The Market is open every Sunday from October through the end of May from 10am 2pm. BEACH CLEAN UP Semi-Annual event held at Upham beach. Meet us at the Upham beach concession stand and join us to help beautify our local beach. Saturday October 14th from 9-11am. TRUNK OR TREAT EVENT AT HORAN PARK, 7701 BOCA CIEGA DRIVE. The St. Pete Beach Recreation Department and Gulf Elementary Magnet PTA invite you to Trunk or Treat on Thursday, October 26th from 5:30-7pm. This free event will be held at Horan Park located at 7701 Boca Ciega Drive. Enjoy a fun and safe night with the family as you trick or treat through our parking lot. There will be music, food and a bounce house. We are still looking for individuals/businesses to decorate their trunks and hand out candy to costumed kids. It is FREE to enter and participate. PETE BEACH COMMUNITY CENTER The St. Pete Beach Community Center has new Senior Excursions on the schedule for the fall. The excursions are a great way for local seniors to travel with friends. The new trips are as followed: October 28th Mount Dora Craft Festival (9am-4pm) and December 16th ICE at Gaylord Palms* (8am-4pm, must register by Nov 13th). All excursions will depart from St. Pete Beach Community Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Dr. All participants must pre-register the Wednesday prior to the excursion. Each trip is $15; Additional $25 for the ICE admission collected in advance for the group rate pricing. October 2, Consider this scenario: It s 2 o clock in the morning. You and your family are fast asleep when you awaken to the smoke alarm sounding and the smell of smoke. What do you do? If you and your family don t have a plan in place, it could jeopardize your safety, or even prove deadly. In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. That s why home escape planning is so critical in a fire situation. It ensures that everyone in the household knows how to use that small window of time wisely. This year s Fire Prevention Week theme, Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out! works to better educate the public about the critical importance of developing a home escape plan and practicing it. The St. Pete Beach Fire Department is working in coordination with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the official sponsor of the Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years, to reinforce those potentially life-saving messages. Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14, Home escape planning is one of the most basic but fundamental elements of home fire safety, and can truly make the difference between life and death in a fire situation, said Lorraine Carli, NFPA s vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. In support of Fire Prevention Week, we encourage all St. Pete Beach households to develop a plan together and practice it. A home escape plan includes working smoke alarms on every level of the home, in every bedroom, and near all sleeping areas. It also includes two ways out of every room, usually a door and a window, with a clear path to an outside meeting place (like a tree, light pole, or mailbox) that s a safe distance from the home. NFPA and the St. Pete Beach Fire Department offer these additional tips and recommendations for developing and practicing a home escape plan: Draw a map of your home with all members of your household, marking two exits from each room and a path to the outside from each exit. Practice your home fire drill twice a year. Conduct one at night and one during the day with everyone in your home, and practice using different ways out. Teach children how to escape on their own in case you can t help them. Make sure the number of your home is clearly marked and easy for the fire department to find. Close doors behind you as you leave this may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire. Once you get outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building.

5 How to make a Home Fire Escape Plan Prevention Week Since 1922 Draw a map of your home. Show all doors and windows. Visit each room. Find two ways out. All windows and doors should open easily. You should be able to use them to get outside. Make sure your home has smoke alarms. Push the test button to make sure each alarm is working. Pick a meeting place outside. It should be in front of your home. Everyone will meet at the meeting place. Make sure your house or building number can be seen from the street. Talk about your plan with everyone in your home. Learn the emergency phone number for your fire department. Practice your home fire drill! Make your own home fire escape plan using the grid provided on page 2. 6 How to make a Home Fire Escape Plan Memorize your fire department s emergency phone number and write it below: Prevention Week Since 1922 Draw a floor plan or a map of your home. Show all doors and windows. Mark two ways out of each room. Mark all of the smoke alarms with SA. Smoke alarms should be in each sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home. Pick a family meeting place outside where everyone can meet. Remember, practice your plan at least twice a year! Grown-ups: Children don t always wake up when the smoke alarm sounds. Know what your child will do before a fire occurs.
