Exhibits that do not conform to the rules will be disquali ed. Rules: 1. All exhibits must be grown by the exhibitor. 2. Ar cles improperly classi ed will not be judged. 3. Where there is no compe on a ribbon may be given (if worthy) with corresponding money paid. If in a class no exhibits are worthy, neither ribbon nor prize money will be paid. The decision of the judge is nal. 4. Fair officials will take every precau on for the safe keeping of exhibits a er their arrival and arrangement in the building, but will not be responsible for any damage or loss that may occur. 5. Ar cles must be properly tagged before arriving on grounds. Entry tags will be mailed when entry forms are received. 6. Each exhibitor is limited to one (1) entry per class. Except in Division 7 Roses, where a maximum of two (2) entries per class is permi ed. Age of contestant on July, 12, 2017 determines the category for compe on. 7. If exhibit is le prior to check in mes, exhibit must understand exhibit is le at his/her own risk. 8. All hor culture classes are open to any amateur grower. Commercial exhibitors are not eligible. 9. Po ed plants must have been in possession of exhibitor for three (3) or more months prior to show. Exhibitors must provide saucers and include with your po ed plant for display

2 10. Containers for all cut specimens will be furnished by the State Fair. Wedging is permi ed. 11. Only one (1) plant per container with excep on of begonias, coleus, hanging plants and any large house plant, container and plant size unlimited. 12. Plants should be groomed before exhibi ng. Remove dead foliage and spent owers. Exhibits in bad condi on will not be accepted. 13. Hor culture de ni ons: A stalk is the stem of the plant. A spike is a lengthened ower cluster (gladiolus). A spray is a main stem with wide side branches and blooms on all sides. 14. Judges may subdivide or combine hor culture Classes by cul var, color or type. Hor culture exhibits are judged for hor culture perfec on, not just for size or age. 15. An exhibitor under the age of 18 by July 12, 2017, must enter the junior hor culture. If a class is not offered in the junior division, exhibitors may then enter regular divisions. (Example they may enter Division 10 Class 312 Giant Cactus Zinnias but they cannot enter Division 4 Class 146 Giant Zinnias. However, they may enter Division 3 Class 60 Gloriosa Daisy because it is not offered in Division 10). 3 Wanda Rodgers Memorial Award Sponsored by Mike and Jeanie Wyatt Wanda Rodgers( ) loved the State Fair of West Virginia and served as Superintendent of Department L - Needlework for 30 years. The beautiful quilts were her Specialty. The State Fair Flower Show also held a very special place in her heart and she exhibited in Department M - Flowers for over 40 years. She treasured and babied her African Violets. Each year, she won numerous ribbons and year after year she has Best of Show. This award will be presented annually in her honor and will be presented to the exhibitor with the most points in Department M, Division 1 African Violets. 24 Mary Bell Memorial Award Sponsored by Mike and Jeanie Wya Mary Bell ( ) was an exhibitor in Department M, for over 60 years. She was a cer ed ower judge, ac ve garden club member and known throughout the community for her beau ful ar s c ower arrangements. When her health failed and she had to move to an assisted living facility, she con nued to enter owers that she was able to raise in her room and each year, won ribbons. The State Fair Flower Show held a very special place in her heart and this award will be presented annually in her honor.
