13 Choosing the right plants is crucial for the Green City The right plant in the right place! -Depending on many specific circumstances -Effective (low maintinance) -Knowledge of plants; how and where to use them

14 Current requirements for a Green City demands for large-scale durable plantings: 1. Healthy and strong (environmental friendly) 2. Fitting a low-maintenance regime (budgets are limited) 3. Ornamental value (increasing demand and influence by citizens)

15 Examples and trends in treenursery products to be used in a Green City -Low groundcovering ornamental shrubs and roses (weed surpressing and little pruning needed) -Healthy and strong -Evergreen or leaves long-retained for maximum groundcovering -Roses on their own roots in connection with mechanical pruning -Also to be used as a (low) pruned hedge -Long flowering period, roses and shrubs are repeated-flowering and scented -Possible mechanical pruning -Environmental friendly for birds, bees and butterflies etc.
