EXHIBITS MAY BE BROUGHT TO THE LOADING DOCK NUMBER E8. HAND TRUCKS WILL BE PROVIDED. 1. See General Rules on Page Exhibitors are limited to one entry in each class unless otherwise specified. 3. All exhibitors must keep their entry tag stubs and present them to the Superintendent at the end of each show to claim their entries. To assist with check in, please present tags in numerical order. Ribbons and awards may not be presented until official tally is complete. 4. EXHIBITS WILL BE ACCEPTED as indicated AT THE HEADING OF EACH specialized show. ENTRIES WILL CLOSE PROMPTLY AT SPECIFIED TIME. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE JUDGED BUT MAY BE PUT ON DISPLAY. EXHIBITORS WHOSE ENTRIES ARE ACCEPTED ONCE THE FAIR BEGINS ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 16 th WILL BE REQUIRED TO PRESENT AN EXHIBITOR TICKET OR PAY FAIR ADMISSION. FOR INFORMATION ON EXHIBITOR TICKETS, PLEASE REFER TO PAGE An exhibitor winning first prize in a class one year is barred from exhibiting the same article in that class at any subsequent State Fair. 6. GROOMING SPACE - A minimum of grooming tables will be set up on the exhibition floor during the time entries are accepted. Exhibitors are requested to make only a nominal amount of grooming and assembling on the exhibition floor. Exhibitors must place their exhibits under the guidance of department workers. 7. In order that the exhibition may open promptly, all exhibitors must leave the exhibition floor as soon as their exhibit is placed and remain off the floor until judging is completed. 255

2 8. REMOVAL - No exhibit or part of an exhibit shall be removed from the Hall at any time during the show. Any removal will forfeit their premiums. Any exhibits and ribbons not removed at the proper time indicated for each show will be disposed of. 9. RESPONSIBILITY - The Kentucky State Fair will not be responsible for loss or damage to exhibits or personal property of exhibitors but will exercise utmost care for the protection of all exhibits. 10. JUDGING will be done by nationally accredited Flower Show Judges and accredited Society Judges. The signature of one accredited judge must be written on every Blue Ribbon exhibit card. 11. BEST IN SHOW - Awarded to a blue ribbon winner, where designated. Do not enter these classes on entry blank. 12. SWEEPSTAKES - Awarded to the winner of the most Blue Ribbons in Horticulture or Design or both as designated in the schedule. In case of a tie, red ribbons will be counted and yellow ribbons if necessary to break the tie. Do not enter these classes on entry blank. All entries are eligible. 13. Ribbons won for BEST IN SHOW and BEST OF A SECTION or DIVISION do not count toward the SWEEPSTAKES. 14. EXHIBITS IN HORTICULTURE DIVISION must be grown by one exhibitor and have been in the possession of the exhibitor for at least three months. Exhibits from multiple gardens are not allowed except Club Day. Exhibits should be properly named (if possible) and written at top of the entry tag. Named varieties will be given precedence over unnamed ones. DWARF OR MINIATURE IS A VARIETY, NOT STUNTED STANDARD. No live plants can be dyed or artificially colored in any fashion. No shine or spray on the leaves will be permitted. No infected plants allowed or accepted. Plants should be potted in sterile potting soil - not yard dirt. Please see each show for receiving and release times. Roses will be accepted from 9:00-10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18th. Judging will start at 11:30 a.m. Multiple planting must be grown together at least 3 weeks (i.e.-dish garden). Plants should be lifted from yard to pot at least 3 weeks before show. HORTICULTURE SPECIMEN should not be treated with anything other than soap and water. Plants that are staged on a table may be elevated with a clay pot not to exceed 10. Do not decorate pots with foil, bows, etc. DOUBLE POTTING NOT ALLOWED. Styrofoam block or wood stem may be used to wedge cut specimen in upright position. Please do not display specimen with foliage below water level. Except as otherwise specified, all potted plants and hangings must be in pots not exceeding 10 inches across top. Potted plants and hangings must have a saucer under them (except Patio classes). Plants not allowed in Any other class if there is a class in the same show provided for them (i.e., Caladium in colorful foliage or Fern in foliage plant class). 256

3 15. CONTAINERS for arrangement and Horticulture must be furnished by the exhibitor. Small Horticulture specimen should be exhibited in small clear colorless glass bottles such as catsup bottles. Large Horticulture specimen may be exhibited in milk bottles or other suitable receptacles. Please attach your name and address to bottom of containers for identification. 16. No artificial Flowers or Foliage are permitted. Painted or dyed live plant material not allowed. 17. Entries in arrangement and design classes are limited to the number of entries specified in the class description. After the classes are filled, other exhibitors making entries in these classes will be placed on an alternate list. Exhibitors signing up for arrangement and design classes are expected to fulfill their commitment or to notify the Superintendent. 18. DESIGNS will be allowed 32 of space unless otherwise specified. DESIGNS must be the original work of the exhibitor, but plant material does not necessarily have to be grown by exhibitor. 19. COMPOSITIONS ARE TO FEATURE ARRANGEMENTS not SCENES. 20. ACCESSORY - A component of design; anything in a design in addition to plant material, container, base or background. 21. BACKGROUND AND BACKGROUND MATERIAL furnished by the exhibitor is optional. 22. DESIGNS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED unless there is sufficient water in the container to keep the plant material fresh for the duration of the show. 23. TABLES, TABLE COVERINGS, TRIPTYCH, PEDESTALS, AND FRAMED NICHES WILL BE FURNISHED BY THE FAIR AND WILL BE PAINTED A SOFT TAN COLOR. 24. LARGE TRIPTYCH - Background is 48 inches high, 30 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and staged on table 32 inches from the floor. 25. FRAMED NICHES - Space allowed for design is 40 inches high, 26 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and staged on table 32 inches from the floor. 26. FAIRY GARDEN - A fairy garden mounted in a container no larger than 30 in any direction. May contain fresh and/or dried plant material and accessories as needed to complete exhibit. Staged on a table 36 from the floor. 27. UTILITY TABLES - Each table may be appropriately accessorized as in home decoration. All utility tables are 18 deep, 36 wide and 32 from the floor. 28. PEDESTAL - Space allowed for design is 12 inches square on a column 36 inches high. Round mini pedestals, 6 inches diameter. 29. SHELVES - White panel with shelf is 48 wide and 48 high. 6 DIVISION 3101 CONTAINER GROWN PLANTS Tuesday, August 14 through Sunday, August 26 Amateur exhibitors may qualify under more than one Section. Open to Amateur Growers. Exhibits will be accepted between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, and may be picked up from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 27. Exhibitors are responsible for furnishing a 3 x 5 card with their name and watering instructions for each entry, to be placed by entry. Multiple planting - must be grown together at least three weeks before entry date. A tropical plant is not hardy in zone 7 or below. All plants must be in proportion to pot size. None should weigh more than 15 lbs, in a pot 12 or less and no more than 2 tall. Hanging plants must be in pots of stated size and light enough to hang from an overhead pole. ORCHID NOT ALLOWED IN CLASSES 7 and 9. DIVISION 3102 WALL HANGINGS (Botanical Arts) Celebrating Changes Tuesday, August 14 through Sunday, August 26 Open to any Amateur Exhibitor. Accessories permitted in all classes. Exhibits must be DRY, on suitable background and wired for hanging. All dried elements from nature, no live material. Bows or accessories permitted where stated. All dried designs from Class 1 through class 10 need a 3 X 5 card attached listing all plant materials. SEE PLANTS AND FLOWERS DEPARTMENT RULES. DRIED DESIGNS FOR AMATEUR DAYS Open to any amateur arranger. A grouping of objects and some plant material which tells a story or interprets a theme. Objects must be dominant and more important to interpretation than plant materials.
