1 NINTH DEPARTMENT FLOWERS Kevin Horst, Superintendent, Evenings Vicky Puster, Superintendent, Evenings Jenna Beacon, Sonya Beacon, Ed Morris, Judy Ratzel, and Anita Roller, Assistants Entries close August 19, Competition will be confined to those living in Wayne County or belonging to a Wayne County Garden Club. Buss Hall will be open from 10:00am-10:00pm all days except Sunday, which will be open from 11:00am-10:00pm. Only authorized persons will be allowed in the building from 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. except Saturday,Tuesday and Friday morning. General Rules 1st and 2nd Shows 1. Entry is open to any amateur including Juniors (ages 16 and under) (a person who grows or arranges flowers for pleasure and not as a profession) in Wayne County or belonging to a Wayne County Garden Club including Fair Committee. 2. All exhibits must be properly registered at the Secretary s Office in the Grandstand. Entry tags with exhibitor s entry number, correct department and class under which competition is desired must be with exhibit. 3. Exhibits not meeting the specifications of the schedule will be disqualified. When the schedule calls for a definite number, a greater or lesser number will disqualify exhibit. 4. All tables will be covered with beige burlap or white plastic unless stated otherwise. 5. Judging will be by the Standard System. 6. One first, one second, one third and more than one honorable mention (in the event of outstanding quality) may be awarded in each class. The Judges may, at their discretion, withhold any award, even though it may be the only exhibit in the class. 7. Judging will be open and oral, and will start at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017, and at 12:00 noon Tuesday, September 12, Judges decision is final. 8. Premiums will be paid only from awards as they appear on the books and not from ribbons, as they often become misplaced in moving. Ribbons will not be sent in the mail. 9. The management, although exercising all due care, will not be responsible for loss or damage to containers or any personal property. Please put identification on all containers, accessories, etc. 10. Junior Rules same as Adult unless stated otherwise. 11. Please read all the rules carefully. If there are any questions, please call a flower committee member. HORTICULTURE RULES FOR EXHIBITORS 1. Exhibitor may make 10 entries as desired in any class, providing each is a different named variety. 2. Entries must be named varieties and be disbudded unless schedule states otherwise. VARIETY NAME MUST APPEAR ON FRONT OF ENTRY TICKET. There will be no first place award given to an unnamed entry. 3. Classes may be withdrawn, combined, divided, subdivided, if number of entries warrants. 4. Containers (clear glass only) must be furnished by exhibitor. 5. Container must be large and heavy enough to hold the horticulture exhibit securely. 6. All horticulture exhibits must be grown by the exhibitor. 7. All horticulture exhibits must include attached foliage. 8. Definition of a spray: a single main stem with blooms or florets borne on pedicels or lateral branches, led by a terminal bloom, which blooms first. FIRST SHOW Saturday, Sunday & Monday, September 9,10,11, 2017 The first show will be staged (brought in) on Friday, September 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and judged Saturday, September 9, starting at 9:00 a.m. It is imperative exhibits for first show be removed from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11, unless otherwise stated. If ribbons, containers or specimens are not removed during the allotted time, the committee will not be responsible. ALL EXHIBITORS MUST BE OUT OF THE BUILDING BY 9:15 P.M. Any item having its own class in either the first or second show cannot be entered in classes 20 & 21. THE POT CANNOT EXCEED 18 IN DIAMETER. NO EXTERNAL PROPS OR PLANT STANDS. NO DOUBLE POTS. All house plants displayed in containers with drainage holes must be accompanied by saucers. All house plants remain for the duration of the fair. ONE PLANT TO EACH CONTAINER EXCEPT THOSE THAT GROW NATURALLY MULTIPLE. No plant shine is permitted on house plants. No 1st place awards given to unnamed entry.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS 1. Exhibitors are limited to ONE (1) entry in each class or sub-class. Repeating same arrangement used in previous shows is prohibited and is automatically disqualified. 2. ALL EXHIBITS must be kept fresh by the exhibitor. 3. SOME PLANT MATERIAL MUST BE INCLUDED IN ALL CLASSES. 4. Exhibitors must list all plant material on the entry tag. 5. NO ARTIFICIAL plant material (silk, etc.) permitted in any exhibit. NO ARTIFICIALLY COLORED plant material permitted except in classes so stating. No fresh plant material may be artificially colored or painted. 6. Entry must be the work of the Exhibitor. 7. Extra foliage, bases, dried materials and accessories are permitted in all classes unless stated otherwise. 8. Plant material used in artistic arrangements need not be grown by the exhibitor. However, NO STORE BOUGHT FLOWERS permitted except in Garden Club Exhibits. 9. Classes may be withdrawn, combined, divided, subdivided, if number of entries warrants. A Satellitic design is a threedimensional creative design,with only one smaller design of the same color,form and/or texture placed near its base, having a curving connective line that becomes a vital part of its rythmic pattern. The main or larger design should be placed in a tall, creative container, with the dominance of plant materials rising from the top of the container. Colors,forms, and/or textures of the plant materials found in the main design must be repeated in the smaller design. The curving connective line of plant or man-made material must be placed in or near the container's top curving downward to one smaller container or object placed near the base of the main design. The building will be open evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., September 6-7,2017. Exhibits may be worked on during the above-mentioned times or special arrangements may be made with either Kevin or Vicky for additional hours. SECOND SHOW Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, September 12, 13, 14, 2017 The second show will be staged (brought in) on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Exhibitors bringing in flowers after 8:00 a.m. will be required to produce a ticket at the gate. Exhibitors are permitted to drive onto the grounds to deliver their exhibits using the gate at Buss Hall. Judging will be on Tuesday, September 12, at 12:00 noon. Exhibits must remain in place until 7:00 a.m. Friday, September 15. Exhibits are to be picked up between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Friday, September 15. If exhibits are brought to the building before Tuesday morning, the committee WILL NOT be responsible for them. General rules for second show same as first show.
