output the signal corresponding to 0 to 100% of the monitor range from the measuring instrument and adjust the measurement value. (Refer to "5.3 Adjusting the Measurement Values".) 4 Output the signal corresponding to 0 to 100% of the monitor range from the measuring instrument and adjust the recorder output. (Refer to "5.4 Adjustment of Recorder Output".) 5 Perform the above steps for all the channels to be adjusted. 5.1 Connecting the Equipment (Connecting the Input Terminals) Refer to the figure below and connect each piece of equipment. The connection mode differs by the transducer used. The connection mode for the thermocouple, three-wire type resistance thermometer bulb, and four-wire type resistance thermometer bulb is <TC>, <RTD-3wire>, and <RTD-4wire>, respectively. If you are using a thermocouple as a transducer, VZ-73 must be mounted on the rear panel of the instrument rack for cold junction compensation. Be sure to mount VZ-73 in a specified location before proceeding to perform this adjustment. 39
