Before Entering either Flower Show consider - Flower and Garden is for amateur gardeners only. Amateur means any person who is involved in gardening or floriculture for pleasure only. This person does not derive income from his or her gardening or floriculture activities. You are required to pre-register. Class Forms are only accepted on Entry Day. All plant material in horticultural specimen classes must be grown by the exhibitor, from seed or transplants. Container grown must have been established in the container for at least 3 months. Flowers for Design may be purchased. Artificial flowers and silk flowers are not permitted. Dry materials may be treated. Fresh plant material may not be treated, or in any way artificially altered by paint, dye, stain, etc. No endangered species or extremely invasive plants or plant material allowed, including Oriental Bittersweet, Miscanthus, etc. Suggestions on conditioning flowers for exhibit: Cut flowers in the morning and place in tepid water; or the night before, put in warm water, and leave in a cool place. Do not strip all leaves from the stem. Cut stems longer than required so there is enough to trim during the entry process. When Entering at the Fair - When entering either show, please come early enough to allow time to get all your flowers entered and tagged before the 6:00pm deadline. Work tables are provided. Please allow yourself one or two hours as a minimum time. Each exhibitor is allowed one (1) class form for first show and second show. Exhibitor must have registered online prior to entry deadline. All cut horticultural specimens must be exhibited in clear glass containers. Exhibitors must supply their own clear glass container, preferably with a small neck. Containers must be clean and debris free. Horticultural entries displayed in any container other than clear colorless glass may be disqualified. Wedging with green floral styrofoam is permitted for specimens. Entrants provide their own wedging material. Plants and containers weighing more than 30 pounds may be disqualified, if staging becomes too difficult. Most specimens have a height limit. Unless otherwise stated, 24 height is maximum. Cut stem at an angle and place in container until it touches the bottom. Measure specimen from top of plant to cut end. Remove any leaves below water line in the container. Any class that does not specify a color will mean any color. A spray consists of at least one open flower with one or more buds. Entry tags are created after the Class Form is completed and returned to the Registration Table. The Entry Department will print the entry tags for your exhibits. To ensure you receive the maximum points from the judges, all horticultural specimens must be correctly labeled with botanical name and common name of plant (ex. Sedum - Autumn Joy). Correct labeling may be a deciding factor for judges in case of a tie. If entry tag does not match the exhibit, the entry will not be judged. Exhibitors are responsible for knowing what flowers and what class to enter. Upon request, Master Gardener volunteers will assist in identifying correct botanical names for your flower entries, and the CORRECT class to enter. When the exhibitor leaves the Entry Area, all entries with a tag will be placed on the risers by EMGs. Entry tags will not be corrected after Exhibitor leaves the building. 81 F L O W E R & G A R D E N
