3 Product Description The valance features trumpets and jabots that alternate between beautifully scalloped flat swags. Usually, trumpet and jabot valances are more formal, but we have a put a twist on a traditional valance to give it a new look. The jabots are a bit shorter and the swags are flat. This allows beautiful prints to be placed onto each swag and the short swags give a room a more casual and friendly feeling. And, this valance works much better for busy areas such as sliding doors. As expected from a custom window treatment, the valance is fully lined. Each trumpet and jabot is lined with contrast lining of your choice. Interlining is optional. The tabs can be finished with either hand-sewn grosgrain ribbon detail or tassel ties can be tied around each. 3

7 Step-by-Step Ordering Guide To order the simple trumpet and jabot valance, you must use our design tool. Our design tool lets you choose from over 1,200 fabrics and other customizable options such as sizes, trims, linings and more. To start your design, click here. You will have to go through a series of steps to design your product. If you are ready to purchase the product, you can click on the Add to Cart button. Step 1 Main Fabric: Here, you get to select the fabric for valance. Remember that the valance will be lined in our premium white lining, free of charge. 7

8 Step 2 Accent Fabric: Choose the accent fabric. This is the fabric that will be used to line the inside of the trumpet(s) and jabots. We suggest solids or small-scale fabrics. If you prefer to have a valance made in one fabric only, select the main fabric again. Step 3 Tab Top Decoration: Select either grosgrain ribbons that are sewn into the tabs or chair ties that hang loosely. Step 4 Trim: You may also opt to add trim to your custom valance. This selection is optional; if you do not wish to add trim, you can simply skip this step without making any choices. 8

9 Step 5 Width: The simple trumpet and jabot valance can be made in the following widths only: 20 to 23 inches (one swags) 24 to 26 inches (one swag) 39 to 42 inches (two swags) 43 to 45 inches (two swags) 59 to 63 inches (three swags) 65 to 68 inches (three swags) 78 to 84 inches (four swags) 86 to 90 inches (four swags) 98 to 105 inches (five swags) 107 to 112 inches (five swags) 117 to 126 inches (six swags) 137 to 147 inches (seven swags) 156 to 168 inches (eight swags) 176 to 189 inches (nine swags) 9

10 Note that this width is the finished width in other words, it is the width span of the slightly gathered, finished form as is shown in our photos (this valance hangs loosely it is not pulled completely taught). Measure the outside of your window, including any wooden frame. If the valance is meant to be installed alone, without any draperies, then adding 3 to 5 inches to the measured width will be sufficient. If you plan on installing draperies underneath and space permits, keep in mind that adding 10 to 20 inches will make the window appear larger. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BAY, BOW AND CORNER WINDOWS: For outside mounts - you will need to make sure that there is enough space between each window section. We recommend at least 9 inches of space between each window section for bay and bow windows and at least 12 inches of space between corner windows (if no draperies 10

11 are installed underneath valance). You may need to join adjacent decorative poles with a hinged elbow to save space. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ARCHED AND PALLADIUM WINDOWS: Follow measuring instructions above. Valance is installed at the base of the arch. Step 6 Lining: The valance is lined in premium white lining. In addition, you may also select felt thermal interlining to go between the two layers of fabric, which will give the valance a better shape and make it fuller and heavier. 11

12 Measuring and Installation Recommendation Measuring Instructions: This valance can be made 20 to 189 inches wide. Excluding trim, the length is approximately 20 inches at the scallops and approximately 24 inches at the jabots. Valance is installed onto a curtain pole. The valance can only be an outside mount. See above for instructions. Installation Instructions: This valance is simply hung onto a drapery pole, which can be up to 2 ½ inches thick in diameter. We recommend at least a pole that is 1 ¾ inches in diameter to achieve the desired effect as shown in our photos. 12

13 Frequently Asked Questions What is a finished width? With some of our products (such as this one), we inform our customers of the finished width rather than the actual width. The finished width is the width that is shown in our photos, the way that the valance is intended to hang, rather than the completely pulled width which the valance is not intended to assume. In other words, a finished width is the width of the valance on the window after it is properly hung as shown in our photos. What kind of accent fabric should I choose? First, you should choose a fabric that differs from the face fabric. Solids or small-scale patterns in a contrasting color should work. Take a look at some of our small checks or stripes as possible choices. We personally recommend a contrast rather than choosing the same colors 13

14 as the face fabric. Especially with this valance, accent fabrics that match too closely or are too patterned may get lost in the pleats. What thickness should the drapery pole that I purchase have? There is no set rule, but we find that most rooms do well with a 1 5/8- to 2 ½ -inch wooden drapery pole for this particular product. What kinds of trims do you suggest? I'm afraid that I will pick the wrong kind. Each product has already been configured to allow you to choose only trims that will work with it. Short trims are not offered on valances with deep, voluminous folds and similarly, big and bulky trims aren't an option when it comes to scalloped products with sharp edges and curves that need to be sewn with utmost attention to detail. Feel free to choose any trim that the product allows in its selection. And remember, colors don't have to match exactly, but they need to go together. 14

15 Why is the fabric that I like not available from the selection? Likely, it is inappropriate and would jeopardize the shape and look of the valance. You will not find such fabrics available as an option. 15
